Introduction The Purdue Pegboard Test (PPT) is crucial for assessing fine dexterity of patients with hand injury. Determining the PPT cutoff value is needed to distinguish patients with impaired hand dexterity from those with unimpaired hand dexterity. The aim of this article is to examine the construct validity of PPT and to determine its cutoff values for patients with hand injuries. Method The PPT and Disabilities of Arm Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire Turkish version (DASH-T) were used to measure hand dexterity. To examine construct validity, we measured the correlation between PPT and DASH-T. The cutoff values were determined using the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve generated with sensitivity and 1-specificity. We recruited 101 patients with hand injury and 162 healthy participants. Results Correlation between all subtests of PPT and DASH-T were weak ( r = −0.282; −0.473: p<0.05). The cutoff value for the assembly subtest of PPT was 24.5. The range of area under the curve (AUC) values for PPT subtests was good to excellent (AUC: 0.82–0.92). Conclusion The current study demonstrates that PPT is a valid instrument for measuring hand dexterity in patients with hand injury. Results also suggest that PPT distinguished the patients with impaired hand function from those with unimpaired hand dexterity.

<p>Developing students' positive attitude toward learning is one of the important<br />things, because some researchers mention that attitudes toward the subjects<br />are related to academic achievement. Teachers, in the implementation of<br />learning can evaluate attitudes toward the subjects, in order to know how<br />students' attitude toward learning that is/has been going on. Therefore, an<br />attitude assessment is required for valid, reliable and practical learning. The<br />purpose of this research is to develop a Likert scale type questionnaire that<br />can measure students' attitudes toward chemistry. In this study initially has<br />been compiled as many as 43 items. The items in the present scale were<br />adapted from the Test of Science-Related Attitudes (TOSRA) and Attitudes<br />towards Chemistry Lessons Scale (ATCLS). After the contents validation of<br />the questionnaire by the expert, the questionnaire is tested on 245 college<br />students. Determination of construct validity which is conducted with<br />exploratory factor analysis obtained 32 items valid question. The result of<br />factor analysis shows that the scale has nine factors that explain 62.105% of<br />the total variance. In addition, it shows the finding of 'reliability coefficient<br />(Cronbach' alpha) of 0.91. The results obtained showed that it has obtained<br />valid and reliable questionnaires as a measuring tool that can be used to<br />determine student attitudes toward chemistry in chemistry foodstuffs<br />lectures</p>

Background and Objectives: The advent of 2020 was eclipsed by an epidemic crisis of COVID-19. The swift spread of fatal viruses creates paralyzing apprehensions among all human beings and has produced a need to develop a sound psychometric scale to measure anxiety related to COVID-19. Methods: Items for a Corona Virus Anxiety Scale (CVAS) emerged from literature reviews, a SARS fear scale, and qualitative analysis of interviews. After successive item modifications and pilot-testing, the 17-item self-reported CVAS was administered to (N = 256) participants. A sample of (N = 45) individuals was recruited for determination of CVAS construct validity with the Impact of Event Scale-Revised (IES-R). Results: Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) showed 3 factors with 57.46 % variance, Fear of Infection and Death (FOIAD), Social Isolation (SI), and Loss of Control and Helplessness (LOCAH). Item-total correlation values ranged from (r = 0.46 to 0.63, p < 0.01). Overall, CVAS showed a high-value Cronbach alpha reliability (α = 0.896); alpha reliabilities for subscales also lay in acceptable ranges. The relationship between CVAS and IES-R suggests significant and positive correlation values (r = 0.477, **p < 0.01), demonstrating the construct validity of the newly-developed CVAS. Interpretation and Conclusions: CVAS is a reliable and valid self-reporting tool for screening of anxieties about COVID-19 among the general population.

It is now possible to determine proper motions of high-velocity objects in such a way as to obtain with some accuracy the velocity vector relevant to the Sun. If a potential field of the Galaxy is assumed, one can compute an actual orbit. A determination of the velocity of the globular clusterωCentauri has recently been completed at Greenwich, and it is found that the orbit is strongly retrograde in the Galaxy. Similar calculations may be made, though with less certainty, in the case of RR Lyrae variable stars.

Using the new reductions of the IUE light curves by Sonneborn et al. (1997) and an extensive set of HST images of SN 1987A we have repeated and improved Panagia et al. (1991) analysis to obtain a better determination of the distance to the supernova. In this way we have derived an absolute size of the ringRabs= (6.23 ± 0.08) x 1017cm and an angular sizeR″ = 808 ± 17 mas, which give a distance to the supernovad(SN1987A) = 51.4 ± 1.2 kpc and a distance modulusm–M(SN1987A) = 18.55 ± 0.05. Allowing for a displacement of SN 1987A position relative to the LMC center, the distance to the barycenter of the Large Magellanic Cloud is also estimated to bed(LMC) = 52.0±1.3 kpc, which corresponds to a distance modulus ofm–M(LMC) = 18.58±0.05.
