Paracoccidioidomycosis, the most prevalent deep mycosis in Latin America, is caused by dimorphic species of the genus Paracoccidioides, affects predominantly male rural workers between 30-50 years of age and is an important cause of morbidity and mortality. It can present in two clinical forms: acute/subacute or chronic. In rare cases paracoccidioidomycosis may simulate neoplasia and must be considered as a differential diagnosis of intra-abdominal tumors in endemic areas. We report an exuberant case of subacute paracoccidioidomycosis in an elderly lady, although it is more frequent in the juvenile form. Multiple facial skin lesions were associated with a wasting syndrome and extensive adenopathy including in the hepatic area, causing bile duct dilatation simulating a cholangiocarcinoma. Skin histopathology was diagnostic and antifungal treatment allowed complete resolution of cutaneous and systemic lesions, thus highlighting the merit of the dermatologist, who was fundamental for the conclusive diagnosis and institution of specific therapy, resulting in a favorable outcome.

Crytococcosis is the most common deep mycosis in cats, despite its rarity in the medical practice of small animals. The infectious agent of the disease is Cryptococcus sp, an opportunistic fungus that can spread throughout the body. An approximately two-year-old mixed breed cat, weighting 3 kg was presented to a private practice in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Physical examination relealed pyogranulomatous skin lesions, mainly on the nasal planum and the second digit of the left thoracic lim. The animal presented no neurological or respiratory signs. The response to antifulgal on cutaneous lesions was favorable, but the animal did not resist a second sedation and died within twenty-eight days after starting treatment. This report shows an atypical case of cryptococcosis due to the lack of immunodeficiency.

The authors present a case illustrating the importance of obtaining a biopsy of any facial skin lesions in a patient presenting with an intracranial tumor involving the facial or trigeminal nerve. Conventional malignant melanoma metastasizes to the brain frequently and does not usually pose diagnostic difficulties. Direct intracranial spread of cutaneous melanoma is rare. In our patient, desmoplastic melanoma with perineural spread to the Meckel cave mimicked a malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor clinically, radiographically, and histologically.

Skin cancer is increasing in incidence and the face is the commonest site for skin cancers to occur. Patients who are at risk from skin cancers include those who have fair skin and who have had long-term exposure to sunshine.1 While facial skin cancers are more common in the older population, greater numbers of younger people are developing these cancers.2-4 Facial skin lesions are common. This article aims to help members of the dental team recognise the features of those lesions which may indicate malignancy or pre-malignancy.

ABSTRACT: Skin diseases in pigs can negatively impact the production. They cause losses related to the death of the affected pigs, to the cost with the treatment, growth retardation and condemnations in the slaughterhouses. This study was developed to determine the frequency and describe the histopathological findings of skin diseases in pigs in different age groups through a retrospective study from 2006 to 2018. A total of 154 conclusive cases were analyzed, including skin restricted diseases (allergic dermatitis, exudative epidermitis, vesicular dermatitis, pityriasis rosea, swinepox, follicular cyst, papilloma and scrotal hemangioma) or skin lesions secondary to systemic diseases (erysipelas, porcine dermatitis and nephropathy syndrome (PDNS), bacterial septicemia and multiple hemorrhages without definite cause). The skin lesions were classified as bacterial (46.1%), viral (26.6%), allergic (12.3%), neoplastic (1.3%) and others (13.6%). Swine erysipelas was the most frequent diagnosis (47/154), followed by PDNS (23/154), allergic dermatitis (19/154) and exudative epidermitis (15/154). Vesicular dermatitis (9/154), pityriasis rosea (9/154), septicemia with cutaneous manifestations (9/154), swinepox (9/154) and multiple hemorrhages without definite cause (7/154) were also observed. Follicular cyst (3/154), hyperkeratosis without definite cause (2/154), papilloma (1/154), and scrotal hemangioma (1/154) were less frequently described. Of the conclusive diagnosis, age was reported in 138 cases, with the highest frequency of skin lesions observed at the inspection process during slaughter (56/138).
