Bakery waste-egg shell extract was tested for its inhibitory effect towards mild steel in0.5 M H2SO4 solution. The corrosion behavior of the egg shell extract on mild steel (MS)was investigated using weight loss experiments, polarization and impedance measurements.It was found that the egg shell extract has good inhibitive action, showing 97.8% efficiency.Inhibition efficiency increased with increasing concentrations of the egg shell extract.Temperature studies were conducted to evaluate the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters.The corrosion inhibition takes place via monolayer type of adsorption on MS surface.Experimental results are fitted into various adsorption isotherms. Tafel polarization studiesrevealed the mixed mode of inhibition of the egg shell extract. Electrochemical impedanceresults also confirmed the inhibitive nature of the egg shell extract. The corrosion inhibition of mild steel by 7-(ethylthiobenzimidazolyl) theophylline (7-ETBT) in 1 M HCl medium was investigated through weight loss and Tafel polarization techniques within a temperature range of 298 to 318 K. The inhibition efficiency depends on the concen­tration of 7-ETBT and reaction system temperature. The maximum inhibition efficiency values of 90.73 and 87.06 %, respectively, were estimated using both weight loss and Tafel polarization techniques at 298 K. The results suggest spontaneous and predominant physical adsorption of 7-ETBT on the metal surface which obeys Langmuir isotherm model. Furthermore, Tafel polarization method revealed that 7-ETBT is a mixed-type inhibitor. Po­tentiodynamic polarization results are in accordance with weight loss data to a good extent.

The corrosion inhibition effect of 3-hydroxyflavone was studied on mild steel in 1 M hydrochloric acid ( HCl ). The anticorrosive effect was evaluated by weight loss and electrochemical methods which include Tafel polarization and AC impedance studies at 300 K. In weight loss method, the inhibition efficiency increased with increase in inhibitor concentration, and decreased with increase in temperature and immersion time, and acid concentration. The inhibitor showed maximum efficiency of 91% at 4 × 10-4 M concentration in 1 M hydrochloric acid. The Tafel polarization study showed that the inhibitor behaves likely as cathodic type. The corrosion inhibition effect measured by weight loss method and electrochemical studies was in good agreement with each other. The surface analysis was done by using scanning electron microscope (SEM). Several adsorption isotherms are assessed to study the adsorption behavior of the inhibitor on the mild steel surface. The negative value of ΔG ads indicates the spontaneous adsorption of the inhibitor on mild steel surface.

In the present study, the corrosion inhibition effect of Spilanthes acmella aqueous leaves extract (SA-LE) on mild steel was investigated in 1.0 M HCl solution at different temperature using weight loss, Tafel polarization, linear polarization resistance (LPR), and electrochemical impedance (EIS) measurements. Adsorption of inhibitor on the surface of the mild steel obeyed both Langmuir and Temkin adsorption isotherms. The thermodynamic and kinetic parameters were also calculated to determine the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with an increase in the inhibitor concentration i.e., Spilanthes acmella aqueous leaves extract, however, the inhibition efficiency decreased with an increase in the temperature. The phytochemical constituents with functional groups including electronegative hetero atoms such as N, O, and S in the extract adsorbed on the metal surface are found responsible for the effective performance of the inhibitor, which was confirmed by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and ultraviolet–visible spectroscopic (UV-Vis) studies. Protective film formation against corrosion was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and contact angle studies. The result shows that the leaves extract acts as corrosion inhibitor and is able to promote surface protection by blocking active sites on the metal.

Corrosion behavior of mild steel in acidic medium usingAdhatoda Vasica(AV) extract was investigated. The inhibitive effective ofAdhatoda Vasicaon the corrosion of mild steel in different acidic medium has been studied by weight loss and polarization methods. The Ecorrvalues are shifted slightly towards negative side in presence of inhibitors which indicate the inhibitors inhibit the corrosion of mild steel in acids solution by controlling both anodic and cathodic reactions due to the blocking of active sites on the metal surface. It is evident that inhibitors bring about considerable polarization of the cathode as well as anode. It was, therefore, inferred that the inhibitive action is of mixed type.

The corrosion inhibition behaviour of four selected Mannich bases compounds,namely 3-((N-methyl,N-phenyl)-methyl)2,4-Acetylacetone(MPMAA),3-((N-phenyl)-methyl) 2,4-Acetylacetone (PMAA),3-((N, N-diethyl)-methyl) 2, 4-Acetylacetone(DMAA) and 3-((N, N-methyl)-methyl) 2, 4-Acetylacetone (MMAA) as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in 1M HCl solutions. Tafel polarization methods were performed to determine the corrosion parameters and inhibition efficiencies. Experimental results showed that PMAA is an excellent inhibitor for mild steel corrosion in 1M HCl solutions; showing a maximum efficiency 92.3% at concentration of 40mg/L. Polarization studies showed that the Mannich bases compounds can be regarded as mixed-type inhibitors and the inhibition efficiency of the four inhibitors followed the order PMAA > MPMAA > DMAA > MMAA. Then scanning electron microscope (SEM)techniques were also employed to examine the mechanism of corrosion inhibition property.

Pectin-g-polyacrylamide (denoted as Pec-g-PAAm) and pectin-g-polyacrylic acid (denoted as Pec-g-PAA) were synthesized using pectin, acrylamide, and acrylic acid as starting materials. The grafted polymers were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analyser (TGA), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The corrosion inhibition behaviour of the grafted polymers on mild steel in 3.5% NaCl was evaluated electrochemically through Tafel polarization and impedance studies. The corrosion inhibition performance of both the polymers was found to be around 85%.

Three piperidin-4-one oxime derivatives viz. 3,5-dimethyl-2,6-diphenyl-piperidin-4-one oxime (DDPO), 3-ethyl-2,6-diphenyl-piperidin-4-one oxime (EDPO), and 1-methyl-3-isopropyl-2, 6-diphenyl-piperidin-4-one oxime (MIDPO) were synthesized. Corrosion inhibiting ability of these compounds in 1 M HCl was studied using weight loss study, potentiodynamic polarization measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, XRD and SEM with EDS measurements. Weight loss studies revealed that all the three oximes are good corrosion inhibitors. The order of inhibiting ability of these compounds is as follows: DDPO > EDPO > MINDO. Results of the polarization measurement showed that these inhibitors do not alter the mechanism of either hydrogen evolution or mild steel dissolution reaction, proving the mixed mode of inhibition. At constant acid concentration, increase of inhibitor concentration increased the charge transfer resistance (R ct ), complimented with decrease of double layer capacitance (C dl ), thereby indicating the increase of percentage inhibition efficiency. XRD and SEM with EDS analysis provided strong proof for the existence of inhibitor film over the mild steel surface.
