As a new dynamic reactive compensation devices, static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) has better reactive power compensation effect such as small in size, capacity, continuous adjusting, fast response and economic performance compared with SVC. It is suitable to be used in large-scale wind farm to improve the voltage stability of wind power system. With the help of ideas and methods in conventional electric power system to calculate the two-dimensional parameter bifurcation boundary, the node voltage two-dimensional saddle-node bifurcation boundary of wind power system was calculated by using wind farm active power inject(Pin ),STATCOM parameters KMdc and Vrefdc as bifurcation control parameters. And on the basis of this analysis, the laws of wind power system voltage stability affected by active power and STATCOM parameters were obtained.

Increasing penetration level of wind power integration has a significant impact on low-frequency oscillations of power systems. Based on PSD-BPA simulation software, time domain simulation analysis and eigenvalue analysis are employed to investigate its effect on power system low-frequency oscillation characteristic in an outward transmitting thermal generated power bundled with wind power illustrative power system. System damping enhances markedly and the risk of low-frequency oscillation reduce when the generation of wind farm increase. In addition, dynamic reactive power compensations apply to wind farm, and the simulation result indicates that it can improve dynamic stability and enhance the system damping.

The objective of this paper is to perform a hybrid design for an Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to improve the dynamic voltage stability of a grid-connected wind power system. An onshore 99.2MW wind farm using Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is studied. To compensate the reactive power absorbed from the power grid of the wind farm, a Static VAR Compensator (SVC) is proposed. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed hybrid PSO–ANFIS controller, simulations of the voltage response in time-domain are performed in Matlab to evaluate the effectiveness of the designed controller. From the results, it can be concluded that the proposed hybrid PSO-optimized ANFIS-based model can be applied to enhance the dynamic voltage stability of the studied grid-connected wind power system.

As an increasing proportion of wind power in power grid, reactive power problem has become the most important problems in wind power integration. But as a result of wind power is a kind of intermittent energy sources, and put it into use in a large scale only just beginning. Many urgent problems which affect on system stability need to be resolved, such as voltage stability, reactive power compensation. This paper discussed the problems which around the reactive power compensation and angle stability issues while wind power integration. The reactive power compensation device named STATCOM instead of traditional capacitance. Establish the mathematical model of the Doubly-Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) and Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) [3]. In order to meet the wind farm can transport reactive power quickly and continuously after fault. Establish the control strategy of DFIG combined with STATCOM [1]. Using the software MATLAB to simulate the wind power grid model and control system, verifies the rightness and effectiveness of model and STATCOM reactive power compensation effect for wind power integration.

With the Asynchronous wind generators as research object, this paper analyzes the problems of the voltage stability and the generation mechanism of the reactive power compensation during the wind farms connected operation. For paralleling capacitor bank has shown obvious defects, therefore this paper employs dynamic reactive power compensation to improve reactive characteristics of grid-connected wind farms. With the influences of different wind disturbances and grid faults on wind farms, wind farm model is set up and dynamic reactive power compensation system and wind speeds are built in the Matlab/Simulink software, The simulation result shows that they can provide reactive power compensation to ensure the voltage stability of the wind farms. But STATCOM needs less reactive compensation capacity to make sure the voltage and active power approaching steady state before the faults more quickly, Therefore STATCOM is more suitable for wind farms connected dynamic reactive power compensation.

The sooner the system instability is predicted and the unstable branches are screened, the timelier emergency control can be implemented for a wind power system. In this paper, aiming at the problem that the existing unstable branch screening methods are lack prejudgment, an unstable branch screening method for power system with high-proportion wind power is proposed. Firstly, the equivalent external characteristics model of the wind farm was deduced. And based on this, the out-of-step oscillation characteristics of the power system with high proportion wind power was analyzed. Secondly, based on the oscillation characteristics, line weak-connection index (LWcI) was proposed to quantify the stability margin of a branch. Then an instability prediction method and an unstable branch screening method were proposed based on LWcI and voltage phase angle difference. Finally, the rapidity and effectiveness of the proposed method are verified through the simulation analysis of IEEE-118 system.

Shunt capacitor is a main measure to reactive power compensation of power system, which has the advantages of flexibility and economy. In order to guarantee the safety of shunt capacitor, the methods for protecting against over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current and unbalance in circuits according to the different operation modes are used. This paper in detail introduces unbalance protection ways under different connection modes of capacitor group. It is analyzed and calculated that the unbalanced current and voltage with the effects of fault capacitor units, components and fuses on capacitor bank as well through a case of unbalance computation of shunt capacitor banks (SCB) of ungrounded single star with external fuse. It is indicated by PSCAD simulation analysis that the result of theory calculation is the same as the simulation, which provides theory basis of setting the tripping point and alarm point of relay protection.

With the scale of wind farm continuously increasing, when grid fault, the influences of the wind turbines connected to the grid on the stability of the power grid can never be ignored. Therefore, there are higher standards of the wind turbines’ abilities of fault ride-through (FRT) and producing reactive power. This paper studies the direct-drive wind power system, and the main point is the fault ride-through (FRT) of the permanent magnetic synchronous generator (PMSG) with Chopper. By establishing the dynamic model of PMSG under the environment of DigSILENT, this paper simulates the fault ride-through (FRT) of the direct-drive wind power system connecting into power grid. During the research, we focus on the stability of voltage about the Chopper to the DC bus under faults. What’s more, in this paper, we analysis the data about how the Chopper help the DC bus to improve its stability. The simulation results show that: when there is a fault on the point of common coupling, the permanent magnetic synchronous generator has the capability of fault ride-through (FRT). Especially when there is a voltage dip on the grid side, the permanent magnetic synchronous generator could produce reactive power for power grid, effectively preventing the system voltage from declining seriously, so as to improve the system stability under faults.
