 Kelompok ikan retain dari perikanan tuna juga termasuk kelompok komersial utama yang juga banyak dimanfaatkan. Penurunan hook rate tuna juga turut mempengaruhi perikanan tuna termasuk hasil tangkapan samping lainnya.  Untuk itu penelitian kerentanan kelompok retain ini juga perlu dilakukan untuk mengetahui potensi berkelanjutannya. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Juli 2013 di Sendangbiru Malang, Bitung, Wakatobi, dan Kendari. Data yang dikumpulkan dan kemudian dianalisis adalah produkitivitas dan susceptabilitas menurut kriteria MSC (Marine Steward Council). Indek kerentanan dievaluasi dari indek jarak (Index Jaccard). Hasil tangkapan ikan retain dari perikanan tuna adalah ikan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis), ikan lemadang (Coryphaena hippurus), dan baby tuna (Thunnus albacores).  Nilai produktivitas berkisar 1.43-2,14 tergolong sedang sampai tinggi dan susceptibilitas 1,13-1,48. Tingkat kerentanan ikan retain berkisar 86,3-96,2 yang tergolong rentan rendah (low risk) dan potensial berkelanjutan.

Tulisan ini menyajikan tentang status perikanan huhate di Bitung meliputi deskripsi unit penangkapan, daerah penangkapan, komposisi hasil tangkapan, catch per unit of effort, dan ukuran ikan pertama kali tertangkap. Data dikumpulkan selama tahun 2004 sampai dengan 2005. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa huhate yang terdapat di Bitung dioperasikan dengan kapal penangkapan yang terbuat dari kayu berukuran 50 sampai dengan 80 GT. Daerah penangkapan di sekitar lokasi rumpon di Laut Sulawesi dan Laut Maluku. Hasil tangkapan yang diperoleh terdiri atas cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis), madidihang (Thunnus albacares), baby tuna (Thunnus spp.), dan tongkol (Auxis spp.) serta hasil tangkapan sampingan yaitu lemadang (Coryphaena hippurus) dan sunglir (Elagatis bipinnulatus). Hasil analisis catch per unit of effort diperoleh bahwa nilai catch per unit of effort baby tuna (Thunnus spp.) mengalami kenaikan pada bulan Agustus 2004, dan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis) mengalami kenaikan pada bulan September 2004. Hasil analisis terhadap ukuran pertama kali cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis) tertangkap oleh huhate 49,3 FLcm. Ukuran ini lebih panjang dibandingkan ukuran pertama kali cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis) matang gonad. Sedangkan hasil analisis terhadap ukuran pertama kali madidihang (Thunnus albacares) tertangkap oleh huhate 51,6 FLcm. Ukuran ini lebih pendek dibandingkan ukuran pertama kali madidihang (Thunnus albacares) matang gonad. This paper presents the status of pole and line fishery in Bitung of North Sulawesi, consisting of description of fishing gear, fishing ground, catch composition, catch per unit of effort, and length at first capture. Data were collected during the period of 2004 until 2005. Results show that the pole and line in Bitung operated by wooden vessels of 50 until 80 GT. The fishing grounds were the waters around FADs location in Sulawesi Sea and Maluku Sea. Catch composition consists of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), yellow fin tuna (Thunnus albacares), baby tuna (Thunnus spp.), and frigate tuna (Auxis spp.), while the bycatch consisted of dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus) and rainbow runner (Elagatis bipinnulatus). Catch per unit of effort analysis shows that catch per unit of effort value of baby tuna (Thunnus spp.) increased on August 2004, whereas catch per unit of effort value of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) increased on September 2004. The length at first capture of skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) was 49,3 FLcm. The catch size was bigger than the length at first maturity for skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis). The length at first capture of yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) was 51,6 FLcm. This catch size was smaller than the length at first maturity for yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares).

Foram amostrados 2.702 bonitos-listrados (Katsuwonus pelamis) desembarcados no porto de Niterói-RJ, entre janeiro e dezembro de 2007, com comprimentos furcais (Lf) entre 40,1 e 85,6 cm e pesos (Wt) entre 1,0 kg (1° e 2° trimestres) e 11,3 kg (2° trimestre). As maiores médias de comprimento e peso foram registradas no 4° trimestre (61,4 cm e 4,9 kg, respectivamente) e as menores no 1° trimestre (57,2 cm e 3,1 kg). A relação entre o comprimento furcal e peso total, para sexos agrupados, foi: Wt= 3,817 x 10-6Lf3,3773 (n=2026; r2= 0,8716). As médias dos fatores de condição (K) variaram de 0,0062, no 3° trimestre, a 0,0221 no 2° trimestre. As maiores capturas foram observadas nos meados do verão até o início do outono, principalmente compostas por peixes com mais de três anos de idade. Os desembarques de atuns e afins, em 2007, no estado do Rio de Janeiro pela frota atuneira de vara e isca-viva, situaram-se ao redor de 4.484 t, sendo 3.982 t de bonito-listrado e 502 t das demais espécies, entre elas albacora-laje (Thunnus albacares), albacorinha (T. atlanticus), albacora-bandolim (T. obesus), albacora-branca (T. alalunga), bonito-cachorro (Auxis thazard), bonito-pintado (Euthynnus alletteratus), dourado (Coryphaena hippurus) e xerelete (Caranx sp). Entre 2005 e 2007, o número de barcos permaneceu estável, com 14 embarcações atuantes. Em 2007, estes barcos apresentaram médias de 24,6 metros de comprimento e 112,8 de arqueação bruta.

