A new eastern-palaearctic monotypic genus of the gelechioid moths, Paralypusa gen. nov., is established for the Chinese species Paralypusa chinensis (Lvovsky, 2010), comb. nov. This genus is considered closely related to Lypusa Zeller, 1852 on the base of several synapomorphies. However Paralypusa also shares some features with the genera Pseudatemelia Rebel, 1910 and Amphisbatis Zeller, 1870. Its transitional state confirms the belonging of all the aforementioned genera to one family and synonymy of the Lypusidae Herrich-Schäffer, 1857 and Amphisbatidae Spuler, 1910 (Nieukerken et al., 2011).

A new monotypic genus, Ivoria taiensis gen. nov., sp. nov. (Mesostigmata: Uropodina: Uropodinychidae) is described on the basis of seven females collected in soil samples from Ivory Coast. The new genus has large and robust chelicerae, but it differs from the other Uropodina genera having similar chelicerae in several characters, which are presented in a comparative table. The new genus is placed in the family Urodinychidae based on its long setae h1, chelicerae with an internal sclerotized node, fixed digit of chelicerae apically smooth and devoid of apical processes, corniculi smooth.

Asteraceae is the family with the highest species number in the rocky fields (campos rupestres) of the Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil. On the basis of several collections from this area, we are proposing a new genus of Asteraceae based on morphology and phylogeny, to accommodate a species newly described here. Lapidia apicifolia is a loosely ramified shrub 2–4 m high, stem tomentose, leaves opposite-decussate, laminae conduplicate, petiolate, receptacle flat, epaleaceous, glabrous, and pappus of bristles fused at base, irregular in length, fringed and purplish. In a phylogenetic analysis using sequence data from ITS and trnL-trnF of selected members of Eupatorieae, Lapidia is indicated as sister group of a highly supported clade with Morithamnus, Bahianthus and Catolesia. This group is composed by loosely branched shrubs, most with leaves that are lax, stems, leaves and involucral bracts that are viscid (Bahianthus and Morithamnus) and, if not, trichomes (tomentose indumentum) are developed (Lapidia), to protect against both solar radiation and loss of water. A description, illustrations, and a discussion about related and sympatric genera are presented.

ABSTRACTResinicium, belonging to Hymenochaetales, Agaricomycetes, is a worldwide genus of corticioid wood-inhabiting fungi. To improve the knowledge of species diversity within the Hymenochaetales, two dozen specimens from Asia-Pacific preliminarily identified to be members of Resinicium sensu lato were carefully studied from morphological and phylogenetic perspectives. From these specimens, a new monotypic genus Skvortzoviella, and five new species, viz. Resinicium austroasianum, R. lateastrocystidium, Skvortzovia dabieshanensis, S. qilianensis and Skvortzoviella lenis are described; moreover, a new basal lineage of Resinicium represented by a Vietnam specimen and three Chinese specimens of S. pinicola are identified. The six newly proposed taxa are morphologically compared with related genera and species, while the family positions of Resinicium, Skvortzovia, and Skvortzoviella within the Hymenochaetales are still ambiguous. In addition, the ancestral geographic origin of Resinicium, even though inconclusive, is now thought to be Asia-Pacific instead of tropical America as previously assumed.

Fenghwaia, a new monotypic genus, along with the new species Fenghwaia gardeniicarpa, is described from Guangdong Province, China. The combined features of inferior ovary, cylindrical drupaceous fruits and orbicular and dorsiventrally-compressed seeds with an elongate and pronounced basal appendage make the new genus significantly different from other genera of the family. In addition, its pollen morphology also showed great similarity to other species of this stenopalynous family. The molecular phylogenetic analysis, based on nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and plastid trnL-F intron spacer (trnL-F) DNA sequence data from the new genus and the other 375 species representing 58 genera of Rhamnaceae, indicates that Fenghwaia is nested within the ‘rhamnoid’ group and sister to the tribe Rhamneae and then both sister to the tribe Maesopsideae. A taxonomic classification key to the ‘rhamnoid’ group is provided, based on morphological characters. A global conservation assessment is also performed and classifies Fenghwaia gardeniicarpa as Near Threatened (NT).

