Catalyst-free spontaneous polymerization for the synthesis of halogen-rich polysulfonates at room temperature in air with 100% atom economy in high yields was developed. The resulting polymers possess various properties, including post-functionalization, extraordinarily high refractive index, visible photodegradation, photoacid generation, multi-color and 3D fluorescent photopatterning, and practical broad-spectrum antibacterial activity.

Abstract:: An efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of new pyrano[3,2-c] and pyrano[3,2-a]carbazole de-rivatives via a three component reaction of 4-hydroxycarbazole or 2-hydroxycarbazole, isocyanides, and dialkylacetylenedi-carboxylates. Noteworthy features of this protocol include mild reaction conditions, catalyst-free, high atom-economy and high yields.

A new and efficient one-pot synthesis of polysubstituted pyrrole derivatives by three-component reaction between dialkyl acetylenedicarboxylates, triphenylphosphine, 2-aminopyridin derivatives in the presence of arylglyoxals is described. The reactions were performed in dichloromethane at room temperature and neutral conditions and afforded high yields of products.

An efficient approach for the synthesis of pyrazolopyridines containing the aminochromane motif through a base-catalyzed cyclization reaction is reported. The synthesis was carried out through a three-component reaction of (arylhydrazono)methyl-4H-chromen-4-one, malononitrile, primary amines in the presence of Et3N at room temperature. However, carrying out the reaction under the same conditions without base led to a fused chromanyl-cyanopyridine. High selectivity, high atom economy, and good to high yields in addition to mild reaction conditions are the advantages of this approach.

A mild and efficient catalyst-free method for the rapid synthesis at room temperature of 3-thiomethylated oxindole derivatives has been achieved via the Michael addition of aryl thiols to ring and 1-substituted 3-(2,2,2-trifluoroethylidene)oxindoles in dichloromethane. The method was applicable to a wide range of thiols and variously substituted 3-(2,2,2-trifluoroethylidene)oxindoles under mild conditions as demonstrated by the synthesis in high yields with good diastereoselectivities of 30 3-thiomethylated oxindoles bearing a trifluoromethyl group.

The catalyst-free sp3 C–H functionalization of tetrahydroacridine(quinolines) derivatives has been achieved using a Michael-type reaction with N-arylmaleimides. This method enables the facile synthesis of biologically important N-aryl bearing tetrahydroacridine(quinolines) moieties in a single step with high yields. The reaction occurs under non-catalytic conditions by heating of hydroacridines(quinolines) in DMSO within 4 h at 100–1200C. The reaction between starting compounds allows synthesizing (3S/4R)-3-[(3R/4S)-9-chloroacridine(quinoline)-4-yl]-1(-N-aryl)pyrrolidine-2,5-diones with a good yield. The structure of compounds was proved by spectral methods of analysis. The 1H NMR spectrum shows characteristic signals of protons of the CH-groups in acridine(quinoline) (3.4–3.5 ppm) and pyrrolidine (3.8–3.9 ppm) cycles. It is interesting to note that the main direction of the fragmentation is the Michael retro-reaction, which is accompanied by the elimination of 1-(2-nitrophenyl)-1H-pyrrole-2,5-dione and leads to the formation of m/z ions of starting chloroacridines(quinolines).

Strong coupling between a cavity and transition dipole moments in emitters leads to vacuum Rabi splitting. Researchers have not reported strong coupling between a single emitter and a dielectric cavity at room temperature until now. In this study, we investigated the photoluminescence (PL) spectra of colloidal quantum dots on the surface of a SiO2/Si material at various collection angles at room temperature. We measured the corresponding reflection spectra for the SiO2/Si material and compared them with the PL spectra. We observed PL spectral splitting and regarded it as strong coupling between colloidal quantum dots and the SiO2/Si material. Upper polaritons and lower polaritons exhibited anticrossing behavior. We observed Rabi splitting from single-photon emission in the dielectric cavity at room temperature. Through analysis, we attributed the Rabi splitting to strong coupling between quantum dots and bound states in the continuum in the low-refractive-index/high-refractive-index hybrid material.
