The purpose of this study is to identify the key success factors that affect Thai entrepreneurial competitiveness in logistics business operations. Four main parameters and twelve variables were first identified from both a literature review and observations from the Thai context, and were then explored. The methodology of this research began with a literature review. Fifty entrepreneurs in the logistics sector then filled out questionnaires, which were analyzed using a mean and standard deviation (SD) model. Results showed that the responses were in the agreed level in which the mean=2.89 and SD=0.35. The mean of the variable Thailand Infrastructure is still incomplete, was 2.94. The mean of Fuel Prices still Continuously Increase, was 2.90; and the mean of Thai Entrepreneurs Mainly Use Road Transportation was 2.84. Responses showed the mean of the variable Thai Entrepreneurs Have Too Little Understanding of Effective Transportation System, was 3.04. The mean of Thai Entrepreneurs Lack Knowledge and Skills about Just-in-Time Concept, was 2.79; and the mean of the Logistics Management is Separately Managed, the Collaboration in each Department is Low, was 2.58. The mean of Domestic Laws and Regulations are not Competitive was 3.03. The mean of Cross-border Trade and Regulations need to be revamped, was 2.94; and the mean of International Transportation Rules must be changed, was 2.73. The mean of Thai Logistics Workforce Lacks Logistics Management Skills and Experience, was 3.45. The mean of Thai Logistics Workforce Productivity is Lower than Entrepreneurs’ Expectations, was 2.97 and the mean of English Proficiency of Thai Logistics Workforce is Low, was 2.73. Thai entrepreneurs need to improve their competitiveness by focusing on the key factors that affect logistics business success, such as figuring out how to cut operational management costs, improve ineffective inventory management and improve the quality of workforce skills and knowledge. Transportation costs are still high, and since these costs are influenced by Government policies, Thai entrepreneurs need the Government to establish plans for infrastructure investment, such as by focusing on rail transportation rather than relying on roads. This would help entrepreneurs to enhance their competitiveness and provide excellent customer service. Effective inventory management requires both upstream and downstream development because inventory management involves more than just one function, such as the purchasing department or workin-process responsibilities, so all functions should work together. Inventory management success requires good collaboration with suppliers, transportation providers, distributors, and customers.

US manufacturing is struggling with both a productivity and job quality challenge. These challenges are interconnected, reinforcing the need for increased coordination of economic and workforce development efforts. This article outlines the evaluation findings of a novel business-facing initiative called the Genesis Movement, to understand its role in reshaping the workforce experience within small- and medium-sized manufacturing businesses in Chicago, Illinois. Spearheaded in 2014 by the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center (IMEC), Genesis starts with the premise that workforce practices are central to business operations, productivity, and competitiveness—and therefore, manufacturing extension services need to promote improvements to job quality in support of long-term business success. This integrated approach represents a form of “inclusive innovation,” expanding the capacities of firms and workers to adapt in a competitive environment where pressures to maintain high quality while reducing costs are ever-present. Firms that participate in Genesis learn to adopt an inclusive organizational culture, using front-line worker engagement, skills training, and job quality improvements to drive performance and process innovation. As such, Genesis offers transferable lessons that could be leveraged by other manufacturing-supporting organizations to benefit their industry clients and the workers they employ.

Abstract Timely access to information and business transparency make the foundation for business success. Companies present their financial position and financial performance through the financial statements. As a financial information is not the only relevant factor of business value creation, presentation of non-financial information brings added value to different stakeholders. For the purpose of more transparent business operations and international comparability of the presented data, it is especially important that reports are compiled according to internationally accepted rules. The paper has sought to investigate whether Croatian companies recognize benefits of integrated reporting. The aim of the paper was to identify whether and to what extent largest companies in Croatia present the information regarding their intellectual capital, principle customers, business partners, environmental considerations, future plans, investments, market conditions, and further expectations of business development. Based on the research results, suggestions for improvement of the non-financial reporting in Croatia have been given.

The business success of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) increasingly relies on the adoption of various technological innovations. For today’s unpredictable business operations, business intelligence systems (BISs) represent one of the most prominent tools with a significant impact on business performance. However, different internal and external risks may influence BIS adoption. The goal of this paper is to investigate the risks that impact BIS adoption in SMEs, using the Technology, Organization, and Environment (TOE) framework. For that purpose, we develop the logistic regression model, using data collected by a questionnaire survey using a sample of 100 Croatian SMEs. The results indicate the applicability of the TOE theoretical framework for examining BIS adoption in SMEs. Given the results obtained, the sampled SMEs should take into account the internal risks related to the organizational dimension and external risks related to the environmental dimension. Our research did not reveal the significant impact of technological risks that encompass characteristics of considered technological innovation related to the technology dimension.

Abstract The issue of improving the efficiency of business operations is of particular importance in the conditions of modern business environment. For managers, the big challenge is how to achieve and to maintain, not to mention how to improve efficiency in a highly heterogeneous, complex, uncertain and unpredictable business environment. Significant sources of enterprise efficiency in a modern business environment are enterprise restructuring, business activities, as well an integrated approach to cost management, which is becoming an increasingly important determinant of business success and a source of competitive advantage. The paper provides an overview of theoretical and empirical research of the effects of certain sources on the performance of the enterprise. The conclusion is that only the complementary exploitation of all sources contributes to improving the efficiency of the enterprise in the long run.

We explored nuanced gender perceptions regarding the influences that business capabilities may have on tourism-related business operations in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. We used structured questionnaire to collect data from 150 tourism-related entrepreneurs and managers. This study made no conclusive finding that gender does play a role with regard to differentiating business success or performance, as reported in some literature. However, marketing capability is the main factor that influence business performance.