The significant taxonomic characters of the millipede family Striariidae Bollman, 1888 are discussed. The monotypic genus Vaferaria Causey, 1958 is synonymized under Amplaria Chamberlin, 1941, giving the new combination Amplaria imberbis (Loomis, 1936). The genera Striaria Bollman, 1888 and Amplaria are assigned to the subfamily Striariinae. A new subfamily, Trisariinae, is established that presently includes only Trisaria new genus, with three new species: Trisaria rex, T. olympia and T. washingtonensis. The new subfamily, genus, and species are endemic to western Washington state, USA.

The genus Toccolosida Walker, 1863 is a member of the Pyralini tribe of the subfamily Pyralinae in the family Pyralidae. It was described as a monotypic genus for Toccolosida rubriceps Walker, 1863 from Sikkim. Snellen (1890, 1892) described two additional species of Toccolosida, T. pallifrons Snellen, 1890 from Sikkim and T. bilinealis Snellen, 1892 from Indonesia and Java. Hampson (1896) erected a new genus Proteinia Hampson, 1896 for T. pallifrons. In 1899, Snellen described another species, T. subolivalis Snellen, 1899 from Indonesia, Sumatra and Padang. Robinson et al. (1994) included two species, T. rubriceps and T. bilinealis, in their account on South East Asian moths and stated that Toccolosida contains 8+ [described as well as undescribed] species from the Indo-Australian region and 6+ species from South East Asia. However, at present the valid Toccolosida species are only three: T. rubriceps, T. bilinealis and T. subolivalis, whereas pallifrons is currently placed in Proteinia (Nuss et al. 2003–2019; pers. comm. Dr. Richard Mally, University Museum of Bergen, Natural History Collections, Bergen, Norway).

A new monotypic genus, Tamijia (Zingiberaceae), and its species T. flagellaris are described from Sarawak, Borneo. T. flagellaris is quite unique with the lateral staminodes connate to the labellum, the plane of distichy of the leaf shoot transverse to the rhizome, long trailing inflorescences and ovary unilocular with parietal placentation. Although the species is placed in Alpineae based on the plane of distichy, it is quite distinctive from most of the species in the tribe in some other characters, and is important in considering the current system of tribes and genera of the family.

The Neotropical biodiversity of the cryptic and tiny minute litter bugs in the family Schizopteridae—although thought to be the best documented tropical fauna of Schizopteridae—is still poorly known. Sixteen species of Schizopteridae have been described from Costa Rica, 13 of which during the past few years, and the last new genus of Schizopteridae from that country was described more than half a century ago. We here describe and document a new monotypic genus of Schizopteridae from Costa Rica, Meganannus n. gen. The new genus belongs to the “Ogeriinae” + Schizopterinae lineage of Schizopteridae and stands out among other litter bugs by the large body size, among other features. We provide habitus photographs and document morphological details using scanning electron, confocal, and light compound microscopic images. A map and measurements are also produced. An illustrated identification key to genus groups and/or genera of Neotropical Schizopteridae including this new genus is presented.

Muriphaeosphaeria galatellae was collected from Galatella villosa in Russia and is introduced as a novel monotypic genus and species in the family Phaeosphaeriaceae (Pleosporales). Muriphaeosphaeria is distinct from other genera of the family Phaeosphaeriaceae by its unique suite of characters such as, superficial ascomata with an ascomatal wall comprising thin-walled brown cells, cellular pseudoparaphyses, muriform ascospores; and conidiomata with a thick hyaline inner wall layer producing cylindrical to subclavate, 1−3-transversely septate, brown conidia. The asexual morph of M. galatellae developed in cultures when grown on sterilized pine needles and bamboo pieces. A phylogenetic analysis based on combined LSU, SSU and ITS sequence data showed that M. galatellae forms a distinct lineage in Phaeosphaeriaceae. The new genus and species are introduced and compared with other taxa in the family.
