New taxa and synonymies in the group of Liptena opaca (Kirby, 1890) (Lepidoptera, Lycaenidae, Poritiinae). A lectotype of Liptena opaca (Kirby, 1890) is designated, and the status of three of its subspecies are revised: ugandana Stempffer, Bennett & May, 1974, is raised to specific rank, centralis Stempffer, Bennett & May, 1974, is synonymized with L. opaca gabunica, and sankuru Stempffer, Bennett & May, 1974, becomes a subspecies of L. albomacula Hawker-Smith, 1933. Liptena ouesso Stempffer, Bennett & May, 1974, is synonymized with L. immaculata Grünberg, 1910. Six new species are described, four from Cameroon (L. arnouxi n. sp., L. laguerrei n. sp., L. mariae n. sp. and L. perconfusa n. sp.), one from eastern Nigeria (L. brophyi n. sp.), and one species (L. restricta n. sp.) as well as a new subspecies (L. immaculata orientis n. ssp.) from north-eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A New Species

A new species and eight new subspecies of Papilionoidea discovered in Vietnam between 2002 and 2020 are described and illustrated. The status of two taxa are revised. New taxa include Pieridae: Delias sanaca bidoupa Monastyrskii & Vu subspec. nov. and Talbotia naganum aurelia Monastyrskii & Vu subspec. nov.; Nymphalidae: Abrota ganga pulcheria Monastyrskii & Vu, subspec. nov.; Bassarona recta consonensis Monastyrskii & Vu, subspec. nov.; Pantoporia bieti aurantina Monastyrskii & To subspec. nov.; Ragadia latifasciata cristata Monastyrskii & Vu, subspec. nov.; Ragadia latifasciata crystallina Monastyrskii & Vu, subspec. nov.; Faunis indistincta luctus Monastyrskii & Vu subspec. nov. & Aemona gialaica Monastyrskii, K. Saito & Vu, spec. nov. The taxon infuscata Devyatkin & Monastyrskii, previously described as the subspecies Aemona tonkinensis infuscata, was elevated to the species level, while the taxon critias (Ragadia critias Riley & Godfrey) was reduced to a subspecies. Three Satyrinae species were recorded from Vietnam for the first time: Palaeonympha opalina Butler, 1871; Ypthima motschulskyi Bremer & Grey, 1853; and Ragadia latifasciata Leech, 1891.

Abstract The semi-aquatic African murine genera Colomys and Nilopegamys are considered monotypic and thought to be closely related to one another. Colomys occurs across forested regions of equatorial Africa, whereas Nilopegamys is known only from the Ethiopian holotype, making it among the rarest mammalian genera in the world – and possibly extinct. Using morphological and genetic data, we reassess the taxonomy of Colomys and Nilopegamys. A multilocus phylogeny with outgroups demonstrates that Nilopegamys is sister to Colomys. In addition, we recognize at least four morphologically diagnosable and genetically distinct species within Colomys: C. eisentrauti (elevated from subspecies and restricted to north-west Cameroon), C. goslingi (with a more restricted range than previously reported) and two new species (one from Liberia and Guinea and one from central and southern Democratic Republic of the Congo and Angola). We also review the status of four other taxa currently recognized within Colomys goslingi (bicolor, denti, goslingi and ruandensis) and demonstrate that these names lack phylogenetic and/or morphological support. Finally, we discuss potential biogeographic barriers that may have played a role in the evolution of Colomys and Nilopegamys, emphasizing the importance of rivers in both facilitating and, possibly, limiting dispersal within these genera.

A new genus Kurbatovia gen. nov. is erected for Dexoris chome Bocák, Grebennikov et Masek, 2013. Four new species, Dexoris (Elgodexoris) rwandensis sp. nov., D. (E.) nyungwensis sp. nov., D. (E.) svetlanae sp. nov. and D. (E.) maikoensis sp. nov., are described from Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A key to species of the subgenus Elgodexoris Bocák et Bocáková, 1988 is provided. Mimolibnetinae is revalidated as a distinct subfamily.

