A series of hiteherto unreported solid salts of hexa-coordinated anions of the general formula [(Rf)2SbCl3X]- , where Rf = C6F5 ; L = Cl and X = Cl, Br, I, N3, NCS and SeCN have been prepared in the presence of tetraorgano ammonium, phosphonium, arsonium and stibonium counter ions. The complexes have been formulated and characterised on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductances, molecular weights and solid state IR, solution state 1H NMR and 19F NMR spectral data. The physico-chemical data are consistent with six-coordinate antimony complexes.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/ijasbt.v1i3.8304 Int J Appl Sci Biotechnol, Vol. 1(3) 2013 : 90-96

In this study a cobalt(II) complex of quercetin was synthetized in the solid state with the general formula Co(C15H9O7)2∙2H2O. The FT-IR, elemental analysis, and UV/Vis methods were used to study the composition of the complex in a solid state and in a water solution. The anti-/pro-oxidant activity of quercetin and the Co(II) complex was studied by means of spectrophotometric DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl), FRAP (ferric reducing antioxidant activity) and Trolox oxidation assays. The cytotoxicity of quercetin and Co(II)-quercetin complex in HaCat cell lines was then established.

The ring opening of -valerolactone (GVL) with amine compounds was reported as a promising molecular engineering tool to synthesize precursors for new bio-based polymers such as polyurethanes (PUs). Experimental work on the synthesis of polymers based on GVL/1,2-ethanolamine and GVL/1,2-diaminoethane adducts, and di-isocyanates (1,4-phenylene-di-isocyanate (PDI) 2,4-toluene-di-isocyanate (TDI) and hexamethylene-di-isocyanate (HDI)) is described. The polymers were characterized by FTIR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, elemental analysis and GPC. The best polymerization results were obtained using TEA as the catalyst, DMA as the solvent and a temperature of 140°C for the reaction of the GVL/1,2-aminoethanol adduct with TDI. A polymer with a molecular weight (Mw) of 156 KDalton was produced in 97% yield.

Three new pyridine–cyclopalladated ferrocenylimine complexes 2a–c have been easily prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, ESI-MS, 1H NMR, and IR spectra. Their detailed structures are determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis. Palladacycle 2a is found to be a cis complex in the solid state, while 2b and 2c are trans complexes. These complexes were found to be efficient for the Suzuki reaction of aryl bromides with phenylboronic acid. Typically, using 0.2 mol% of 2c in the presence of 1.5 equivalents of K2CO3 as base in toluene at 100°C provided the coupled products in good to excellent yields.

Mucilage was isolated from the seeds of Diospyros melonoxylonRoxb., a plant growing naturally in the forests of India. Various physico-chemical methods like particle analysis, scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, differential thermal analysis, thermogravimetry analysis, molecular weight by gel permeation chromatography, rheometry, elemental analysis, x-ray diffraction spectrometry, zeta potential, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 1D(1H and 13C) (NMR) have been employed to characterize this gum in the present study. Particle analyses suggest that mucilage had particle size in nanometer. SEM analysis suggested that the mucilage had irregular particle size. The glass transition temperature of the gum observed was 78 °C and 74 °C by DSC and DTA respectively. The Thermogravimetry analysis suggested that mucilage had good thermal stability with two stage decomposition. The molecular weight of mucilage was determined to be 8760, by gel permeation chromatography, while the viscosity of mucilage was observed to be 219.1 cP. The XRD pattern of the mucilage indicated a complete amorphous nature. Elemental analysis of the gum revealed specific contents of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and sulfur. The major functional groups identified from FT-IR spectrum include 3441 cm-1 (-OH), 1632 cm-1 (-COO-), 1414 cm-1 (-COO-) and 1219 cm-1 (-CH3CO). Analysis of mucilage by paper chromatography and 1D NMR indicated the presence of sugars.

Abstract Some bis(η5-methylcyclopentadienyl) N-aryl-dithiocarbamato chloro titanium(IV) compounds of the general formula η5-(Mecp)2Ti(S2CNRH)Cl (R = phenyl; o-, m- and p-tolyl; p-methoxy phenyl; o- and p-ethoxy phenyl; o-, m- and p-chlorophenyl; p-bromophenyl and p-iodophenyl groups) have been prepared by the reaction of bis(η5-methylcyclopentadienyl) titanium(IV) dichloride with ammonium N-aryl-dithiocarbamates. A study of the molecular weight, conductance, infrared and electronic spectra, and magnetic susceptibility in addition to elemental analysis has been carried out to throw some light on the probable structure of these derivatives

AbstractA new 4-[1-(4-methylphenylsulfonyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]but-3-en-2-one thiosemicarbazone (HL) was synthesized derived from 4-[1-(4-methylphenylsulfonyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]but-3-en-2-one. Four transition metal(II) complexes of HL have been prepared. Elemental analysis, molar conductivity, IR, UV, 1H NMR spectra, and TG-DTA have been used to characterize these complexes. The complexes have the general formula ML2, where M = Zn, Cu, Co, and Ni. The ligand and its complexes have been studied for their possible biological activity including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antitumour activity in vitro.

AbstractFour transition metal(II) complexes with podophyllic acid hydrazide (HL) were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, complexometric titration, thermal analysis, conductivity, IR, and 1H NMR. The complexes have the general formula ML2 · nH2O, where M = Zn, Cu, Co, and Ni, n = 2 or 0. Anti-tumor activities of podophyllotoxin, HL, ZnL2 · 2H2O, and NiL2 were tested by both the MTT and the SRB method. The results show that the activities of the complexes against the tumor cells tested are superior to HL and the anti-tumor activity of NiL2 is even similar to that of podophyllotoxin.
