AbstractA relative clause is subordinate to a nominal element (noun or pronoun) called ``antecedent'', in order to define or complete its meaning. Therefore any language making use of relative clauses must: 1) make clear that the relative clause is indeed subordinate; 2) show which type of relation exists between the relative clause and the antecedent, i.e. what would be the grammatical function of the antecedent, should the clause be independent and include it. The different ways of answering that double constraint provide criteria for a typological classification of relative clauses. The article describes the choices made by a few Berber languages.

Mayfly communities were investigated in a series of four lakes, two beaver ponds, and 13 streams in a Laurentian watershed. Forty-five taxa were collected mostly through emergence trapping of adults (76 trap-years). Q and R analyses were used to show similarities between the stations and associations between the species. The middle reaches of the mainstream harbour the richest communities which are an assemblage of a few ubiquitous species (Baetis gr. pygmaeus, Stenonema modestum, Habrophlebia vibrans, and Paraleptophlebia volitans), lotic species (Baetis flavistriga, B. pluto, Stenonema vicarium, and Heptagenia pulla) some of which show a restricted distribution (Paraleptophlebia adoptiva, P. Ontario, Leucrocuta hebe, and Stenacron interpunctatum heterotarsale), and also lentic species (Eurylophella verisimilis, Leptophlebia cupida, Cloeon simplex, C. rubropictum, Centroptilum album, and Stenacron interpunctatum frontale). The headwater streams contain no distinct element, except perhaps Siphlonurus typicus, but rather the more resistant or dispersive species from the mainstream, mainly Ephemerellidae and Leptophlebiidae. The lower reaches of the mainstream are characterized by the addition of a few typical river species, Serratella sordida and Epeorus vitreus. Lacustrine communities are less diverse, comprising mostly the lentic species from the streams plus a distinctive element (Stenacron interpunctatum canadense, Callibaetis ferrugineus, and Hexagenia limbata occulta). Only Leptophlebia cupida colonizes the bog lake, and no species occur in the beaver ponds. Most congeneric species are either spatially or temporally segregated. The sections of the mainstream produce an average of some 1000 adult mayflies/m2 per year; other streams are less productive and the lakes even less so (less than 100/m2). The seasonal succession of the species and the emergence patterns of the dominant species are illustrated; a classification of emergence patterns is attempted on the basis of the present data and of other recent studies.

The aim of this paper is to provide a more accurate typological classification of Modern Greek. The verb in MG shows many polysynthetic traits, such as noun and adverb incorporation into the verbal complex, a large inventory of bound morphemes, pronominal marking of objects, many potential slots before the verbal head, nonconfigurational syntax, etc. On the basis of these traits, MG has similarities with polysynthetic languages such as Abkhaz, Cayuga, Chukchi, Mohawk, Nahuatl, a.o. I will show that the abundance of similar patterns between MG and polysynthesis point to the evolution of a new system away from the traditional dependent-marking strategy and simple synthesis towards head-marking and polysynthesis. Finally, I will point to the risk of undertaking a direct comparison of different language systems by discussing the pronominal head-marking strategies in MG and the North American languages.

The article materials of excavation on a medieval complex of archeological sites Toropovo-7A are considered. In a form and figuration of ceramic ware typological classification of new materials is carried out. Comparative analysis with medieval monuments of Kuznetsk Depression allowed to reveal analogies to finds in the wide chronological range of the developed and late Middle Ages. It allowed to create a hypothesis of use of the cult family platform in two time intervals the developed and late Middle Ages.
