Kata kunci: animal-assisted therapy, gangguan spektrum autisme ANIMAL-ASSISTED THERAPY AS A TREATMENT FOR AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER PATIENTS IN CHILDREN ABSTRACTAutism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral disorder. One of the development carried out for ASD intervention is animal-assisted therapy (AAT). AAT is a goal-directed intervention in which ananimal that meets specific criteria is an integral part of the treatmentprocess. The method used in writingliterature review studies uses article library sources, where the search proses uses Google Scholar, PubMed Central, and Springer Link. The themes in the articles collected were related to the animal-assisted therapy for autism spectrum disorder treatment. The results that collected has shown that AAT can improve social skills, language skills, behaviour, and motor skills in ASD patient. This review provides knowledge related to alternative therapy with animal that can be done to patient with autism. Keywords: animal-assisted therapy, autism spectrum disorder

According to some international assessments, the rate of autism spectrum disorder cases is 1 to 68 children. There are approximately 67 million autistic people in the worlds, and 4 out of 5 children are boys. The alarmingly increasing rate, as well as the impossibility to prevent this disorder, as its causes are not completely clear, the diversity of its symptoms, the precarious social integration and the big number of ineffectual therapies are the key elements that have determined us to pursue this research. The aim of this study is that of demonstrating that the multisystemic therapy (MST) in water and the cognitive therapy play an important role in the multidisciplinary process of recovering and integrating the autistic children in society. Keywords: autism, deviant behavior, alternative therapy, psychomotor education.

Research studies report that animal-assisted therapy (AAT) may be an effective alternative method for treating autism spectrum disorder (ASD). However, the presence of many methodological weaknesses and the limited replication of such studies have resulted in divided opinion on the actual effectiveness of AAT for treating ASD, and much hesitancy surrounding its use. Reliable clinically based studies must be conducted if this uncertainty is to be put to rest. Because these studies require the participation of physicians who are often hesitant to participate, it is suggested that leadership interventions be used as tools to encourage their participation in AAT research. This chapter aims to discuss the necessity for physician participation, the reasons for the lack of clinician participation in such research, and recommendations for encouraging physician and policymaker participation in specifically targeted research studies.

Given that early caregiver concerns may be different for children who go on to receive a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder versus another developmental disability, early caregiver concerns may differ for girls. Using a community-based sample of children (n = 241), we examined the extent to which gender differences may be related to caregiver concerns prior to a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder or other developmental disability. Participants were matched on chronological age, and cognitive functioning did not differ across groups. Using caregiver concern data, results showed that boys with autism spectrum disorder showed increased social interaction concerns; overall, autism spectrum disorder–related concerns did not differentiate those with autism spectrum disorder from developmental disability. Children with developmental disability, however, showed increased general developmental concerns as compared to those with autism spectrum disorder. Young girls with autism spectrum disorder may demonstrate behaviors that are not particularly salient or concerning for parents; future research may investigate the behaviors that differentiate girls with autism spectrum disorder early in development.
