Abstract   Inaccurate stock management will lead to high and uneconomical storage costs, as there may be a void or surplus of certain products. This will certainly be very dangerous for all business people. The K-Means method is one of the techniques that can be used to assist in designing an effective inventory strategy by utilizing the sales transaction data that is already available in the company. The K-Means algorithm will group the products sold into several large transactional data clusters, so it is expected to help entrepreneurs in designing stock inventory strategies.   Keywords: inventory, k-means, product transaction data, rapidminer, data mining   Abstrak   Manajemen stok yang tidak akurat akan menyebabkan biaya penyimpanan yang tinggi dan tidak ekonomis, karena kemungkinan terjadinya kekosongan atau kelebihan produk tertentu. Hal ini sangat berbahaya bagi para pelaku bisnis. Metode K-Means adalah salah satu teknik yang dapat digunakan untuk membantu dalam merancang strategi persediaan yang efektif dengan memanfaatkan data transaksi penjualan yang telah tersedia di perusahaan. Algoritma K-Means akan mengelompokkan produk yang dijual ke beberapa cluster data transaksi yang umumnya besar, sehingga diharapkan dapat membantu pengusaha dalam merancang strategi persediaan stok.   Kata kunci: data transaksi produk, k-means, persediaan, rapidminer, data mining.

The problem of pricing distribution services is challenging due to the loss in value of product during its distribution process. Four logistics service pricing strategies are constructed in this study, including fixed pricing model, fixed pricing model with time constraints, dynamic pricing model, and dynamic pricing model with time constraints in combination with factors, such as the distribution time, customer satisfaction, optimal pricing, etc. By analyzing the relationship between optimal pricing and key parameters (such as the value of the decay index, the satisfaction of consumers, dispatch time, and the storage cost of the commodity), it is found that the larger the value of the attenuation coefficient, the easier the perishable goods become spoilage, which leads to lower distribution prices and impacts consumer satisfaction. Moreover, the analysis of the average profit of the logistics service providers in these four pricing models shows that the average profit in the dynamic pricing model with time constraints is better. Finally, a numerical experiment is given to support the findings.

Cross-dock is defined as the practice of unloading goods from incoming vehicles and loading them directly into outbound vehicles. Cross-docking can simplify supply chains and help them to deliver goods to the market more swiftly and efficiently by removing or minimizing warehousing costs, space requirements, and use of inventory. Regarding the lifetime of perishable goods, their routing and scheduling in the cross-dock and transportation are of great importance. This study aims to analyze the scheduling and routing of cross-dock and transportation by System Dynamics (SD) modeling to design a reverse logistics network for the perishable goods. For this purpose, the relations between the selected variables are first specified, followed by assessing and examining the proposed model. Finally, four scenarios are developed to determine the optimal values of decision variables. The results indicate the most influencing factors on reaching the optimal status is the minimum distance between the cross-dock and destination, rather than increasing the number of manufactories.

PurposeFinding a rational approach to maintain a freshness of foods and perishable goods and saving their intrinsic attributes during a distribution of these products is one of the main issues for distribution and logistics companies. This paper aims to provide a framework for distribution of perishable goods which can be applied for real life situations.Design/methodology/approachThis paper proposes a novel mathematical model for transportation inventory location routing problem. In addition, the paper addresses the impact of perishable goods age on the demand of final customers. The model is optimally solved for small- and medium-scale problems. Moreover, regarding to NP-hard nature of the proposed model, two simple and one hybrid metaheuristic algorithms are developed to cope with the complexity of problem in large scale problems.FindingsNumerical examples with different scenarios and sensitivity analysis are conducted to investigate the performance of proposed algorithms and impacts of important parameters on optimal solutions. The results show the acceptable performance of proposed algorithms.Originality/valueThe authors formulate a novel mathematical model which can be applicable in perishable goods distribution systems In this regard, the authors consider lost sale which is proportional to age of products. A new hybrid approach is applied to tackle the problem and the results show the rational performance of the algorithm.
