ISOMETRIC DEFORMATION OF THE SURFACE OF MINIMAL AREA OF A CYLINDER INCREASING ITS VOLUME Lizandro Baldomero, Reyna Zegarra y Heron Juan Morales Marchena Departamento de Matemáticas, Universidad Nacional del Santa, Chimbote, Perú DOI: https://doi.org/10.33017/RevECIPeru2010.0001/ ABSTRACT A method for increasing the volume of a cylinder with minimal area preserving the isometry is expounded. To do this, it was necessary to use numerical methods and a computer program. Such method let us set down a theorem which is analogy to that given for the case of a cube instead of a cylinder, being an immediate application of this theorem to the case of optimization in designing commercial bottles. To get an analytical proof of this new theorem is demanded. Keywords: surface of minimal area; optimization in designing commercial bottles; increasing the volume without stretching.

Textbook of several universities. 2nd edition. The color edition is also available at Glasstree Bookstore. It is recommended for students. The series of books Numerical Methods is written primarily for students at technical universities, but also as a useful handbook for engineers, PhD students and scientists. This volume introduces the reader into numeral systems and representation of numbers in digital computers. Possibly the most important part of this book are descriptions of differences between constant and random variables, related types of errors and error propagation. These topics are supplemented with various types of regression analyses. Finally, direct and iterative methods for finding roots of polynomials are explained. Practical application is supported by 77 examples and 13 algorithms. For reasons of simplicity, algorithms are written in pseudo-code, so they can easily be included in any computer program.

AbstractRecently, with numerical methods, Hod clarified the validity of Thorne hoop conjecture for spatially regular static charged fluid spheres, which were considered as counterexamples against the hoop conjecture. In this work, we provide an analytical proof on Thorne hoop conjecture in the spatially regular static charged fluid sphere spacetimes.

Abstract In determining genetic map distances it is necessary to infer crossover frequencies from the ratios of recombinant and parental progeny. To do this accurately, in intervals where multiple crossovers may occur, a mathematical model of chiasma interference must be assumed when mapping in organisms displaying such interference. In Saccharomyces cerevisiae the model most frequently used is that of R.W. Barratt. An alternative to this model is presented. This new model is implemented using a microcomputer and standard numerical methods. It is demonstrated to fit ranked tetrad data from Saccharomyces more closely than the Barratt model and thus generates more accurate estimates of map distances when used with two-point data. A computer program implementing the model has been developed for use in calculating map distances from tetrad data in Saccharomyces.

ABSTRACT In the present article is expounded the result of a research work performed in order to validate a criterion to fallow to optimize material for designing commercial bottles with lateral revolution surfaces and flat bases mainly. Such optimization criterion was called Optimization Criterion by Compensation which uses as main tools, numerical methods and a computer program. The fundamental characteristic of optimum design is that the container must be in such a way the area of its total internal surface must be a minimum for a given volume. Such criterion was validated when it was shown that in most commercial bottles it is used much more material than the Optimization Criterion by Compensation tell us. Keywords: Optimization, Design of commercial bottles.
