The condition of Embaloh River is still well maintained, with clear water and a large variety of fishes. This is because the forest around Embaloh River is still dense; there is no deforestation, mining, and palm oil garden. In such a condition, the river is capable of maintaining a large variety of fishes that have not listed yet. Therefore, this research has the purpose of studying the variety of fishes in Embaloh River, and also to categorize the fishes based on their benefits, whether as decorative fishes, to be eaten, or even as a decorative fish and also to be eaten. The research was conducted on the Embaloh River, Banua Ujung Village, Embaloh Hulu District, Kapuas Hulu Regency. Research Data is obtained by the use of fishing equipment such as mesh, Bubu, Sauk, trawler, burst, and Talom. The method of research using the survey method, the selection of observation stations conducted with (purposive sampling) based on consideration of environmental conditions of the water. This location is made 3 (three) stations on the Embaloh River and 1 (one) station is on the lake (oxbow) called Lake Loane. Lake Loane is a stream of the Embaloh River Moreover, fish of species taken from Embaloh River and Loane Lake, which water from Embaloh River flows to, consist of several families of fish; Cobitidae (1 species), Cyprinidae (13 species), Elopidae (1 species), Grynocheilidae (1 species), Helostomatidae (1 species), Osphronemidae (2 species), Polynemidae (1 species), Pristolepididae (1 species), Sisoridae (1 species), and Syngnathidae (1 species).Keywords: Banua Ujung Village, Embaloh River, Fish Species Diversity, Loane Lake.

The purpose of this study is to describe the presence of species diversity and composition in Bratas River. Fish sampling was conducted in dry and rainy seasons in five locations, namely Batu City, Blitar City, Tulungagung regency, Jombang Regency, and Mojokerto Regency, East Java. This study collected 295 individual fishes belonging to 12 species. The 162 individuals were obtained in the dry season, while 133 individuals were captured in rainy season. The most dominant species was mujahir (Oreochromis mosambica) followed by keting (Mystus paniceps) and kutuk (Channa striata). The fish abundance significantly varied among study sites, while that of species richness and diversity did not differ significantly. Fish diversity in high elevation was the lowest, while that in relatively middle elevation was the highest. Compared to the previous report, fish species diversity in Brantas was decreasing, some species were not found. Three species were considered as exotic include Oreochromis mosambica, Clarias batracus, Oreochromis niloticus.

The influence of spatial, temporal and environmental factors on fish species diversity in headwater streams in Paraguay and Paraná basins, Brazil was examined. A total of 4,605 individuals were sampled, distributed in 60 species. The sampled streams in Paraná basin presented a larger total species richness (42) than Paraguay streams (40). However the estimated richness was larger in Paraguay basin (53) than Paraná streams (50). The streams of Paraná basin had a greater mean species richness and evenness, while more individuals per sample were found in the Paraguay basin. Difference between the sub-basins were found in the Paraguay basin, while for the basin of Paraná, richness and evenness vary significantly between the sub-basins, but the number of individuals varied seasonally. The most important environmental factors to species diversity and abundance were altitude, water temperature, stream width and stream depth for both the basins.

Stream and lake fishes are important economic and recreational resources that respond to alterations in their surrounding watersheds and serve as indicators of ecological stressors on aquatic ecosystems. Research suggests that fish species diversity is largely influenced by surface water connectivity, or the lack thereof; however, few studies consider freshwater connections and their effect on both lake and stream fish communities across broad spatial extents. We used fish data from 559 lakes and 854 streams from the midwestern/northeastern United States to examine the role of surface water connectivity on fish species richness and community composition. We found that although lakes and streams share many species, connectivity had a positive effect on species richness across lakes and streams and helped explain species composition. Taking an integrated approach that includes both lake and stream fish communities and connectivity among freshwaters helps inform scientific understanding of what drives variation in fish species diversity at broad spatial scales and can help managers who are faced with planning for state, regional, or national scale monitoring and restoration.
