Although mindfulness has become a popular concept in Turkey, few scales were tested in terms of their validity to Turkish context. The aim of the study is to adapt Freiburg Mindfulness Inventory (FMI) into Turkish and measure the validity and the reliability of the scale. Data for this study came from 302 (169 female and 116 male) white-collar employees working in Istanbul. The scale was translated by the authors and checked by a group of academics who have a theoretical knowledge about the concept. Validity was tested in terms of criterion-related and construct validity; reliability was assessed by internal consistency measure. Results revealed that FMI is a valid and reliable scale for Turkish business context. Keywords: Mindfulness, Freiburg. Mindfulness Inventory, validity, Turkish

Hypertension is one of the leading diseases of the cardiovascular system. It is manifested by changes in arterial stiffness. Cardiovascular reactivity, especially blood pressure (BP), changes during the cold pressor test (CPT) depending on various factors. Undoubtedly, stress is one of the most important factors. The aim of the study is to investigate the various effects of CPT on cardiovascular responses in healthy young subjects. 56 healthy individuals aged between 21 and 26 years have been investigated. The Cardiovascular responses (BP, heart rate, aortic pulse wave velocity) to CPT were recorded by using the applanation tonometry. The Medical Outcomes Study Sleep Scale and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were assessed. 32,14%(n=18) of individuals who had showed difference in systolic BP more than 22 mm of Hg and difference in diastolic BP more than 18 mm of Hg after the CPT were defined as hyperreactors. Hyperreactors showed a significantly higher increase in sleep disturbances (P > 0.01) and anxiety when compared to the normoreaktors. The CPT used to diagnose cardiovascular reactivity in young individuals and the assessment of perceived stress can help identify candidates for a future risk of hypertonic disease.   Keywords: Cold pressor test; cardiovascular reactivity; applanation tonometry; blood pressure; stress

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of communication skills training on improving marital intimacy and reducing marital conflicts among young couples using a cognitive behavioural therapy approach. Data were collected from a sample of 20 couples in Iran who were selected by purposive sampling method. To select them, first, they had to complete at least 2 years of marriage and, second, they should be willing to voluntarily participate in our training course. The selected sample was divided into experiment and control groups using the random assignment method based on a pre-test–post-test plan. The experimental group was trained in communication skills training via 8 weekly based sessions. During this period, no intervention was given to the control group. The hypothesis analyses using the covariance analysis showed that the communication skills training enhanced marital intimacy and reduced marital conflicts in all levels. The findings showed that CBT-based communication skills training can positively affect the family relationship between young couples.   Keywords: Communication skills, marital intimacy, marital conflicts, couple, training.

Using a Midwestern sample of sex offenders, the current study reports findings on the utility of the Level of Service Inventory-Revised (LSI-R) in predicting recidivism for offenders with a history of sexual crimes. The current study includes data from a sample of 250 sexual offenders over a 36-month period. This study aims to investigate how three variables – level of education, age and employment status – correlate to recidivism, and if they moderate the effectiveness of the tool in predicting future offending. This study found a statistically significant relationship between total LSI-R score and general recidivism, supporting the predictive utility of the LSI-R for sex offenders. These findings imply the need for intervention programmes focused on young sex offenders to reduce their potential for reoffending. The present study contributes to the available research by increasing the knowledge regarding sexual offender recidivism rates. Keywords: Sex offenders, recidivism, age, level of education, employment

The current tendencies in promoting health, safety and hygiene in the work place include not only physical, chemical and biological risks, but also psychosocial risks which influence the physical and mental well-being of a worker. Professional healthcare workers, including radiology technicians, are highly exposed to this risk. Our purpose is to evaluate the psychosocial risk factors among radiology technicians work and to inspect the relationship between socio-demographic, socio-professionals and physiologic risks using the COPSOQ to collect the data and also a checklist for self-evaluation of the hygiene and safety conditions in the work place. Group dimension in the COPSOQ reveal a statistic difference between the dimensions of ‘social relationship and leadership’ and the variable gender. Since multiple transformations occur in the labouring world and with different constraints still taking place, psychosocial risks in the work place is still a subject of concern for professional risks. Keywords: Psychosocial, risk, radiology, hygiene, safety.
