Abstract AISI Type A7 is an air-hardening tool and die steel designed for extremely high resistance to abrasion. Its high carbon and high vanadium contribute to its high abrasion resistance; however, it should be restricted to applications where toughness is not a prime consideration. It can be austenitized, air cooled and tempered to very high hardness (as high as Rockwell C 65).
