<p>Medicinal plants have been a revolutionary breakthrough in the treatment of male sexual dysfunction. Traditional medicine based on a holistic philosophy is quite different with the practice of “western” medicine. Phytochemical substances focus their mechanisms of healing to the root of cause, i.e. the inability of controlling the proper function of the whole body system. Hence, medicinal plants manage sexual dysfunction and male fertility in the frame of sexual dysfunction as a whole entity. Some previous researches prove that the use of medicinal plants have a good impact in the treatment of a variety of male sexual problems. This paper will discuss several important aspects of aphrodisiac plants and preliminary study regarding them in Indonesia. Difficulties inherent to activity guided isolation and the specific requirements of bioassays are also discussed.</p>

SummaryA comparison of a group of chronic schizophrenics with controls showed that: the patients had significantly less interest in sex, frequency of intercourse, and satisfaction from sex; the percentage of individuals with sexual dreams and sexual fantasies did not differ between the two groups; the severity of psychopathology influenced frequency of intercourse and satisfaction from sex, and the length of institutionalization influenced interest in sex; the schizophrenics had a variety of sexual disorders, but there was a significant difference between the sexes in disturbances of thought and perception; and, significantly more male schizophrenics, in comparison with females, had sexual dysfunction associated with pharmacotherapy, but feminization in the males was far from predominant. The patients' sexual disorders are not disturbing to the social life of the open mental hospital or the community surrounding it.

Background:Patients with Behçet’s have sexual dysfunction in recently literature. However, depression and anxiety accompanying these studies were not excluded. In addition, increased sexual dysfunction in patients with Behçet’s has been reported in these studies in relation to depression and anxiety. Also it has been stated that endothelial dysfunction decreases the vasodilator neurotransmitter level. It was emphasized that this may lead to erectile dysfunction in disease of Behçet’s.Objectives:The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between erectile dysfunction (ED) and radial peripapillary capillary (RPC) density determined by Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA).Methods:Patients under 45 years old who had no known additional disease and had no eye and neurological involvement were included in the study. The patients were evaluated with Beck Depression and Anxiety Scale. Accordingly, patients without anxiety and depression were included in the study. An International Index of ErectileFunction (IIEF) questionnaire was applied to a total of 18 patients who met the inclusion criteria. Detailed ophthalmological examination and OCTA imaging were performed by the ophthalmologist. Patients whose eye bottom could not be evaluated clearly (Corneal pathology, cataracts, etc.), image quality was 0.5 and below, and additional eye disease (glaucoma, optic neuropathy, maculopativb) were excluded from the study. Results:The mean age of the patients was 37 ± 6.5 years, and the duration of the disease was 82.37 ± 47.78 months. There was a strong relationship between RPC Small Vessel Whole Density (RPC-SVWD) and overall satisfaction and sexual satisfaction (p: 0.036 and 0.045). There was a strong positive relationship between RPC Small Vessel Peripapillary Density (RPC-SVPD) and erectile function, sexual desire, sexual satisfaction and general satisfaction (p: 0.036, 0.032, 0.005, 0.004). There was a strong positive relationship between RPC All Vessel Peripapillary Density (RPC-AVPD) and erectile function and sexual satisfaction (p: 0.048, 0.015).Conclusion:In our study, a significant relationship was found between sexual function and RPC density. In the literature, it has been found that nitric oxide synthesis decreases due to endothelial dysfunction in patients with Behçet’s. Although there are preliminary study data, we found a significant relationship between the vascular layer of both the penis and the eye in our study. The data we obtained in this study, in which all factors that may cause erectile dysfunction are excluded, show that Behçet’s, which is theoretically known to affect all vascular structures, can affect sexual functions by its nature. In our study, although there is a relationship between ED and OCTA data in Behçet’s disease, the large number of cases of our ongoing study will provide clearer information.References:[1]Erdemir F, Atilgan D, Boztepe Ö, Aytan P, Uluocak N, Taliyurt T. A preliminary study of human mammary carcinoma on the ultrastructural level is reported for a metastatic, subcutaneous nodule, obtained as a surgical biopsy. The patient's tumor had responded favorably to a series of hormonal therapies, including androgens, estrogens, progestins, and corticoids for recurring nodules over eight years. The pertinent nodule was removed from the region of the gluteal maximus, two weeks following stilbestrol therapy. It was about 1.5 cms in diameter, and was located within the dermis. Pieces from it were fixed immediately in cold fixatives: phosphate buffered osmium tetroxide, glutaraldehyde, and paraformaldehyde. Embedment in each case was in Vestopal W. Contrasting was done with combinations of uranyl acetate and lead hydroxide.

A new strain of mice, which had arisen by mutation from a dystrophic mouse colony was designated ‘mdx’, because the genetic defect, which manifests itself in brief periods of muscle destruction followed by episodes of muscle regeneration appears to be X-linked. Further studies of histopathological changes in muscle from ‘mdx’ mice at the light microscopic or electron microscopic levels have been published, but only one preliminary study has been on the tibialis anterior (TA) of ‘mdx’ mice less than four weeks old. Lesions in the ‘mdx’ mice vary between different muscles, and centronucleation of fibers in all muscles studied so far appears to be especially prominent in older mice. Lesions in young ‘mdx’ mice have not been studied extensively, and the results appear to be at variance with one another. The degenerative and regenerative aspects of the lesions in the TA of 23 to 26-day-old ‘mdx’ mice appear to vary quantitatively.
