The advancement of the Internet has enabled firms including micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in Brunei Darussalam (Brunei) to adopt e-commerce. E-commerce has helped firms to easily buy and sell their products or services online. The advancement of the Internet and e-commerce has brought many benefits to the firms especially the MSMEs as it could help to reduce cost, enhance the firm's relationship with their customers and/or suppliers and increase business opportunities. To stay competitive, MSMEs must be aware of the potential benefits that e-commerce could bring. Moreover, before the firms have decided to adopt e-commerce, there are several factors that they should consider. This study aims to find out the factors that could affect the MSMEs' decision to adopt e-commerce by applying the technology-organizational-environmental (TOE) framework.

This study aims to evaluate the factors that influence the use of social media in micro, small and medium enterprises. By using a mixed qualitative and quantitative approach, the study examines the influence of factors based on the TOE (Technology-Organization-Environment) Framework theory. The data collection process was carried out by means of interviews and questionnaires distributed online. From the quantitative analysis conducted on 100 samples using multiple linear regression techniques, it is known simultaneously that the factors in the context of the TOE Framework have a significant effect on the use of social media in MSMEs. In the context of technology, the factors that have a significant effect on the use of social media are the interactivity of social media and the suitability of the technology that has been previously owned. Data analysis was carried out using SPSS 25. The results of the study concluded that the suitability factor, inter-activity and entrepreneurial orientation had a significant effect on the use of social media in MSMEs.

Most micro-business managers in Nigeria do not see the adoption of digital marketing technology (DMT) as vital for business. Many consider it as a precondition to support managerial or operational activities, not as a tactical and/or strategic tool. Although most studies focused on large organisations, the outcome of such research may not be appropriate to micro-businesses. This is informed by the negligence of micro-businesses’ idiosyncrasies and their thought of digitalization as a precondition for managerial activities without considering the value small businesses attached to these devices in terms of aiding the use as strategic tools. This renders micro-businesses’ digitalization an under-reflected phenomenon. Yet, studies spend less on examining the factors that specifically stimulate the value micro-businesses attach to these applications, leading to constant adoption and usage. Hence, there is a need for a thorough exploration of the factors that shape the value of digital marketing applications in micro-businesses in Nigeria. The study is qualitative in nature and interviews (unstructured and semi-structured) were carried out with 26 micro-businesses which was drawn purposefully from the online database and underpinned by Technology, Organisation and Environment (TOE) framework. The study revealed eleven (11) critical success factors stimulating value micro-businesses attribute to digital marketing technology (DMT) adoption. These factors include long-term functional capacity, integration capacity, expansion capacity which are related to technology context. Collective capability, collaborative experience are linked to the organisation context while adaptive training, service delivery, customer fulfilment are linked to environmental context. The study also unveiled expectancy context which is linked to budget, growth and profitability and aid in the extension of the TOE framework. This study will be of importance to academics and practitioners because it provides further awareness into DMT adoption framework, factors critical to the DMT adoption and may assist in reducing the number of resources spent in search of information aimed at helping DMT adoption by micro-businesses.

This article aims to identify and analyse the factors that impact the adoption of intelligent agent technology (IAT) in the food supply chain (FSC). The research was conducted based on 329 respondents from various hotels and the theoretical framework adopted in this study, that is, technological, organizational and environmental (TOE) framework. The findings indicated that multiple factors in TOE contribute significantly to the adoption of IAT. We have validated the proposed framework by structural equation modelling utilizing AMOS 22.0. This research offers a new and vital paradigm for adopting this innovation in the FSC, thereby increasing the overall efficiency of a hotel. The proposed TOE framework has identified several factors like relative advantage, reliability, complexity, cost, innovation adoption, top management support, skilled employees, IT awareness, environmental uncertainty, competitive pressure, information intensity and supplier’s pressure, which helps in the adoption process of IAT in the FSC. It also provides a foundation for future research and significant insights to adopt this new technology in the hotel industry.

In developing countries, particularly South Asia, there is scarce research on corporate governance and sustainability reporting disclosure. This study considers several insightful theories, including Stakeholder Theory, Agency Theory, and the TOE Framework, to understand the relationships and drivers of sustainability reporting. The study examines Indonesian Islamic corporates using data from the ISSI (Indonesia Shariah Stock Index). We gathered annual reports and sustainability reports from the ISSI database for the year 2019. The study investigates how human governance (HG), Islamic corporate governance (ICG), and information technology usage (ITU) are related to sustainability reporting disclosure (SR). The findings showed that the sustainability reporting disclosure was significantly influenced by human governance and Islamic corporate governance with firm size and leverage. Furthermore, the research showed that profitability was not significantly related to sustainability reporting disclosure, that Islamic corporate governance had a significant negative influence on SR, and that IT usage was only significant when human governance was not present. Finally, the results showed that human governance is the main driver of sustainability reporting disclosure. Therefore, we conclude that human governance is the best predictor for sustainability reporting disclosure.

Purpose The contribution of this study aims to twofold: First, it provides an overview of the current state of research on cyberattacks on Chinese supply chains (SCs). Second, it offers a look at the Chinese Government’s approach to fighting cyberattacks on Chinese SCs and its calls for global governance. Design/methodology/approach A comprehensive literature review was conducted on Clarivate Analytics’ Web of Science, in Social Sciences Citation Index journals, Scopus and Google Scholar, published between 2010–2021. A systematic review of practitioner literature was also conducted. Findings Chinese SCs have become a matter of national security, especially in the era of cyber warfare. The risks to SC have been outlined. Cybersecurity regulations are increasing as China aims to build a robust environment for cyberspace development. Using the Technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework, the results show that the top five factors influencing the adoption process in firms are as follows: relative advantage and technological readiness (Technology context); top management support and firm size (Organization context) and government policy and regulations (Environment context). Research limitations/implications This review focuses on cyberattacks on Chinese SCs and great care was taken when selecting search terms. However, the author acknowledges that the choice of databases/terms may have excluded a few articles on cyberattacks from this review. Practical implications This review provides managerial insights for SC practitioners into how cyberattacks have the potential to disrupt the global SC network. Originality/value Past researchers proposed a taxonomic approach to evaluate progress with SC integration into Industry 4.0; in contrast, this study is one of the first steps toward an enhanced understanding of cyberattacks on Chinese SCs and their contribution to the global SC network using the TOE framework.

The purpose of this study was to examine the combinations of factors driving the digital economy and their configurational pathways, based on the Technology–Organization–Environment (TOE) framework. Using data on 31 Chinese provinces, the study integrated the TOE framework with Fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) to examine the digital economy. The results indicate that (a) firms’ digital competence is a necessary condition for the development of the digital economy; (b) four pathways drive high levels of digital economic development and three pathways lead to low levels of digital economic development; and (c) these pathways indicate asymmetry between high and low levels of digital economic development. The findings enhance understanding of the complex interactions of multiple factors driving the digital economy. They also yield policy recommendations for the development of the digital economy.
