One of the most famous and promising shale formations in Russia is the Bazhenov formation. The ambiguity of ideas about its geological features, caused by the complex, heterogeneous structure of the strata, attracts the attention of many researchers. In this work, the Bazhenov formation is singled out in conjunction with its stratigraphic counterparts in the Bazhenov high-carbon formation (BVCHF). In this were considered the main characteristics of its allotment and distribution over the area, as well as the geological structure. Being an unconventional reservoir of hydrocarbons, BVCHF has properties of a petroleum-bearing rock, one of the main characteristics of which is organic matter, its type and maturity. The paper presents the results of the study of organic matter by various methods at the micro level, as well as their integration with larger-scale studies. The need for detailed consideration of the organic matter of the BVCHF is justified by the fact that it has a mixed composition and, as a consequence, a different degree of transformation and spatial distribution.

Replenishment of oil reserves requires searching, exploration and production of new unconventional objects. Among these objects is Domanik formation, which is widespread in the Volga-Ural basin. The Domanic high-carbon formation is presented by thin-layered carbonate-siliceous rocks with a high content of organic matter, capable of both producing hydrocarbons with its own oil and gas potential, and concentraring them in reservoirs [Stupakova et al., 2017]. Study of lithological composition of rocks help to obtain information about the nature of hydrocarbon accumulations and understand possibilities of estracting hydrocarbon of them. The lithological and geochemical characteristics of rocks are an integral part of the study such types of deposits.

The analysis of Bazhenov high-carbon formation organic matter catagenesis zonal distribution in connection with its own reservoir’s organic matter porosity made in this work. Realized research helped to articulate regional prospecting criteria for oil deposits in Bazhenov’s formation unconventional reservoir with organic porosity.

A different approach to the typing of the section of the Bazhenov Formation is presented – the identification of the reference section of the Bazhenov high-carbon formation (BHCF). Six packs were distinguished according to lithological and paleontological features, and their general characteristics were given. Also, indicators of the formation conditions are described, that allow to reconstruct the history and evolution of the basin, e. g. tuff and bone-bed horizons, alginate-rich layers, radiolarite layers, spicular limestones and limestones with a «con-in-con» texture, intensely pyritized layers, packs with an abundance of bivalves. Two types of sedimentation models are formed and described: island and intra-basin upland. On the basis of new data and identified features of the paleogeography of the Bazhenov Sea, a general model of the formation of BHCF deposits in the development zone of the Bazhenov and Tutleim formations is proposed.

AbstractBiostratigraphic constraints for the sedimentary cover of the ophiolites preserved in Armenia are of key importance for the palaeogeographic and geodynamic reconstruction of the greater area between Eurasia and the South-Armenian block, which is a micro-continent of Gondwanian origin. We present here radiolarian data obtained from radiolarites that are intercalated in a sequence of mafic volcanic rocks on the northern flank of the Dali valley (east of Lake Sevan), which is considered to be part of the Sevan ophiolite. Mafic sills and dykes with well-preserved igneous textures are probably part of the same sequence. The pseudomorphosis of primary phases indicates that the igneous rocks are strongly affected by alteration in the greenschist facies condition. The plagiogranites that are present in this locality appear to be intrusive into the mafic sequence. The radiolarian assemblages extracted from radiolarian cherts intercalated in the mafic volcanic rocks are dated as latest Tithonian-Late Valanginian; they contain metric rounded blocks of oolitic limestones with crinoid fragments, suggesting that these shallow water limestones slid during the Jurassic/Cretaceous transition into a rugged oceanic floor in which radiolarian ooze accumulated.
