This thesis establishes the benefits of multi-architecture systems by using reconfigurable modules in conjunction with a case integration strategy to improve system performance. The modules and strategies discussed in this thesis provide opportunities to the improve system performance of processing units designed for the consumer market. The primary objective for this work is to improve the performance of consumer processors using programmable logic, while ensuring the changes are abstracted from operating systems and software applications. This thesis accomplishes this using specified integration strategies, protocols and through optimization of device drivers.

Water hyacinth (WH) is an invasive aquatic macrophyte that dominates freshwater bodies across the world. However, due to its rapid growth rate and wide-spread global presence, WH could offer great potential as a biomass feedstock, including for bioenergy generation. This study compares different integration strategies of hydrothermal carbonisation (HTC) and anaerobic digestion (AD) using WH, across a range of temperatures. These include (i) hydrochar combustion and process water digestion, (ii) hydrochar digestion, (iii) slurry digestion. HTC reactions were conducted at 150 °C, 200 °C, and 250 °C. Separation of hydrochars for combustion and process waters for digestion offers the most energetically-feasible valorisation route. However, hydrochars produced from WH display slagging and fouling tendencies; limiting their use in large-scale combustion. AD of WH slurry produced at 150 °C appears to be energetically-feasible and has the potential to also be a viable integration strategy between HTC and AD, using WH.

A text-to-speech (TTS) system converts normal language text into speech. An intelligent text-to-speech program allows people with visual impairments or reading disabilities, to listen to written works on a home computer. Many computer operating systems and day to day software applications like Adobe Reader have included text-to-speech systems. This paper is presented to show that how HMM can be used as a tool to convert text to speech.

Digital technology is unique in that it enables convergence of access devices and content as well as convergence of industry participant operations and strategy. This digital convergence creates opportunities, and threats, for developing new business models and unique growth strategies for digital product companies. The purpose of this chapter is to discuss examples where digital product companies have taken advantage of digital convergence through horizontal integration strategies that enable them to create unique mixes of products/services and reach larger markets. Actual horizontal integration strategy examples are discussed for several industries where products are in a digital form. In addition, potential cross-industry integration strategies and online intermediary (cybermediary) strategies are identified along with tactical level strategies for mass customization and use of interactivity tools and social networking. Strategic alternatives for introduction, growth, and maturity lifecycle stages are also discussed. The rationale for these strategies and implications for managers of digital product companies are discussed along with directions for future research.

Making technology accessible is a complex and difficult problem, involving many individuals and groups. When a particular technology presents a barrier to an individual, who is at fault? Often blame is assigned to an individual technology developer, content developer, or educational entity, though doing so is often an oversimplification of the problem. In actuality, a variety of players, individually and through relationships with one another, play critical roles in making technology accessible. Players include consumers, technology developers (including developers of assistive technology, operating systems, software applications, user agents, and authoring tools), standards organizations, K-12 and postsecondary schools, employers, advocates and legislators. This article provides an overview of the current state of technology accessibility by examining the roles of each of these players and their interdependencies.
