AbstractThis paper discusses the uses and applications of the Pedagogy of Experience Complexity for Smart Learning (PECSL), a four-tier model of considerations for the design and development of smart learning activities. Using existing mobile apps and relevant activities as illustrative examples, the PECSL is applied to indicate concepts and mechanisms by which useful pedagogical considerations can work alongside user-centred design principles for the design and development of smart learning in urban hyper-localities. Practical application of the model is discussed using real world examples of activities as a basis to demonstrate the potential for manifold opportunities to learn, and plan for experience complexity in a smart learning activity. Case study approaches reflect on aspects of the PECSL in how it might be a useful and pragmatic guide to some of the issues faced when designing digital citizen learning activities in complex urban environments.

<p>The focus of this research is to describe the strategy of adversity quotient for the management of the Community Learning Activity Center (PKBM) to develop innovations in turning barriers into opportunities for non-formal education programs. Qualitative research with this type of case study was carried out at PKBM Mentari, using structured interviews as the primary data collection method, in order to obtain primary data and document matrix methods to obtain secondary data. the data were analyzed using interactive techniques belonging to Miles and Huberman with the stages of data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing. The results of this study are the adversity quotient strategy that generally implemented by PKBM is very good, this can be seen from the indicators including: 1) Organizing learning activities flexibly in terms of time, so that it does not interfere with the daily activities of the community; 2) Provide learning at affordable costs so as not to burden the community in participating in learning; 3) Making the community the main partner in the continuation of teaching and learning activities at PKBM and 4) Building synergies with local village officials. The relatively short research time is the main limitation in compiling this study, so that it only maximizes the statements of the main informants. </p><p><strong> </strong></p>

ABSTRAKSI: Sebagai LPTK (Lembaga Pendidikan Tenaga Kependidikan), UPI (Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia) perlu melakukan suatu kajian untuk merancang sistem pengelolaan keuangan perguruan tinggi berbasis aktivitas dengan metode ABC (Activity-Based Costing), yang diharapkan akan dapat mengukur secara lebih rinci aktivitas-aktivitas utama dan pendukung dalam penyelenggaraan pendidikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa seluruh Fakultas yang ada di lingkungan UPI menyatakan kesiapan untuk menerapkan sistem ABC. Berdasarkan FGD (Focus Group Discussion), terdapat beberapa kendala yang dihadapi untuk menerapkan sistem ABC di UPI di Bandung, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. Secara keseluruhan diperoleh hasil bahwa sistem ABC dapat diterapkan di UPI selama ada niat dan kerjasama yang baik dari Kementerian Pendidikan dan pimpinan Universitas.KATA KUNCI: Biaya Pendidikan Berbasis Kegiatan; Uang Kuliah Tunggal; Mutu Pendidikan; Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia; Niat dan Kerjasama yang Baik. ABSTRACT: “The Implementation of Activity-Based Costing to Improve the Quality of Education in Higher Education Institutions: A Case Study of Indonesia University of Education”. As an institute of teacher training and education, UPI (Indonesia University of Education) needs to conduct a study on designing college financial management systems based on activity through the method of ABC (Activity-Based Costing), that is expected to be able to measure in more detail the main and supporting activities in the implementation of education. The results show that all Faculties at UPI declare their readiness to implement the ABC system. Based on the FGD (Focus Group Discussion), there are several problems in implementing ABC system at UPI in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. This chapter describes a case where learning and assessment were centered on the use of an online blog for sharing ideas; logging progressive details of an emerging artwork; providing supportive comments and advice from both teacher and fellow students; as well as, unexpectedly, creating a very strong community of practice. The case study discusses the reasons for choosing the blog tool, the features of the chosen blog tool, the elements of the assessment task, the outcomes of the learning activity, the supporting materials required for the successful execution of the task, and the responses to the task from the students through student surveys. Other issues this case study addresses are considering assessment tasks for the specific needs of students and assisting students who are reluctant about using technology. The chapter presents a positive argument for using a blog tool for reflective practice and students chronically documenting a progressive task.

MobiGlam is a generic framework of interoperability with existing virtual learning environments (VLEs) that provides a compact and easy to use implementation of learning activity on Java enabled mobile devices. A case study was conducted at the University of Glamorgan, UK where MobiGlam was seamlessly integrated with the university’s VLE to support the delivery of computer courses at the foundation level. Such integration showed an added value to the participants and in many cases, it improved their use of the VLE. This chapter reports on the deployment, the evaluation, and the results of this case study. The results are analysed from two views: the impact on the participants’ use of the VLE and the framework’s overall usability.

User-created virtual worlds are emerging technologies with rapidly growing acceptance in education. Of the various reported educational uses of these virtual worlds, the focus of this chapter is on virtual worlds for constructivist learning activities, because this use has application to many real-life courses and has the potential to transform teaching and learning. To assist educators with recognizing and understanding virtual world learning activities, Antonacci & Modaress (2005, 2008) developed the Interaction-Combinations Integration model. However, this model has not been studied in actual virtual-world learning practice. Using a case study method, this chapter examines the usefulness of this model to organize and describe actual virtual world learning activities, provides additional learning activity examples, and describes what was needed to implement and conduct these learning activities.

The use of games for educational purposes has been considered as a learning methodology that attracts the students’ attention and may allow focusing individuals on the learning activity through the SG game dynamic. Based on the hypothesis that students’ Temporal Perspective has an impact on learning performance and time-on-task, this paper aims to analyze the relation between these variables in the SG MetaVals. The authors expect students’ TP to relate to higher performance, both for individual and collaborative GBL. Moreover, they analyze the relation between the time-on-task and the students’ temporal perspectives. A case study was conducted in a Masters course in finance. Results showed no significant differences in game performances among individuals with different TP. However, present-oriented students showed a higher time-on-task, both for individual and collaborative phases of the game. These results could point to the fact that including SG in the curriculum could help leveraging students learning performance.

This study deals with the use of WhatsApp voice note in speaking class. This study aimed at figuring out the teacher’s way in implementing WhatsApp voice note in teaching speaking on narrative text and investigating the perspective on WhatsApp voice note to improve speaking skill on narrative text. In conducting this study, the researcher used qualitative approach. Case study was applied as a research design in this study. This study involved 35 students of the tenth grade (X MIPA 1) and one English teacher. Instruments used in this study were classroom observation, interview, and questionnaire. The results of this study showed that nine steps were used by the teacher in the teaching and learning process through WhatsApp voice note in speaking class on narrative text. Meanwhile, most of the students gave their positive response toward the teaching and learning process. The teacher argued that WhatsApp voice note is a useful tool to provide the students opportunities to speak especially on narrative text and the students can share information easily. It also allows the students asking for help using English. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that learning to speak English using WhatsApp voice note is an attractive learning activity, positive activity, and WhatsApp voice note is easy to use. Finally, this study suggests other researchers to involve the objective data, to enrich the instrumentation, to add more sample of the study and to employ other methods and design in order to enrich the data.
