Workload related to material handling is one of main biomechanical risks that cause work related musculoskeletal disorderat work. The aim of this study wasto assess the risk factors for biomechanical loading present at carried out tasks by port stevedores. First, we made a diagnosis using the risk assessment matrix (RAM) then; we evaluated the biomechanical risk using the NIOSH lifting equation (Compound method). The results were a high level of unacceptable risk at the beginning and at the end of the task (scored 4.22 and 8.50 respectively). Subsequently, we made a correlation analysis between this scored and the musculoskeletal discomfort perceived by stevedores. From this analysis, it is evident that there is a direct relation between lifting vertical distance, trunk torsion, and the increase of musculoskeletal lesions suffered by the dockers. Finally, we proposed some methods to improve the activities of filling and emptying containers and minimize the manual material handling.

Manual Material Handling (MMH) duringmaintenance activities poses strain to employees and at times it results in injuries. This type of work entails lifting, bending and twisting which can cause great strain to the human body if done improperly. A paradigm shift has taken place in Ergonomics from the narrow to a wide approach dealing with physiological, psychological, technological and organizational aspects of human work environment. This paper analyses the MMH hazards during the replacement of jaw bits in Electrically Operated Tong (EOT) crane in Hot Rolling Mill. Ergonomics risk factors were estimated using Rapid Entire Body Assessment risk assessment (REBA) tool. Based on the analysis, suitable engineering improvement called Lift - Assist Device was developed to reduce extreme range of motion while lifting, moving and inserting and found to be satisfactory.

In doing a job manually such as moving, lifting a certain material needs to be evaluated to minimize the risk of work accidents. The research that will be conducted is the evaluation of manual material handling on the removal and removal of thiners. The purpose of this study was to determine the application of work biomechanics in minimizing the risk of spinal cord injury and providing improvement in work activities. The methods used in this research are Nordic Body Map, NIOSH, Rapid Entire Body Assessment, L5 / S1 (Fc) Force and Energy Consumptions. The results of this study were found that several parts of the workers' body muscles were injured, such as the neck, left and right shoulders, arms and wrists, back and waist. The RWL and Li values after repairs where is RWL exceeded the Load Constant value of 20 kg, and the Li value <1 (no risk). Then the work category level which was originally light-moderate work changed to light work. Furthermore, the original REBA score got a score of 5 to 3 (level 1). And the results of the compressive force against L5 / S1 have values of Fc <AL and Fc < MPL.
