Mindfulness is increasingly implemented as a tool in mental health practice for coping and self-care. Some Christians worry that these practices might be in conflict with their own tradition, while other Christian contexts are reclaiming the contemplative aspects of the faith. Though clinicians are not trained to teach on religious topics and ethically must avoid pushing religion onto clients, conceptualization and research extend the benefits of mindfulness practices for religious clients. This paper will discuss the evidence for using mindfulness in mental health treatment and connect mindfulness to the Christian tradition. The authors explore how intentional awareness and embodiment of the present moment are supported in Christian theology through the incarnation of Jesus and God’s attention of the physical body in the Christian scriptures. The authors also discuss how sacraments and prayer naturally overlap with mindfulness practices for the dual purposes of emotional healing and spiritual growth. To bolster the benefits of mindfulness in the psychological and religious realms, the purpose of this paper is to empower therapists to address client concerns of whether mindfulness is in conflict with Christianity, support clients in expanding current Christian religious coping, and provide Christian leaders with more information about how mindfulness elements are already present in Christian rituals and beliefs.

There is an unprecedented pressure that both individuals and businesses endure, especially when considering changes and challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic and the COVID-19 crisis. Mindfulness seems to become an integrated part of people's lives, in the attempt to be more concentrated on their daily tasks, more focused on living in the present moment, more determined to eliminate anxiety and stress. In like manner, mindfulness in business seems to become a key solution to stronger entrepreneurship and highly successful workplace relationships. Thus, the new economy, the knowledge-based economy, centers its attention on the powerful links and opportunities that may be encountered between well-being, mental health, and mindfulness, seeking a way to create valuable mindfulness business principles, capable of producing outstanding results, empowering people, facilitating cooperation, allowing good governance, inducing corporate social responsibility, fostering community connections, enabling competitiveness, and supporting sustainability, development, and environmental balance.

Families of children with disabilities often experience high levels of stress associated with taking care of a child with disability. The perceived stress by the caregivers may often lead to negative outcomes in day-to-day functioning for caregivers themselves as well as the child. Mindfulness as an element of consciousness has been acknowledged to promote positivity and well-being among individuals. It is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations. This chapter focuses on the application of mindfulness-based therapies for caregivers (parents) of children with cerebral palsy. This chapter also entails in detail therapeutic techniques like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), its in-depth description, background, and applications as an effective approach for the intervention of caregivers.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is the most prevalent neurodevelopmental disorder in children and adolescents. It is marked with deficits in behavioral symptoms of hyperactivity/impulsivity along with cognitive deficits in the domain of attention, self-regulation, and executive function. Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBI) have come up as an intervention of choice for various psychological disorders such as anxiety disorder, depression, substance abuse, and eating disorder. Mindfulness at its core is paying non-judgmental attention to the present moment. Despite the robust evidence for both of the treatment modalities available, the cognitive symptoms of ADHD still progress towards adulthood affect the individual's achievement and overall psychosocial adjustment. A number of recent studies have found preliminary evidence about the effectiveness of MBI as an adjunct treatment in ADHD. The chapter will discuss the evidence-based interventions that incorporate mindfulness.

Mindfulness is focusing on the present moment while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's thoughts, feelings, and body sensations as they are. The use of mindfulness practices on children and adolescents is burgeoning. This chapter covers the meaning and elements of mindfulness, their measurement, the various techniques, and exercises exclusive for children. Such techniques are typically individualized, tailor-made, personalized, contextualized, play-based, activity-oriented, reward-oriented, and maintained at the child's developmental level. Mindfulness parenting is vital. A mindful parent is aware of one's thoughts and feelings; is responsive to the child's needs, thoughts, and feelings; is better at regulating own emotions; is less critical of oneself or the child; is better at standing back from situations and avoiding an impulsive reaction. Issues related to professionalism, formal institutions for training mindfulness, and ongoing research on this theme, their achievements, and setbacks are listed before providing future directions for work in this area.

