AbstractFour transition metal(II) complexes with podophyllic acid hydrazide (HL) were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, complexometric titration, thermal analysis, conductivity, IR, and 1H NMR. The complexes have the general formula ML2 · nH2O, where M = Zn, Cu, Co, and Ni, n = 2 or 0. Anti-tumor activities of podophyllotoxin, HL, ZnL2 · 2H2O, and NiL2 were tested by both the MTT and the SRB method. The results show that the activities of the complexes against the tumor cells tested are superior to HL and the anti-tumor activity of NiL2 is even similar to that of podophyllotoxin.

AbstractA new 4-[1-(4-methylphenylsulfonyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]but-3-en-2-one thiosemicarbazone (HL) was synthesized derived from 4-[1-(4-methylphenylsulfonyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]but-3-en-2-one. Four transition metal(II) complexes of HL have been prepared. Elemental analysis, molar conductivity, IR, UV, 1H NMR spectra, and TG-DTA have been used to characterize these complexes. The complexes have the general formula ML2, where M = Zn, Cu, Co, and Ni. The ligand and its complexes have been studied for their possible biological activity including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antitumour activity in vitro.

The synthesis and structural characterization of a square-planar copper(II) complex with pyridoxal S-methylisothiosemicarbazone (PLITSC) of the formula [Cu(PLITSC?H)H2O]Br?H2O (1) as the first Cu(II) complex with monoanionic form of this ligand were described. Complex 1 together with two previously synthesized complexes [Cu(PLITSC)Br2] (2) and [Cu(PLITSC)Br(MeOH)]Br (3) were characterized by elemental analysis, IR and electronic spectra and also by the methods of thermal analysis, conductometry and magnetochemistry.

Anew series of dichloro/dinitrato (2,6,9,13,18-pentaazacbicyclo [12.3.1]octadeca -1(18),14,16-triene) metal(II) [MLX2](M = Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II); X = Cl or NO3) and (2,6,9,13,18-pentaazacyclo[12.3.1]octadeca-1(18),14,16-triene) copper(II) dichloride/dinitrate [CuL]X2 (X = Cl or NO3) have been synthesized by the template condensation reaction of 2,6-diaminopyridine with 1,2-diaminoethane and 1,3-dibromopropane. The complexes were studied by elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements. Various spectroscopic techniques, viz. IR, 1H-NMR, EPR, UV/Vis, were used to establish their structures. Except for the complexes of copper(II), which are square planar, all other complexes have octahedral structures.

A series of hiteherto unreported solid salts of hexa-coordinated anions of the general formula [(Rf)2SbCl3X]- , where Rf = C6F5 ; L = Cl and X = Cl, Br, I, N3, NCS and SeCN have been prepared in the presence of tetraorgano ammonium, phosphonium, arsonium and stibonium counter ions. The complexes have been formulated and characterised on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductances, molecular weights and solid state IR, solution state 1H NMR and 19F NMR spectral data. The physico-chemical data are consistent with six-coordinate antimony complexes.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/ijasbt.v1i3.8304 Int J Appl Sci Biotechnol, Vol. 1(3) 2013 : 90-96

The complexes of Co(ll), Ni(ll), Cu(ll) and Zn(ll) with isatin Schiff bases were synthetised and their structures established by using elemental analysis, as well as by measuring the molar conductivity, AA, FTIR, UV/VIS and 1H NMR and applying TG analysis.Isatin Schiff bases show different antimicrobial activity due to the different nature of the carbonyl and amino components as well as its substituent. The complexes have an enhanced activity compared to the ligands due to the transition metal involved in the coordination. It is also evident that the complexes have different antimicrobial activity, which is related to the nature and typeof coordinated metal.

A series of homo binuclear complexs of the type [M2(L/L’)(NO3)n(H2O)2], [where M=UO22+, Th4+, ZrO2+] and [(VO)2(L/L’)(SO4)(H2O)], L= 4, 17-di(o-hydroxyphenyl)-5,6,9,12,15,16-hexaaza-7,8,13,14-tetraphenyl heptadec-4, 6, 8, 12, 14, 16-hexene or L’= 10:11-benzo-4, 17-di(o-hydroxyphenyl)-5,6,9,12,15,16-hexaaza-7,8,13,14-tetraphenyl heptadec-4, 6, 8, 12, 14, 16-hexene, n=2 for UO22+, ZrO2+  n=6 for Th4+, have been synthesized in template method from ethylenediamine/orthophenylene diamine, benzil monohydrazone and salicyldehyde and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, thermal analysis, molar conductivity, magnetic moment, electronic, infrared, 1H-NMR studies.  The results indicate that the VO(IV) ion is penta co-ordinated yielding paramagnetic complexes; UO2(VI), ZrO(IV) ions are hexa co-ordinated where as Th(IV) ion is octa co-ordinated yielding diamagnetic complexes of above composition.

The paper reports the conclusions about the structure of jive new romp/exes of Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II), and Cd(II) with the heterocyclic ligand, 5-hydroxy-6-mercapto- benzo[a] phenazine (H2L). These were obtained by elemental analysis, IR, UV-VIS and EPR spectral analysis, conductivity and magnetic susceptibility measurements, and thermal analysis. Bacteriological studies revealed that the ligand and the complexes possess moderate antimicrobial activity.
