<p>The viaduct of Marly Le Roi was built in 1884 between the railway stations of Saint-Cloud and Saint-Nom-la- Bretèche. During that time, the French engineer Gustave Eiffel (later known for its tower) had largely encountered successes with the design and construction of riveted puddled iron structures. Belonging to these types of structures, the viaduct of Marly Le Roi is carrying more than 16.000 travelers every day.</p><p>Lately, the demand in transportation lead the client (SNCF) to increase the capacity of their suburban trains. The bridge could not be retrofitted for these new loads. In addition, the expansion of the city under the structure was raising issues such as noise reduction that could not be answered by the client due to the structure type. Therefore, it has been chosen to replace this historical monument by a composite twin-girder bridge.</p><p>The new structure was designed by Baudin Châteauneuf. The design and operations to move the two structures and dismantle the existing bridge were carried out by Freyssinet.</p>

<p>Opened in September of 2018, the Gathering Place is a spectacular 27-hectare (66 acre) public park located two miles from downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma and nestled along the eastern bank of the Arkansas River. This paper focuses on design and construction of a footbridge spanning across busy Riverside Drive to integrate the river into the park landscape.</p><p>As part of the park development the highway itself was transformed into an iconic feature. To meet this challenge, architectural considerations took an important role in the selection of the structure type for the new crossing, leading to the choice of a single-span, post-tensioned concrete box girder bridge with trapezoidal cross section. With a clear span of 43.7 m (143.5 feet) and a depth of only 1.2 meters (4.0 feet) the structure is exceptionally slender. A unique integral foundation system allowed the elimination of bearings, expansion joints, and abutment retaining walls, thus creating the impression of the bridge growing organically out from the landscape.</p><p>The paper touches briefly on the transformation of the urban environment with the development of the park and then discusses the challenges encountered during design and construction of the footbridge due to its great slenderness and unusual foundation system.</p>

With the increase of the population recently, changes have occurred in the design and construction techniques of the buildings due to the insufficient building stock. With the development of science and technology, new construction techniques have emerged in the construction and design of structures. In the global population increase, high-rise buildings were built to meet the need for shelter and these structures were built with the development of technology. However, high-rise buildings have become the symbol of technological development for countries and cities. Since the 21st century, the construction of high-rise buildings in cities with different designs and new construction techniques has provided the development of architecture and engineering. It is important to design high-rise buildings in accordance with the culture and texture of the city. In addition, high-rise buildings should be built as structures resistant to natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires and floods. For this reason, the design and construction techniques of high-rise buildings have become a research subject in the field of architecture and engineering. The aim of this study is to examine the designs and construction techniques of high-rise buildings. In the first part of the study, the concept of high rise building and its historical development are discussed. In the second part of the study, the designs and construction techniques of high-rise buildings are investigated. In addition, the study was conducted to examine the high structure by giving examples from the world and Turkey. Within the scope of the study, literature researches such as domestic and international articles, books, published theses, web resources were conducted and data were collected. As a result of the examinations made within the scope of the study, it is important to select the building materials in accordance with the characteristics of the building materials in the design and construction techniques of high-rise buildings with the development of technology. Therefore, the architect should know the properties of the materials in the design of high-rise buildings and use them in accordance with the properties of the material in the construction of the buildings. In addition, increasing the height of the building by making aerodynamic designs in high buildings reduces the effect of the wind speed.

Urban linguistic landscapes consist of various kinds of signs in different languages, together transmitting a myriad of messages to the people living in, visiting or passing through the city. Official authorities are the authors of some signs, e.g. street names and tourist information, while businesses operating on a local or global level are the authors of other signs, e.g. advertisements and information about opening hours. In addition, individual persons or groups of people give their input to the urban linguistic landscapes, e.g. by attaching a sticker to a bus stop or writing a slogan on a park bench. The current article explores this third, unofficial layer of the urban linguistic landscape, and the topics, discourses and ideologies it encompasses. Through a pilot study of the activist linguistic landscapes at two railway stations in Helsinki, the article discusses the methodological underpinnings of this kind of linguistic landscape research.

Variants of reshaping the objects of the industrial heritage, including the buildings of transport infrastructure located in central districts of historical towns are analyzed in the article. The evolution of the development of depots for maintaining and repairing the locomotives is represented. The uniqueness of the complex of buildings of Nikolaevskaya Railway in Moscow, an integrated historical and architectural ensemble, is noted. At the present moment one of few preserved buildings is a circular depot in the center of Moscow. The loss of this unique specimen of industrial architecture of the middle of 19th century would be an irreplaceable loss for the cultural heritage of the nation. The only way of its rescue from full destruction is its restoration and inclusion in the contemporary life of the city. The method of possible variants of the contemporary usage of historical building-monuments of the industrial heritage is proposed, which secures their safety on the basis of self-repayment. The preferable variants for reshaping the building of circular depot in Moscow are considered on the basis of qualitative criteria. Keeping in mind the location of the depot near railway stations - the sources of the main contingent being in need of short-term rent - the variant of placing a hotel-touristic center in the depot was chosen. This corresponds to the basic direction of the State Program of the City of Moscow for the period of 2012-2016, which provides the development of the hotel chain at the expense of the reconstruction and the creation of the touristic infrastructure. The authors considered in the article the variant of usage of the depot as a multifunctional hotel complex gives the possibility to solve the problem of shortage of two-stars hotels in the center of Moscow and, what is very important, to preserve the monument in an undistorted appearance.

Because the multi-box girder bridge has many advantages, such as large torsion rigidity, large load-bearing capacity, stability, fine appearance, good applicability and convenient construction, it is widely used in China. But for the defection existing in design and construction, many box girders have serious diseases. Aiming at the diseases of a viaduct bridge, the causes of diseases are analyzed and the enforcement method is proposed in this paper. The study shows that, though the box girders have large torsion rigidity, the diaphragms are designed necessarily to enhance the transversal connection between the box girders, to make them bear the loads together, to reduce their stresses and deformation, and to reduce the stresses of deck too.

Membrane materials and open-close roof buildings are new building materials and structural forms, which have developed rapidly in recent years. This new form of close combination of architecture and nature has enriched the connotation of architecture, exhibited the city, but also to the architectural design and construction has brought great challenges. Through the research and analysis of the performance of the membrane material, this study provides a reference for the design and construction of the domestic membrane material for the opening and closing roof structure.
