The Mn3Sb metastable compound is formed at high pressure and temperature and it decomposes upon heating above 420 K into Mn2Sb and Mn. It has a cubic crystalline structure describing the Pm-3m (№ 221) space group with a lattice parameter of a = 0.400 nm. In the present work, according to the results of neutron diffraction investigations and taking into account magnetometry data, it is shown that Mn3Sb is an antiferromagnet, and a model of the magnetic structure with a triangular configuration of equal magnetic moments in magnitude is proposed. The magnetic moments of manganese atoms, constituting the basis of a unit magnetic cell, lie in the (111) plane and form an equilateral triangle. According to neutron diffraction data, the magnetic moments of manganese atoms were determined at different temperatures.

The magnetic structure of CrNiAs was determined from magnetisation and powder neutron diffraction experiments. In the 110-182 K temperature range, the compound is ferromagnetic, resulting mainly from the Cr moment of 1.25(5) μB. Below 110 K, neutron diffraction data reveals typical satellite reflections which propagation vector is 0.228 c*. A model of oscillating magnetic moments was refined from the integrated intensity of the few additional lines.

We report the synthesis under pressure, the critical temperature and the structural characteristics of YSr 2 Cu 3 O w . The compound does not form at normal pressure, but, once formed, can be retained at normal pressure in a metastable state. The synthesis was carried out in a multi-anvil apparatus at 30 kBars and 1050°C. The as-prepared sample was found to become superconductor with a Tc of ≈63 K. Tc increased up to ≈70 K after annealing in oxygen at 290°C. The refinement of the neutron diffraction data indicated that the as prepared YSr 2 Cu 3 O w is tetragonal (a=3.7855 Å and c=11.386 Å) and the oxygen content, w , is ≈ 6.84.

AbstractNeutron powder diffraction data of braunite MnThe magnetic structure is dominated by the magnetic ordering of the A layers thus reflecting the relations of the chemical cell: Within the (001) plane of the A sheets magnetic moments of the two nonequivalent MnMagnetization experiments indicate that besides the afordered Mn ions weakly coupled spins ordering at temperatures below 2 K exist. In accordance with that, additional neutron diffraction reflections arise at

Techniques have been developed that allow the measurement of accurate single-crystal neutron-diffraction data at pressures up to 10 GPa, using angle-dispersive methods. High-quality data have been collected up to 10 GPa, to a resolution of sinθ/λ ≃ 1.5 Å−1, from samples of size 3–4 mm^{3}. This article presents the methods developed to mount and centre the sample accurately on the instrument; to reduce the background and hence increase the precision of the measured reflection intensities; and to increase further the accessible region of reciprocal space with a single sample loading. Developments are also highlighted, with a view to increasing the range of both science and pressures that can be achieved at the Institut Laue–Langevin reactor source using single-crystal techniques.

ABSTRACTWe have studied structural change and lattice strain formation during absorption and desorption of hydrogen (deuterium) by high purity LaNi5-x Snx alloys (x = 0.22, 0.25) using in situ X-ray and neutron diffraction along with simultaneously measuring the P-C isotherms. From profile analysis of the X-ray diffraction data, lattice parameter and lattice strain in each hydriding state are evaluated. In situ neutron diffraction data provided hydrogen occupation changing with hydrogen content. Significant lattice contract and strain formation were observed in the hydride phase in desorption. This behavior was related with decrease in hydrogen occupation in the hydride phase revealed from the neutron diffraction data.

Owing to the strong neutron absorption of 151Eu, 151Eu free 153EuMnO3-δ has been synthesized to collect the neutron diffraction data for analyzing the magnetic structure of EuMnO3-δ. The obtained neutron diffraction data of 153EuMnO3-δ indicates that the magnetic diffraction peaks corresponding to cAAFM (canted A-type antiferromagnetic) phase can be observed, but the magnetic diffraction peaks corresponding to expected ICAFM (incommensurate antiferromagnetic) phase may be too weak to be observed.
