A simple and efficient method for the synthesis of derivatives of cyclopent-2-en-1-one is presented. Aromatic aldehydes reacted with aliphatic ketones in the presence of thionyl chloride in anhydrous ethanol to give seven derivatives of 2-cyclopenten-1-one in one step with reasonable yields. The structures of the products were established.

AbstractA new, convenient, and efficient method for the synthesis of 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-5,10-diones is developed starting from phthalhydrazide, aromatic aldehydes, and malononitrile using 4-N,N-dimethylaminopyridin as catalyst. This modified route provides much higher yields and a simple work-up procedure of products. Also this methodology is of interest due to the use of ethanol as a solvent without use of any toxic metals as catalyst, thus minimizing the cost, the operational hazards, and environmental pollution.

A rapid, clean, and highly efficient method for synthesis of dihydropyrano[3,2-c]chromene derivatives by one-pot, three-component condensation of aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile, and 4-hydroxycoumarin using DABCO as catalyst in solvent-free neat conditions is described. The present method has the advantages of mild reaction conditions, short reaction times, easy isolation of products, and excellent yields.

Abstract:: An efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of new pyrano[3,2-c] and pyrano[3,2-a]carbazole de-rivatives via a three component reaction of 4-hydroxycarbazole or 2-hydroxycarbazole, isocyanides, and dialkylacetylenedi-carboxylates. Noteworthy features of this protocol include mild reaction conditions, catalyst-free, high atom-economy and high yields.
