Pombalia Vand. (Violaceae) is represented in the Cerrado by a well-supported monophyletic group of species known as the Pombalia lanata complex, characterised by some unique vegetative and reproductive features within the genus. This group includes six species – Pombalia cristalina, P. insignis, P. lanata, P. poaya, P. strigoides and P. velutina – the first two of which are new to science. Pombalia lanata shows the widest geographical distribution throughout the Central Brazilian Plateau and the Espinhaço Range in Minas Gerais state, with a disjunction in Misiones Province, Argentina. Because most species in this group are narrow endemics, we evaluated the conservation status of all taxa. An identification key for the species, descriptions, illustrations, maps of geographical distribution and nomenclatural notes are also provided.

The Serra Geral in Licínio de Almeida municipality, Bahia, Brazil, is a transitional area between the “Cerrado” and “Caatinga” domains constituting an ecological corridor that links the northern and southern portions of the Espinhaço Range. The taxonomic treatment of Melastomataceae in this area revealed two new species of Microlicia. Descriptions of the species are provided, including detailed illustrations, and statements of geographical distribution, habitat and IUCN conservation status.

Two species of Glandularia from Rio Grande do Sul Brazilian state are described, G. rupestris V. Thode & Bordignon and G. sessilifolia V. Thode & Bordignon. Detailed morphological descriptions, geographical distribution, evaluation of their IUCN conservation status and photographs are presented. Comparison tables with morphologically similar species occurring in Rio Grande do Sul and an identification key to the species occurring in Brazil are also provided.

We review the family Histriobdellidae and provide species descriptions and notes on geographical distribution based on data from the literature. The morphological structures used in the systematics of this family are defined. A new genus, Dayus, is proposed and two new species from Brazil, Stratiodrilus robustus and S. circensis, are described.

Two new species, Merostachys ramosa and M. ximenae, from the Brazilian Atlantic forest are here described and illustrated. The species are apparently endemic to Minas Gerais state, with M. ramosa being restricted to the Parque Estadual da Serra do Brigadeiro. The conservation status of each species is examined. A key to all taxa of Merostachys present in eastern Minas Gerais and comments about the species are provided.

Homollea Arènes (Rubiaceae, subfamily Ixoroideae, tribe Pavetteae) is a genus of shrubs and small trees endemic to western and northern Madagascar. The genus comprises five species occurring in dry deciduous forest, often in limestone areas. The five species are narrow endemics and their conservation status is either Endangered (4 species) or Critically Endangered (1 species). Homollea is characterized by few-flowered, pseudo-axillary, pedunculate inflorescences, well-developed calyces with the lobes much longer than the tube, laterally flattened seeds with a shallow, elongated to linear hilum and entire endosperm, ovules arising from the upper margin of the placenta, and, pollen grains with supratectal elements in the shape of microgemmae. Until now, three species were known and their descriptions are amended. Two further species, H. furtiva De Block sp. nov. and H. septentrionalis De Block sp. nov., are described as new for science. The five species are dealt with in detail: descriptions, distribution maps, conservation assessments, illustrations, lists of exsiccatae and an identification key are given.

Abstract Currently, little information is available about the orchid flora in the “Iron Gates” Nature Park, especially due to the lack of the data regarding the detailed geographical distribution and the actual conservation status of species and populations. According to the data provided by the specialist literature for the south-west of Romania, 39 species of orchids are found in this area, of which 29 are in the Danube Gorge (known as Clisura Dunării ‒ “Iron Gates” Nature Park). The field researches regarding the Orchidaceae L. family in the “Iron Gates” Nature Park area have been conducted over a period covering 15 years, from 1996 to 2011. During research conducted in the field I acknowledged the presence of 23 orchid species in the Danube Gorge area and ascertained the presence of new orchid species in the research area: two new species in the Danube Gorge area (“Iron Gates” Nature Park): Epipactis purpurata Sm. and Listera ovata (L.) R. Br.

In this paper, the monophyly of the genus Thoreyella Spinola was tested, and a hypothesis of relationships among its species is proposed. Four known species of Thoreyella and two new species, as well as species of three other genera of Procleticini (Neoderoploa Pennington, Lobepomis Berg, and Procleticus Berg), were treated as the ingroup. The new species of Thoreyella will be published elsewhere. Two species of Dendrocoris were used for outgroup comparison. A cladistic analysis of 38 morphological characters supported a hypothesis of common ancestry for Thoreyella and the three genera of Procleticini included in the ingroup. The results also showed Thoreyella as a monophyletic taxon, and its sister group relationship with the monophyletic group including Neoderoploa, Lobepomis, and Procleticus. The geographical distribution of these taxa is discussed.

Abstract—Solanum adamantium is described from Serra de Grão Mogol, located in the Espinhaço range, in northern Minas Gerais State, Brazil. The new species is ecologically and morphologically similar to the prickly species S. buddleiifolium and S. thomasiifolium, from which it differs in a series of vegetative and reproductive characters. We discuss the morphological similarities and differences among these species, as well as certain aspects of the new taxon’s ecology and geographic distribution. Images of diagnostic characters, a map of geographical distribution, a preliminary conservation assessment, and full specimen citations are provided.

Arthrocereus grandiflorus sp. nov. is described on the basis of field surveys, macro- and micromorphological (pollen grains) data, and analysis of literature. The new species is endemic to the Brazilian Cerrado and its two subpopulations were found in the municipality of Diamantina, Minas Gerais State. Comments on its morphological affinities with related taxa, geographical distribution, phenology, habitat, conservation status, and original photographs of living specimens are provided. In terms of conservation, it was assessed according to IUCN criteria as Critically Endangered (CR).

Impatiens saulierea and I. josephia, two new species, are described from the Western Ghats, India. The former is collected from Kakkayam, Kozhikode and the latter from Idukki, Kerala. A detailed description of both taxa along with diagnostic characters between allied species, conservation status, pollen morphology and colour photographs are provided.
