This paper describes the preparation and characterization of mixed ligand complexes of Co(II) and Fe(III) ions with malic acid and heterocyclic amines. The general formula of the complexes are as follows: [M(MA)L2] and K[M(MA)2L2] (where, M = Co(II) (1-4), Fe(II) (5-8); MA = C4H4O5 (1-4), 2C4H4O5 (5-8); L = C6H5N (1), C6H7N (2), C9H7N (3, 4), 2C6H5N (5), 2C6H7N (6), 2C9H7N (7-8). The complexes were prepared in the solid form and characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity and magnetic measurements, infrared and electronic spectroscopic studies. The infrared spectra of the complexes confirmed the coordination of metal ion with ligands. The Co(II) complexes are assumed to have tetrahedral and the Fe(III) complexes have octahedral structure based on the electronic spectra and magnetic measurements. Their antibacterial and antifungal activity has also been evaluated by the disc diffusion methods against fourteen pathogenic bacteria (five gram positive and nine gram negative) and fourteen fungi. Complexes [Co(II)(MA)(4-pico)2] showed the highest antibacterial activity against all bacteria tested (when, MA= C4H4O5 and 4-pico = C6H7N). The present work has been designed for the characterization and antibacterial studies of mixed ligand complexes of Pd(II) ions with phthalic acid and heterocyclic amines. The general formula of the complexes is (MLL/) [where, M = Pd(II); L = Oxalic acid, C2O4, L/ = Quinoline, C9H7N(1); iso-Quinoline, C9H7N(2)]. The complexes were prepared in the solid form and characterized by elemental analysis, conductivity & magnetic measurements and infrared & electronic spectroscopic studies. The infrared spectra of the complexes confirmed the coordination of metal ion with ligands. Their antibacterial activity has been evaluated by the disc diffusion method against seven pathogenic bacteria (three gram positive and four gram negative). The complexes were shown to exhibit mild to moderate antibacterial activity against the tested bacteria. Mixed ligand complexes of Pd(II) and Pt(II) ions with phthalic acid and heterocyclic amines were synthesized and characterized. The general formula of the complexes is [MLL/]; where, M = Pd(II)(1-2), Pt(II)(3); L = phthalate, C8H4O4, L/ = pyridine, C5H5N(1); 2-aminopyridine, C5H6N2(2) and 4-picoline, C6H7N(3). The complexes were synthesized in the solid form and characterized by elemental analysis, electrical conductivity, magnetic measurements, and spectroscopic studies. Spectral analyses and magnetic measurements revealed the coordination of metal ion with ligands and geometry of the complexes. Anti-bacterial activity of the complexes against seven pathogenic bacteria (three gram positive and four gram negative) was assessed by the disc diffusion method. Complexes [Pd(Ph)(2-apy)] and [Pt(Ph)(4-pico)2] showed the highest anti-bacterial activity (when, Ph = bidentate phthalate, 2-apy = 2-aminopyridine and 4-pico = 4-picoline). Tetra dentate Schiff base N, N’-bis [2-hydroxyacetophenone] ethylendiamine (OAcPh-en) were formed by the 2:1 molar condensation of 2-hydroxyacetophenone with ethylenediamine. Their Ni(II), Cu(II), Co(II), Mn(II), Fe(II) and Zn(II) diaquo complexes (I) were synthesized. The neutral bidentate ligand derived from benzaldehyde and ethylenediamine or o-phenylenediamine in 1:1 molar ratio in alcoholic solution yield bis[benzylidene] ethylenediamine (Ben-en) or bis [benzylidene] o-phenylinediamine (Ben-opd) (II). Further reaction between (I) and (II) in alcohol yielded mixed ligand complexes. The characterization of these newly synthesized mixed-ligand complexes were done by elemental analysis, magnetic measurements, infrared spectra and uv-visible spectra, thermo gravimetric analysis, anti-microbial studies have also been under taken

Bis(3,5-di-t-butyl-1,2-benzoquinone 1-oximato)copper(II), Cu(ox)2, and its mixed-ligand complexes, Cu(ox)Lx [Lx = 8-hydroxyquinolinato (L1), N-Phenyl-salicylaldimine (L2), N-phenyl- 3,5-di-t-butylsalicylaldiminato (L3) and N-(2-hydroxyphenyl)-3,5-di-t-butylsalicyl-aldiminato (L4)], were prepared and their spectral behavior as well as redox-reactivity towards PPh3, (m-ClC6H4)3P, (m-CH3C6H4)3P and PPh2-(CH2)4-PPh2 studied by analytical and spectroscopic (IR, UV-vis, ESR) techniques and magnetic measurements. Cu(ox)2 and Cu(ox)L4 complexes prepared in air show μef values of 2.84 and 3.33 μB, respectively, and are consistent with an S= 1 and S= 3/2 ground states. Both compounds are formulated as copper(II)-radical complex exhibiting intramolecular ferromagnetic coupling between the orthogonal dx2-y2 magnetic orbital of the CuII ion and that of the π-radical ligand.

The synthesis of the following mixed ligand complexes is reported: [Ni(phdtc)2(dpm)2], [Ni(phdtc)2(dpe)2], [Ni(phdtc)2(dpp)3], [Ni(1-naphdtc)2(dpm)2], [Ni(1-naphdtc)2], and [Ni(1-naphdtc)2(dpp)2], where phdtc = PhNHCSS-, 1-naphdtc = 1-NaPhNHCSS-, dpm = Ph2PCH2PPh2, dpe = Ph2P(CH2)2PPh2, and dpp = Ph2P(CH2)3PPh2. The complexes are characterised by microanalysis, IR and UV-Vis spectra, magnetic measurements, conductivity, X-ray powder diffraction, and thermal analysis. All the mixed ligand complexes are diamagnetic, and thus a square-planar or square-pyramidal (low-spin) structure was proposed for the present complexes.
