Form D of the Activity Vector Analysis (AVA) was administered to 131 Senegalese students in French. They were requested to give their perceptions of the former poet-president of Senegal L. S. Senghor. The AVA profile (5915) about which the public images clustered very heavily ( N = 93) is identical to that which previously represented the ideal perception of the President of the United States in 1964 but not the current one.

104 students (52 males and 52 females) of an Iranian University were administered a Persian language form of the Activity Vector Analysis. They were asked to give their perceptions of Mr. Hovayda, the Prime Minister of Iran, and the ideal self. Findings were that, while the distributions of these AVA Profiles were quite widely dispersed, two distinct clusters were, nevertheless, identified. The cluster for the perception of Mr. Hovayda and that for the ideal self correlated —.04, suggesting statistical independence of the over-all perceptions of the Prime Minister and the ideal self-concepts of Iranian students. A male-female breakdown, however, showed there was a tendency for the Iranian males to be more congruent (median r = .34) in their perceptions of Mr. Hovayda and the ideal self and for the females to be less congruent (median r = —.04).

The Activity Vector Analysis was administered to 31 Ss under the instruction to select those words which they felt described the kind of person the President of the United States should be. A significant cluster which included 29 of the 31 Ss was noted. The personality profiles located within the cluster correlated, on the average, +.93 with the group centroid. They are generally descriptive of a person who is socially outgoing; who displays a genuine interest in people; who is enthusiastic, but diplomatic in his social contacts; who is mentally and physically alert; and who exercises good moral judgment.

The Activity Vector Analysis was administered to 31 Ss matched for age and sex to a prior sample under the instructions to select those words which they felt described the kind of person the President of the United States should be. Comparing the significant resulting cluster with one discovered 9 yr. previously showed that there has been slight change in the stereotyped perception of the Ideal President in that the new ideal is generally less opinionated and decisive as well as more receptive and appreciative of another person's point of view than was previously found.

Form D of the Activity Vector Analysis (AVA) was administered to 153 Senegalese students in French. They were requested to give their perceptions of the president of Senegal Abdou Diouf and of the president of Libya Gaddafi. The AVA profiles (4943 for Diouf and 6617 for Gaddafi) about which the public images clustered very heavily ( N = 86 for Diouf and N = 135 for Gaddafi) suggest personalities perceived as substantially different from one another.

The Activity Vector Analysis was administered to 97 junior college students, with instructions to check those words which they felt were descriptive of Jimmy Carter. These same students were again asked to check those words which they felt were descriptive of the Ideal Self or Perfect Person. The data yielded two distinct clusters: (1) around AVA Pattern 6617 for Carter, which correlates .69 with the “Business Executive” profile, and (2) around AVA Pattern 2972 for the Ideal Self, which correlates .80 with the “Perfect Person” profile. The correlation between the Carter profile and the Ideal Self profile is — .45, suggesting lack of congruence between the two perceptions.
