The frequent terrorist attacks in subways has dramatically increased the necessity and importance of security check systems (SCSs). The implementation of a SCS in China has successfully eliminated lots of potential safety hazards. However, the excessive waiting time due to the SCS is also an issue. SCS efficiency is greatly affected by the length of the conveyer belt of the X-ray machine (CBXM). A scheme for optimizing the CBXM length to accommodate different passenger flows is proposed in this paper. A modeling framework is developed for associating the CBXM length with the queuing waiting time based on a M/M/1/N queuing model. The optimal scheme of CBXM length calculated from the model demonstrates that the passenger queuing time is saved by 15.7%, 16.0%, and 23.3% with the passenger arrival rate of 4000, 5000, and 6000, respectively, greatly reducing queuing crowdedness. The scheme can be used to select X-ray machines for subway stations by their passenger arrival rates. In addition, the findings of this paper could be a crucial supplement and perfect the design code of subway SCSs.

In this paper, we have established a composite queuing network model on the basis of the queuing theory and combining with the current security system of the airport. We have made division of the whole security system into different processes which include ID check process, x-ray scanning process, and millimeter scanning process, and find out the unit of security system according to the proportion of different security lanes, what’s more, these processes were distinguished into different kinds of queuing system, and then, we established the queuing network using these different queuing model into the unit. We applied the method of computer simulation to analyze the bottleneck, and we find that ID check process in pre-check system is unstable based on the current proportion of pre-check lane. Meanwhile, we optimized the number of each unit using the system design model and prove the effectiveness by computer simulation, then, we optimized the service rate of the baggage and body screening in pre-check lane follow the above process. Finally, we further discussed development direction of this model.

The authorities guarantee the safety of passengers during air travel by strict ground security measures. All of these measures are restrictive and can affect the health status of both healthy and ill travelers. Patients who are in critical condition or confined to a stretcher and have to be repatriated by stretcher on a regular flight, must pass the airport security check as well. But the developers of security system should take into account the medical safety of patients during the procedure. The relevant medical principles are painfully missing not only in Hungary, but unfortunately also at most international airports. On the basis of principles reviewed in the present publication, an unambiguous, professionally reconciled regulation is necessary that would serve as a guideline for airport management and authorities, as well as for the involved medical personnel. Although setting principles into practice requires a different solution at each airport, yet, passenger safety and patient safety have to be harmonized as soon as possible. Orv.
