This paper discusses the NAIRU—the non-accelerating inflation rate of unemployment. It first considers the role of the NAIRU concept in business cycle theory, arguing that this concept is implicit in any model in which monetary policy influences both inflation and unemployment. The exact value of the NAIRU is hard to measure, however, in part because it changes over time. The paper then discusses why the NAIRU changes and, in particular, why it fell in the United States during the 1990s. The most promising hypothesis is that the decline in the NAIRU is attributable to the acceleration in productivity growth.

Many macroeconomists acknowledge the importance of behavior in a money demand relationship when formulating an efficient monetary policy. Many efforts have been made to estimate the money demand in function using many different specifications. This paper discusses South African empirical literature review of money demand. It revealed that different methods have been used to analyze the demand for money in South Africa, such as the linear function approach, the partial stock adjustment model, and the buffer stock disequilibrium money model. This study also discovered that few studies are done using co-integration and error correction methods and not all of these studies show that the money demand function in South Africa is stable. Implication for theory and practice, as well as area of future research, are also discussed in the study.

The problem of countercyclical fiscal and monetary regulation has become very ur- gent in the last two decades. This article is devoted to the analysis and assessment of countercyclical fiscal and monetary policy from the point of view of the fundamental basis, as well as its practical application. The subject of this research is countercycli- cal fiscal and monetary policy from the point of view of its effectiveness in the con- text of the economic crisis. The methodological basis of the study is an overview of theoretical and practical models of countercyclical fiscal and monetary policy known in the scientific literature. The key objective of the study was to attempt to identify and evaluate countercyclical fiscal and monetary policies from the point of view of theory and practice. The result of the study was the conclusion that in a crisis, coun- tercyclical fiscal and monetary policy leads to ambiguous results, but on the whole, it is the most optimal for leveling the consequences of the crisis.
