To reduce the complexity and improving effectiveness of power system UPFC is one of the most effective and reliable device. In this impact of using UPFC is studied for the model grid prepared using MATLAB having two generators and one major load centre. The flow of active and reactive power, voltage stability and fault recovery time is studied for this model whose results are given by the MATLAB Simulink. The results clearly show the improvement in power quality in grid at system and load buses and also improvement in other various factors has been observed.

Application of UPFC for enhancement of voltage profile and minimization of losses using Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI)Transmission line loss minimization in a power system is an important research issue and it can be achieved by means of reactive power compensation. The unscheduled increment of load in a power system has driven the system to experience stressed conditions. This phenomenon has also led to voltage profile depreciation below the acceptable secure limit. The significance and use of Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) devices and capacitor placement is in order to alleviate the voltage profile decay problem. The optimal value of compensating devices requires proper optimization technique, able to search the optimal solution with less computational burden. This paper presents a technique to provide simultaneous or individual controls of basic system parameter like transmission voltage, impedance and phase angle, thereby controlling the transmitted power using Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC) based on Bacterial Foraging (BF) algorithm. Voltage stability level of the system is defined on the Fast Voltage Stability Index (FVSI) of the lines. The IEEE 14-bus system is used as the test system to demonstrate the applicability and efficiency of the proposed system. The test result showed that the location of UPFC improves the voltage profile and also minimize the real power loss.

Load flow studies are carried out in order to find a steady state solution of a power system network. It is done to continuously monitor the system and decide upon future expansion of the system. The parameters of the system monitored are voltage magnitude, voltage angle, active and reactive power. This paper presents techniques used in order to obtain such parameters for a standard IEEE – 30 bus and IEEE-57 bus network and makes a comparison into the differences with regard to computational time and effectiveness of each solver

The high-performance grid-interfaced inverters are in demand as they are rapidly used in renewable energy systems. The main objective of grid-interfaced inverters is to inject high-quality active and reactive power with sinusoidal current. Many control schemes have been proposed earlier in the literature, but the operation under parametric uncertainties has not been given much attention. In this article, an adaptive network–based fuzzy inference control algorithm for a three-phase grid-interfaced inverter under parametric uncertainties is proposed. The main purpose of the proposed technique is to enhance the response time, decrease the steady-state oscillation in the injected active and reactive power and enhance the power quality even with parametric uncertainties. For assessment and evaluation reason, the conventional proportional–integral control is compared with the proposed controller. For a fair comparison, the gain setting for the proportional–integral control is obtained by Particle swarm optimization algorithm. The suggested system is developed and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink. Simulation results demonstrate that both the controllers work well to regulate the powers to required values, even with parametric variations. However, the proposed control demonstrates superiority in comparison to conventional proportional–integral control in terms of speedy response, decreased steady-state fluctuations, better power quality and increased robustness. The rise time and fluctuations in the per-unit active and reactive power are much less with the proposed control. Total harmonic distortion of the injected current and grid current are significantly better than the conventional proportional–integral control.

General power flow studies do not manage to trace the contributors by generators on power losses in the whole power transmission system. Thus, power tracing approach is utilized to address this issue. Power tracing is a termed used to describe the contributors for the power losses dissipated on the transmission line. The traditional technique made use the knowledge of circuit analysis such as cut set theory. However, there was no element of optimization which can help to achieve the optimal solution. This paper presents the power tracing monitoring during voltage stability improvement process, implemented by optimal reactive power dispatch. In this study, the impact of power tracing on voltage stability variation was investigated. Evolutionary Programming (EP) was developed and utilized to incorporate power tracing, along with voltage stability improvement. A pre-developed scalar voltage stability index was incorporated to indicate the voltage stability condition. On the other hand, the voltage stability initiative was conducted via the optimal reactive power dispatch. The power tracing was monitored for both; the pre-optimization and post-optimization scenarios. Small system model was tested to realize the power tracing phenomenon, which is rather rare study in power system community. Results on power tracing obtained during the pre- and post-optimal reactive power dispatch revealed that not all generators will involve in the contribution on the total transmission loss in the system. This can be beneficial to power system operators for allocating the cost without discrimination in the long run.
