The Serra Geral in Licínio de Almeida municipality, Bahia, Brazil, is a transitional area between the “Cerrado” and “Caatinga” domains constituting an ecological corridor that links the northern and southern portions of the Espinhaço Range. The taxonomic treatment of Melastomataceae in this area revealed two new species of Microlicia. Descriptions of the species are provided, including detailed illustrations, and statements of geographical distribution, habitat and IUCN conservation status.

Pombalia Vand. (Violaceae) is represented in the Cerrado by a well-supported monophyletic group of species known as the Pombalia lanata complex, characterised by some unique vegetative and reproductive features within the genus. This group includes six species – Pombalia cristalina, P. insignis, P. lanata, P. poaya, P. strigoides and P. velutina – the first two of which are new to science. Pombalia lanata shows the widest geographical distribution throughout the Central Brazilian Plateau and the Espinhaço Range in Minas Gerais state, with a disjunction in Misiones Province, Argentina. Because most species in this group are narrow endemics, we evaluated the conservation status of all taxa. An identification key for the species, descriptions, illustrations, maps of geographical distribution and nomenclatural notes are also provided.

Two species of Glandularia from Rio Grande do Sul Brazilian state are described, G. rupestris V. Thode & Bordignon and G. sessilifolia V. Thode & Bordignon. Detailed morphological descriptions, geographical distribution, evaluation of their IUCN conservation status and photographs are presented. Comparison tables with morphologically similar species occurring in Rio Grande do Sul and an identification key to the species occurring in Brazil are also provided.

During the taxonomic treatment of Chamaecrista sect. Absus ser. Rigidulae as the object of the master’s dissertation of the first author, the analyses of our own collections and specimens from several Brazilian herbaria led us to establish a new species, Chamaecrista sparsifolia, and propose a new status and a new combination for Chamaecrista chaetostegia var. obolaria. The geographical distribution, phenology, conservation status, as well as images and illustrations of both taxa are given.

Abstract Currently, little information is available about the orchid flora in the “Iron Gates” Nature Park, especially due to the lack of the data regarding the detailed geographical distribution and the actual conservation status of species and populations. According to the data provided by the specialist literature for the south-west of Romania, 39 species of orchids are found in this area, of which 29 are in the Danube Gorge (known as Clisura Dunării ‒ “Iron Gates” Nature Park). The field researches regarding the Orchidaceae L. family in the “Iron Gates” Nature Park area have been conducted over a period covering 15 years, from 1996 to 2011. During research conducted in the field I acknowledged the presence of 23 orchid species in the Danube Gorge area and ascertained the presence of new orchid species in the research area: two new species in the Danube Gorge area (“Iron Gates” Nature Park): Epipactis purpurata Sm. and Listera ovata (L.) R. Br.

Two Eugenia species are described herein as result of the elaboration of a taxonomic treatment of Myrtaceae for the flora of Restinga vegetation from Espírito Santo, in the Brazilian Atlantic forest. Detailed description, illustration, distribution and evaluation of their IUCN conservation status of Eugenia itaunensis and Eugenia kuekii are presented. Eugenia itaunensis is related to E. copacabanensis from which differs by larger leaves with base obtuse, rounded, cordate or subcordate, 10–18 pairs of secondary veins and greater flowers with calyx lobes in two unequal pairs in size. Eugenia kuekii is morphologically similar to Eugenia widgrenii but differs by leaves with obtuse base, 6–9 pairs of secondary veins, fasciculiform inflorescence with 1–2 pairs of flowers, and yellowish fruits. Eugenia kuekii is also related to Eugenia pruinosa but can be distinguished by its leaves with base obtuse or rounded and calyx lobes larger.

Impatiens saulierea and I. josephia, two new species, are described from the Western Ghats, India. The former is collected from Kakkayam, Kozhikode and the latter from Idukki, Kerala. A detailed description of both taxa along with diagnostic characters between allied species, conservation status, pollen morphology and colour photographs are provided.

Pimpinella ibradiensis, an unusual new species found in the Toka Yayla (İbradı, Antalya) in southern Anatolia, is described and illustrated. Site conditions, synecology and conservation status of P. ibradiensis are considered. In light of the comparison with the other closely related four species, namely P. nephrophylla, P. flabellifolia, P. sintenisii and P. paucidentata, its similarity within the genus are discussed. P. ibradiensis is easly distinguished from its relatives by its white petals, presence of bracts and bracteoles, larger fruits (4–5.5 × 1–2 mm), and having serrulate basal leaves with 60–95 strongly cartilaginous teeth along margins. The geographical distribution of P. ibradiensis and closely related species are mapped and the identification key of those species is updated.

Stachys ahmet-savranii Doğu & Bağcı sp. nov. (Lamiaceae) from the Niğde (C5 Niğde, Turkey) is described and illustrated. It exhibits general features of the section Infrarosularis. It is closely related to Stachys citrina Boiss. & Heldr. but differs by its slender and unbranched stem; leaves structure; floral leaves equalling or longer than verticillasters; verticillester with 8 - 12 flowered and corolla 10 - 18 mm; Bracteoles reaching nearly middle of calyx tube. Diagnostic morphological characters are discussed. The geographical distribution of the new species is mapped. Notes are also presented on its ecology, biogeography and conservation status. In this study, Fritillaria arsusiana (Liliaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species from Hatay province in southern Anatolia, Turkey. It is related to F. amana and F. hermonis by habitus features and broadly campanulate flowers, but differs mainly by its bulb shape and size, smaller leaf and flower features, and flower colour. It has also been morphologically compared with F. wendelboi, F. pinardii, and F. latakiensis. The detailed description, diagnostic characters, original photographs, geographical distribution, habitat and phenology, etymology, conservation status, and identification key of the new and the related species are presented in this study. IUCN conservation status of F. arsusiana is suggested as Critically Endangered (CR).

A new species, Stachys semsurensis (sect. Infrarosularis), is described and illustrated from Adıyaman province, Turkey. From the morphological point of view, it appears to be similar to Stachys cataonica, but it differs in several morphological features including densely covered with short stalked to subsessile glandular hairs in flowering stems, verticillasters congested into ± globose head, calyx teeth lanceolate-subulate, corolla white, tube exserted and nutlets obovoid, greyish-brown, reticulate. A comprehensive description of the new species is provided, including detailed photographs, geographical distribution map, habitat structure and ecology, vernacular name and IUCN conservation status.
