This study examines the innovation of learning strategies through Cooperative Learning by using Role-based Small Group Discussion. The purpose of this study is to reveal indicators that influence the success of learning through cooperative learning using Role-based Small Group Discussion. This study uses a qualitative method with the implementation of structured interviews and questionnaires, the use of this data collection method is carried out to reveal the views of the participants honestly. Respondents who became participants were students who came from public schools without any experience in learning Arabic. The results obtained were found indicators in the use of Role-based Small Group Discussion, namely attitudes, abilities, and usefulness of the method.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether the small group discussion method via breakout room zoom may boost student individual engagement in order for them to be more active and confident in learning speaking. This research study used a qualitative method with applied video analysis and questioners' perceptions of students as instruments. The findings found 17 active participants in the observation speaking class and 35 participants preferred small group discussions using the breakout room zoom application, with the majority preferring small group discussions because it helped them to be more active and confident. This method can also boost their confidence for more active participation for individual speaking in class, and they believe that small group discussions via breakout room zoom are the most effective way to deal with a pandemic.

Communication between social learners can make a group collectively “wiser” than any individual, but conformist tendencies can also distort collective judgment. We asked whether intuitions about when communication is likely to improve or distort collective judgment could allow social learners take advantage of the benefits of communication while minimizing the risks. In three experiments (n=360), 7- to 10-year old children and adults decided whether to refer a question to a small group for discussion or “crowdsource” independent judgments from individual advisors. For problems which could be conclusively solved through “demonstrable” analytic or physical reasoning, all ages preferred to consult the group, even compared to a crowd ten times as large — consistent with past research suggesting that groups regularly outperform even their best members for reasoning problems. In contrast, we observed a consistent developmental shift towards crowdsourcing independent judgments when reasoning by itself was insufficient to conclusively answer a question. Results suggest sophisticated intuitions about the nature of social influence and collective intelligence may guide our social learning strategies from early in development.

The active learning approach that is carried out in the subject of Student Development in the Faculty of Islamic Sciences majoring in PAI at the Islamic University of Indonesia in the 4th semester, aims to improve student learning activeness with non-monotonous learning strategies. With this learning method, students can actively explore themselves by finding the main ideas in solving a problem, or students can apply what is learned in real life. Several learning methods can be used as alternatives to increase student activity during the learning process, one of them is "Active Learning Methods-Small Group Discussion". This study uses a qualitative descriptive analysis by collecting data through observation and documentation. The results of this research method of active learning with a group discussion or small group discussion can increase learning activeness involving fourth-semester students of class D in the subject of the development of PAI FIAI UII Yogyakarta students in terms of the theories put forward by experts.

Currently the Problem Based Learning (PBL) and Student Centered Learning (SCL) learning models are starting to be applied in universities with the aim of involving students actively in learning, one of which are Medical students of the UNS FK. One method of these learnings is Small Group Discussion (SGD). This study aims to assess the effectiveness of the SGD learning method that has been applied to Medical students of the UNS FK. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The result was found that the SGD learning method that had been applied was still less effective, but it was more effective compared to conventional learning methods. Therefore, it is necessary to make some improvements to this learning method so that it is more effective and the goal can be achieved.
