Abstract A model of REM-2-type chamber was modeled with MCNPX code to study the dose-response to monoenergetic neutrons in wide energy range from thermal to 20 MeV for various compositions of gas in the chamber. The energy dependence of the total dose absorbed in the filling gas was compared with the energy dependence of ambient absorbed dose D*(10) and with experimental data. The results of the studies will be useful for designing new, improved generation of recombination chambers.

Abstract The phenomenological strengths of the real part of the optical potential, obtained from elastic scattering data analyses within the optical model approach, present significant energy-dependence. This behavior has been associated to the intrinsic energy-dependence of the effective nucleon-nucleon interaction. However, in earlier works, we proposed that at least part of this dependence can arise from the effect of couplings to inelastic states of the nuclei. In order to deepen this study, in this paper we present extensive data analyses for the elastic scattering and inelastic excitation of 111 states of 208Pb, for the 4He + 208Pb system in a wide energy range. With the purpose of comparison, the theoretical cross sections are obtained in different approaches for the imaginary part of the potential, and within both contexts: optical model (distorted wave Born approximation) and coupled-channel calculations.

Abstract Novel NaIL detector (5 × 6 inch) was investigated for its neutron detection in wide energy range. It has been found that the detector together with its known ability to detect the γ-radiation it also allows to distinguish neutron signals in three quasi-independent ways. It is sensitive to neutron fluxes on a level down to 10-3 cm-2 s-1. In this work intrinsic α-background and neutron detection sensitivity for the NaIL detector were obtained. Experimental data was compared with results of Geant4 Monte Carlo (MC).

The 10B(p,α0)7Be reaction has been studied by applying the Trojan Horse method to the 2H(10B,α0 7Be)n reaction. The bare-nucleus astrophysical S(E)-factor in absolute units was extracted in a wide energy range, from 2.2 MeV to 3 keV and normalized to the direct experimental data, thus allowing determination of the electron screening potential for which a value of Ue=391±74 eV was obtained.

A new ultrahigh-energy-resolution and wide-energy-range soft X-ray beamline has been designed and is under construction at the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility. The beamline has two branches: one dedicated to angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and the other to photoelectron emission microscopy (PEEM). The two branches share the same plane-grating monochromator, which is equipped with four variable-line-spacing gratings and covers the 20–2000 eV energy range. Two elliptically polarized undulators are employed to provide photons with variable polarization, linear in every inclination and circular. The expected energy resolution is approximately 10 meV at 1000 eV with a flux of more than 3 × 1010 photons s−1at the ARPES sample positions. The refocusing of both branches is based on Kirkpatrick–Baez pairs. The expected spot sizes when using a 10 µm exit slit are 15 µm × 5 µm (horizontal × vertical FWHM) at the ARPES station and 10 µm × 5 µm (horizontal × vertical FWHM) at the PEEM station. The use of plane optical elements upstream of the exit slit, a variable-line-spacing grating and a pre-mirror in the monochromator that allows the influence of the thermal deformation to be eliminated are essential for achieving the ultrahigh-energy resolution.

The first experimental applications of the undulator gap-scan technique in X-ray absorption spectroscopy are reported. The key advantage of this method is that during EXAFS scans the undulator is permanently tuned to the maximum of its emission peak in order to maximize the photon statistics. In X-MCD or spin-polarized EXAFS studies with a helical undulator of the Helios type, the polarization rate can also be kept almost constant over a wide energy range.

The distribution of energy release (linear energy loss) over depth was calculated when bombarded with deuterium atoms of a tungsten target in a wide energy range of incident particles of 100 eV - 10 MeV. It is shown that in the energy range up to 100 keV, the maximum energy release, contrary to the prevailing ideas, is near the surface of a solid. At energies above 100 keV, the nature of the distribution changes and the Bragg maximum appears near the point where the particle stops. The distribution of the energy release over depth in tungsten is obtained for conditions typical of the ITER tokamak reactor, which makes it possible to estimate the wall heating during bombardment by plasma atoms.