Purpose: The studies on consumer behavior on the market should take into account not only the criteria of product choices, but also the factors determining the choice of the place of purchase. The purpose of the paper is to assess the knowledge about the factors influencing the consumer choices with respect to a beauty parlor on the part of owners and managers offering cosmetic services in parlors located in Kraków and in other cities of the Małopolska Province. The significance of individual factors was assessed. Methodology: A diagnostic survey method was used for the study. An interview questionnaire comprising 51 questions was used as the research tool. The research was carried out with the use of PAPI (Paper and Pen Interview). 298 correctly completed questionnaire were qualified for statistical analyses. The choice of companies was non-random, purposeful and depended on their location in the area of Kraków and the Małopolska Province. Findings: The received results show which factors – according to the owners and managers – guide consumers in their choices of a beauty parlor. Research limitations: When analyzing the generalizing conclusions, caution should be exercised as to uncertainty with respect to the validity of the population list in the address database purchased for the study purposes from an external company. However, attempts were made to make the study representative, yet certain caution should be exercised during the generalization of the findings with respect to the entire population. Implications: Identification of factors determining the choice of a place of purchase of services is valid especially from the point of view of companies operating at a competitive market. Skillful use of knowledge on the consumer behavior often determines the efficiency of actions and the success of an enterprise. Originality: The paper presents a fragment of analysis of data procured as part of broad research of the market of beauty services in the area of Kraków and the neighborhood. At the present moment, a limited number of scientific publications about the market of beauty services is available, both in the national and regional approach.

Chapter 5 uses the model of the three “worlds of the text” to discuss the ways that poems are always spanning the ancient world and the worlds of their readers. It advocates for the necessity of both historical sensitivity and attention to the needs of the present moment. It discusses allusion as one way in which biblical poems can relate to one another. It argues that prophetic poetry in particular is both uniquely oriented to historical moments and at times paradoxically resistant to specific rhetorical purposes. It also considers how the destruction of Jerusalem in 586 BCE was a traumatic catalyst for new creative work. The chapter ends with a reading of Psalm 137 as a poem of rage and trauma, in conversation with W. E. B. Du Bois and Reginald Dwayne Betts. Ultimately, this chapter argues that the work of reading poems is not easy, but is myriad, demanding, and morally complex. It requires patient consideration of the poem in its diverging contexts and the extension of empathy to readers and writers, past and present.

LANGUAGE NOTE | Document text in Chinese; abstract also in English. For 40 years, international rules have limited human embryo research to the first 14 days of embryonic development. On May 26, 2021, in its latest guidelines for stem cell research and its medical applications, the International Society for Stem Cell Research eased the 14-day restriction. This raises myriad ethical issues. At their core is the debate over the moral status of embryos, which exposes ethical conflicts between cultural perspectives. This article discusses the moral status of embryos and argues from the perspective of Confucian ethics that the 14-day limit should not be waived at the present moment.

Background: Microplastics are considered an emerging contaminant due to their wide distribution and production in the environment, representing constant exposure to humans. However, little is known about the effects it can trigger in the body. Objective: To establish a concrete relationship between microplastics and the human body, their means of production, exposure, systemic responses, and diseases caused by their presence Methods: In this context, a review article of foreign and national literature was developed, through the PubMed and Scielo Indexers, where studies were found that address the production of plastic, the paths that lead to the production of microplastics and the exposure and damage that it represents to human health, being possible to exclude the literary sums with a publication date before 2017 Results: hey showed that translocation of the residues occurs to the circulatory and lymphatic system via the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. Once in the body, microplastic can stimulate a chronic inflammatory response that functions as a precursor to neoplasia and fibrosis, or carry toxic compounds such as heavy metals, endogenous disruptors, biofilms, and persistent organic pollutants. In addition, lung biopsies have shown plastic fibers in patients with respiratory diseases, highlighting a potentially dangerous accumulation. Conclusion: The present moment demonstrates that experimental research to prove the effect of microplastics is extremely necessary, since the controversy among authors and the repetition of information already described affirm that the research done so far is not sufficient.