Review of specimens and names of Faramea Aubl. (Rubiaceae, Coussareeae) has required new nomenclatural combinations, clarified the identities of some previously described species, and discovered some new taxa. Here we transfer two Faramea names, F. suaveolens Duchass. and F. panurensis Müll. Arg., to Coussarea Aubl.; review the identities of F. cuencana Standl., F. multiflora A. Rich., F. oblongifolia Standl., F. parvibractea Steyerm., F. spathacea Müll. Arg. ex Standl., and F. suerrensis (Donn. Sm.) Donn. Sm.; lectotypify F. multiflora and F. panurensis; transfer to Faramea and lectotypify Rudgea scandens K. Krause; and describe 13 new species and two new subspecies: F. camposiana C. M. We provide a synthesis of all mammal taxa described from the African mainland, Madagascar and all surrounding islands in the 20 years since 1988, thereby supplementing the earlier works of G.M. Allen (1939) and W.F.H. Ansell (1989), and bringing the list of African mammals described over the last 250 years current to December 2008. We list 175 new extant taxa, including five new genera, one new subgenus, 138 new species and 31 new subspecies, including remarks, where relevant, on the current systematic position of each taxon. Names of seven species of primates are emended, according to the requirements of the ICZN. The taxonomic group in which the largest number of new taxa has been described is the Primates, with two new genera, 47 new species and 11 new subspecies, while geographically the biggest increase in new species descriptions has been on the island of Madagascar, accounting for roughly half (67) of all new species described in the past 20 years. Nearly half of all new species listed currently are assessed as Data Deficient on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (49 of 101 listed species) suggesting further research is urgently needed to help clarify the status of those recently described species.

Four species of Arthothelium from Africa and Socotra are described as new to science: Arthothelium atrorubrum from Madagascar, characterized by irregularly rounded blackish ascomata with a deeply red hypothecium and submuriform ascospores; Arthothelium aurantiacopruinosum from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, characterized by black, irregularly rounded to stellate, orange pruinose ascomata and muriform ascospores with two larger terminal cells; Arthothelium frischianum from Madagascar, characterized by brownish-black minute irregular ascomata with remnants of thallus and muriform ascospores with one larger terminal cell; Arthothelium miesii from Socotra (Yemen), characterized by a thick thallus, immersed, stellate to cerebriform, brownish, greyish pruinose ascomata and submuriform ascospores. A key to all reported species of Arthothelium from tropical Africa (South Africa excluded) and Socotra is provided.

The status of the genus Phelene stat. resurr., previously synonymized under Chiriquia is revalidated. The genus is redescribed and Phelene turgida stat. rev. a lectotype and paralectotypes are designated for this species. Tetrix laticeps is proposed as nomen dubium and its described a new additional species Phelene maroon n. sp. The diagnosis of the subfamily is adjusted with the characters of the new taxa included and an updated key of genera and species is provided.

Here we publish a new species of forest tree of the genus Drypetes Vahl (Putranjivaceae), D. umbricola D. J. Harris & Quintanar, which has a wide distribution in Central Africa (Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, and Republic of the Congo). It is known from 70 herbarium collections and additional sterile plot vouchers. A differential diagnosis, detailed morphological description, photographs, an illustration, and information about its habitat, distribution, and conservation status are provided.

Four new species of Aneilema are described: A. indehiscens Faden, with subsp. indehiscens (Kenya, Tanzania) and subsp. lilacinum Faden (Zimbabwe, Mozambique, South Africa); A. arenicola Faden (Mozambique, South Africa); A. brunneospermum Faden (Mozambique, Swaziland, South Africa); and A. tanaense Faden (Kenya). A new subspecies, Aneilema dregeanum Kunth subsp, mossambicense Faden (Mozambique), is also described, and A. johmtonii K. Schum. is lectotypified.

The present paper contains descriptions of four new species of the genus Tumicla Wallengren, 1863: T. elephantina sp. nov. (South Mozambique), T. mbeghai sp. nov. (NE Tanzania), T. admiranda sp. nov. (SE Democratic Republic of the Congo) and T. smithi sp. nov. (Central Zambia). The male paratype specimen of T. doa Kühne 2007 is proved to be not conspecific with the holotype female but belongs to an undescribed species described here as T. mbeghai sp. nov. rendering Tumicla doa to be known by the female holotype only. Adults, male and female genitalia of the new and related species are illustrated.
