Kinerja siswa sering digunakan sebagai tolok ukur dan keaktifan siswa sering digunakan sebagai kriteria seberapa baik kinerja siswa secara akademik di sekolah. Dimana dalam penelitian ini akan berusaha mencari tahu apakah keaktifan seorang siswa dapat memprediksi kinerja akademiknya. Data yang digunakan adalah dataset pendidikan yang dikumpulkan menggunakan learning management system (LMS), yang merupakan alat pelacak aktivitas pelajar yang terhubung oleh internet. Data ini memiliki variabel numerik dan kategorikal, sehingga diperlukan algoritma yang tepat untuk mengklasifikasikan data secara akurat dan memastikan validitas data. Dalam penelitian ini, algoritma C.50 digunakan untuk menguji data, di mana data dibagi menjadi data pelatihan sebesar 75% dan pengujian data sebesar 25%. Dan hasil dari data yang diuji, akurasi 71,667% diperoleh.

New pedagogical approaches are required to prepare future professionals. The educational model must be in consonance with the information and communication technologies. They help to improve knowledge dissemination and reduce space and time limitations between teachers and students. They should also motivate students and stimulate communication and collaboration among students, improving the learning process. Currently, the Institute of Exact and Applied Sciences of the Federal University of Ouro Preto (IEAS/UFOP) has no institutionalized tools of information and communication for teaching support. This allows the identification of some problems and difficulties on the educational process, such as absence of a centralized way to provide and access didactic resources, unavailability of a good communication tool between teachers and students, and lack of easy access to academic performance information for self evaluation. This chapter presents the authors' experience in choosing and evaluating a Learning Management System (LMS) to support classroom teaching at the IEAS. The authors investigate how the use of a LMS may improve teaching in the following aspects: (1) availability of didactic resources; (2) class planning and following up; (3) teacher-student communication; (4) monitoring of the academic performance of students during the course; (5) collaboration among students.

Students’ engagement in a traditional classroom setting has been occurring for so long with several traditional tools such as textbooks, lectures, video, and group activities. Nowadays, globally and locally connected classes are the target of advanced education intellects. The Learning Management System (LMS) has become a basic tool for all institutions of advanced education, and the main thrust in web-based learning. The significance of the learning management system is defined by its role in building up instructive and educational development, so it is considered the most significant new tool for e-learning. As per a report by the Educause Research Center of U.S higher education institutions, almost 100% of advanced training institutions have an LMS setup, the LMS is utilized by 85% of faculty members, 56% of faculty use it daily, 83% of undergraduate and postgraduate students use the LMS and 56% say they use it in most or all courses. Learning Management System (LMS) is now not only becoming a critical tool for most higher education institutions but is also being seen as a driving force in online learning. Blackboard Learning Management System is a technologically improved learning platform within the context of the e-learning and aimed to investigate the use of Blackboard for training, learning, and examination purposes. In turn, this study is designed to explore the efficient utilization and evaluation of the students’ academic performance and the use of a Learning Management System (LMS), Blackboard, among academics at Jazan University, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The primary aim of this research is to investigate how the faculty employs the features and communication tools in an online learning management system to facilitate the students in learning practice and to engage them in the material at hand. Through the findings obtained, both the faculty and the administrators are expectedly able to develop the online learning environment more effectively. It is also expected that the findings of this study can be a significant stimulus for other higher learning institutions in the Kingdom and the rest of the world to use the Blackboard for improved academic performance.

Purpose This paper aims to investigate the relationship between the students’ digital activities and their academic performance through two stages. In the first stage, students’ digital activities were studied and clustered based on the attributes of their activity log of learning management system (LMS) data set. In the second stage, the significance of the relationship between these profiles and the associated academic performance was tested statistically. Design/methodology/approach The LMS delivers E-learning courses and keeps track of the students’ activities. Investigating these students’ digital activities became a real challenge. The diversity of students’ involvement in the learning process was proven through the LMS which characterize students’ specific profiles. The Educational Data Mining (EDM) approach was used to discover students’ learning profiles and associated academic performances, where the activity log file exemplified their activities hosted in the LMS. The sample study data is from an undergraduate e-course hosted on the platform of Blackboard LMS offered at a Saudi University during the first semester of the 2019–2020 academic year. The chosen undergraduate course had 25 sections, and the students attending came from science, technology, engineering and math background. Findings Results show three clusters based on the digital activities of the students. The correlation test shows the statistical significance and proves the effect of the student’s profile on his academic performance. The data analysis shows that students with different profiles can still get similar academic performance using LMS. Originality/value This empirical study emphasizes the importance of the EDM approach using clustering techniques which can help the instructor understand how students use the provided LMS content to learn and then can deliver them the best educational experience.

<p>It is essential to predict distance education students’ year-end academic performance early during the course of the semester and to take precautions using such prediction-based information. This will, in particular, help enhance their academic performance and, therefore, improve the overall educational quality. The present study was on the development of a mathematical model intended to predict distance education students’ year-end academic performance using the first eight-week data on the learning management system. First, two fuzzy models were constructed, namely the classical fuzzy model and the expert fuzzy model, the latter being based on expert opinion. Afterwards, a gene-fuzzy model was developed optimizing membership functions through genetic algorithm. The data on distance education were collected through Moodle, an open source learning management system. The data were on a total of 218 students who enrolled in Basic Computer Sciences in 2012. The input data consisted of the following variables: When a student logged on to the system for the last time after the content of a lesson was uploaded, how often he/she logged on to the system, how long he/she stayed online in the last login, what score he/she got in the quiz taken in Week 4, and what score he/she got in the midterm exam taken in Week 8. A comparison was made among the predictions of the three models concerning the students’ year-end academic performance.</p>

The study aims to analyze students' academic performance using a learning management system (LMS) through the Moodle feature serving as an online-based learning resource, which aims to build an interactive learning process between teachers and students. Implementation of LMS able to save time, material organization and conduct effectively and efficiently. The design of this research is qualitative. It describes the data that has been obtained from the field and the literature related to the discussion of the use of online academic-based learning management systems (LMS). The learning process by utilizing information and communication technology has been used with effective learning. It can be stated that the use of e-learning in LMS has functioned as a learning resource, a learning tool, and a learning system itself. The quality is mainly emphasized in the process, namely the active role of students in learning activities, changing conventional learning patterns of students only accepting existing information (transfer of knowledge) and active patterns.
