Abstract Lean practices are implemented in manufacturing enterprises to find hidden waste and attain continuous improvement. Various enterprises have experienced benefits owing to the Lean implementation. Following the use of appropriate lean instruments and techniques, there are many factors that affect successful lean implementation process. Researchers have identified a large number of these success factors to implementation of Lean. Understanding these enablers and the interactions between them can be crucial to the success of lean implementation. Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) is one of the established methodologies to bring forward the interrelationships among parameters of an issue or a problem. The purpose of this paper is to create the hierarchy of the various success factors to Lean Implementation according to their importance using the approach of ISM to facilitate Small and Medium enterprises (SMEs) across India.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify and rank different dimensions of strategic orientation and firm’s performance using the approach of interpretive structural modeling. Design/methodology/approach The study uses interpretative structural modeling and the MICMAC technique to establish a hierarchical relationship among different dimensions of entrepreneurial orientation and manufacturing performance of Indian SMEs. Findings The final outcome of interpretative structural modeling and the MICMAC analysis revealed a relationship between the variables under study along with the categorization of all in two different categories, depending upon their driving power and dependency, which decision-makers can also use while devising their strategy to improve performance. Originality/value To date, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, no significant contribution about such interrelationship was reported; therefore, this study is one of its types to fill this gap.

Green process innovation is innovating manufacturing technology, process or organization management in an environment-friendly, energy-efficient and low-carbon way. 10 main factors that affect the successful implementation of green process innovation in manufacturing enterprises were categorized into TOE framework. Interrelationships of those critical success factors were structured by interpretive structural modeling, the results of which illustrated the influential structure for implementing green process innovation successfully, and could provide a systematic structure for managers and researchers that commit to the development of green process innovation.

The purpose of this paper is to provide a practical approach of prioritizing the most critical success factors influencing the supply chain performance in SMEs by using an interpretive structural modeling (ISM) approach. The MICMAC analysis has been also considered for identifying the factors having a high influential power. Our findings show that, on the one hand, the production system, flexibility, communication and planning tools, process strategy, environmental uncertainty and innovation are the major factors influencing the supply chain performance. On the other hand, relationships with customers and suppliers, marketing and quality are seen as unfavorable outcomes to the supply chain managers and practitioners. These findings may help the policy makers, managers, and practitioners in formulating the strategies and policies for implementation of effectiveness supply chain.

Companies have been implementing Lean production to improve their business performances; nevertheless many of them have experienced difficulties in applying and then encountering failure. Researchers have identified a large number of barriers to Lean implementation. Understanding the barriers and interactions between them is critical to reach the success of lean. Using the “Interpretive Structural Modeling” (ISM) to analyse the interdependence and interaction between barriers, this study aims to help Vietnamese manufacturer gain deeper understanding in terms of barriers, from which managers can help prioritise and manage them.

This paper investigates the barriers that hinder the implementation of lean manufacturing in wood and furniture industries as the adoption of this philosophy in such industries is not promising especially in emerging economies. To this end, a comprehensive review of the literature was performed to identify the barriers and develop a conceptual model. Next, structural equation modeling is employed to examine the model using the collected data from 131 wood and furniture companies. The findings revealed a synergetic effect between three key factors—culture and human attitude, knowledge, and resources—which play a crucial role in implementing lean. The analyses indicated the reasons of companies refused or not ready to implement lean on knowledge and culture and human attitudinal issues, particularly in companies that have limited resources. It is believed that resource issues are an obstacle to lean implementation, but not as important as knowledge and culture and human attitudinal issues. Sufficient knowledge is needed to deploy lean practices as well as changes in culture and human attitude. Investigating the relationships between these three key barriers is a contribution that this study intends to become a forward step for promoting lean manufacturing among under-studied industries. This paper also proposes that through adopting the activities for lean implementation, small and medium enterprises can experience and quantify the positive impacts of lean practices. Government agencies, universities, and professional bodies can support such enterprises in this transition through targeted interventions that address the barriers presented.

Entrepreneurship plays an important role in the modern global economy; the share of products of small and medium enterprises in the gross product and exports not only of the developed but also of developing countries is growing. Innovation processes cover all sectors of the economy, and more and more people are involved in entrepreneurial activity, which contributes to the penetration of entrepreneurial thinking and business values in all areas of the socioeconomic life of society. The Institute of Entrepreneurship plays an increasingly prominent role in the institutional environment of socio-economic systems. This actualizes the problem of studying the relationship of the institution of entrepreneurship with the institutions of law, culture, management. This requires a methodology that allows you to explore the impact on the institute of entrepreneurship not only economic, but also non-economic factors. The methodology of the “old” institutionalism possesses such a tool, it is structural modeling (pattern modeling), which allows to explore the diversity of interrelationships of the institution of entrepreneurship with other components of the institutional and economic environment. The article explored the features of the development of the institution of entrepreneurship in Russia, established the relationship between the institution of entrepreneurship, values, motives and incentives for entrepreneurial activity, built a structural model of the institution of entrepreneurship based on the methodology of the old institutionalism (pattern modeling). The structural model of the institution of entrepreneurship reveals the relationship between the institution of entrepreneurship, the values of entrepreneurial activity, its motives and incentives; as well as the relationship between the institution of entrepreneurship with the institutions of governance, cultural and religious institutions, legal institutions and society.