Pemanfaatan ikan tuna begitu intensif sehingga potensial menyebabkan kerentanan.  Namun dalam perikanan multi spesies, kelompok non target (retain) sering tertangkap dalam jumlah lebih besar sehingga turut berpengaruh pada tingkat kerentanyan.  Penelitian yang dilakukan selama 2013 di Bali, Jakarta dan Pelabuhan ratu bertujuan melihat potensi kerentanan tersebut dari alat tangkap longline.  Pendekatan analisis PSA (producitivity dan susceptabilitas) dilakukan pada jenis ikan retain tuna yaitu ikan tenggiri, cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis), bawal dan Ikan lemadang (Coryphaena hippurus).  Tingkat kerentanan kelompok retain alat longline secara keseluruhan masih rendah dari 1,8 dan dan ikan masih berpotensi berkelanjutan

Jaring payang (seine net) merupakan jaring permukaan (surface seine net) yang secara khusus digunakan untuk menangkap ikan pelagis yang beradadi permukaan laut (Subani & Barus, 1989). Jaring payang adalah alat tangkap yang cukup efektif untuk menangkap ikan pelagis, khususnya ikan tongkol (Euthynnus affinis) dan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis). Kedua jenis ikan tersebut mendominansi hasil tangkapan ikan pelagis besar di Pelabuhan Ratu (Anonimus, 2004). Selain jenis-jenis ikan tersebut, kadang-kadang tertangkap juga ikan pelagis lainnya seperti ikan tuna (Thunnus), lemadang (Coryphaena hippurus), tenggiri (Scomberomerous sp.), eteman (Menemaculata), peperek (Leiognathus bindus), layang (Decapterus sp.), dan sebagainya.

In the waters surrounding Banco Chinchorro in the Mexican Caribbean are spawning and nursery areas for many types of fish. In this natural environment, as opposed to under controlled laboratory conditions, it is almost impossible to link an individual egg to the adult that laid it. This makes identifying the species of the eggs difficult. However, DNA barcodes have made this easier. In the present study, 300 eggs were processed for molecular analysis, from which 139 sequences were obtained. We identified 42 taxa (33 species with their binomial names), 35 genera, and 24 families. The identified eggs included those from Ariomma melanum, which is the first recording of this species in the Mexican Caribbean. Eggs from economically important fish species were also identified, including frigate tuna (Auxis thazard), crevalle jack (Caranx hippos), common dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus), sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus), white marlin (Kajikia albida), skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), blackfin tuna (Thunnus atlanticus), and swordfish (Xiphias gladius). We have also described new morphological characteristics and captured photographs for 21 species, as well as obtained new information about spawning locality and time for 16 species. This valuable information will provide the basis to develop more effective conservation measures for sustainable fisheries and protection of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System.

Bycatch tuna merupakan komoditas ikan komersial penting dalam perikanan tuna Samudera Hindia. Aktivitas penangkapan bycatch tuna juga berdampak pada penurunan stok sehingga menjadi rentan dan potensial tidak berkelanjutan.  Penelitian ini dilakukan di Sendangbiru Malang pada Bulan Juli 2013.  Analisis kerentanan dengan pendekatan jarak Euclidean dengan data produkitivitas dan susceptabilitas menggunakan software PSA NOAA.  Hasil tangkap bycacth tuna adalah ikan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis), Ikan lemadang (Coryphaena hippurus), baby tuna (Thunnus albacores).  Hasil kerentana menunjukan tingkat kerentanan yang diperoleh sebesar 1,66 untuk baby tuna, 1,27 untuk lemadang dan 1,42 untuk cakalang.  Secara keseluruhan nilai indek kerentanan masih rendah dari 1,8 dimana stok tergolong rentan rendah dan potensi ikan bycatch tuna masih berpotensi berkelanjutan di Sendang Biru.

Consumer illnesses by scombroid poisonings have been a continuing problem for many years. The intoxications follow the ingestion of fish such as tuna and mahimahi that have undergone bacterial decomposition, leading to the formation of biogenic amines. Research studies have concluded that histamine is one of the indicators of scombrotoxic fish and that other amines, such as cadaverine, could be involved in the illnesses. Guidance for the handling of fish on board fishing vessels to prevent the production of scombrotoxic fish has been limited by a lack of data addressing changes that occur in fish from the water to delivery at dockside. In this study, the changes in selected biogenic amines were determined in mahimahi and tuna, which were captured and held in seawater at 25 to 35°C for incubation times up to 18 h. The fillets from the treated fish were sectioned by transverse cuts and analyzed for histamine, cadaverine, and putrescine. Results showed that at 26°C, more than 12 h of incubation were required before a histamine concentration of 50 ppm was reached in mahimahi. At 35°C, 50 ppm histamine formed within 9 h. Similar results were found for skipjack and yellowfin tuna. Histamine concentrations exceeded 500 ppm within an additional 3 h of incubation in mahimahi. At both temperatures, an increase in the concentration of cadaverine preceded an increase in histamine levels. Changes in putrescine concentrations in the fish were less pronounced. The study also demonstrated that histidine decarboxylase activity was retained in some frozen samples of fish and could result in further increases in histamine on thawing.

Ecological risk assessments of the oceanic tuna fisheries on the secondary species in the Sea of Vietnam were conducted following the productivity and susceptibility analysis (PSA) method suggested by Marine Stewardship Council. The secondary species were identified through compilation and analysis of data collected in 67 observer trips conducted on board of commercial tuna fisheries by Research Institute for Marine Fisheries (RIMF) and WWF-Vietnam during the period 2000-2016. The consequence analysis pointed out that there were 12 secondary species of tuna fisheries which were taken into PSA analysis. The results indicated that most of species were at medium and low risk level. Species considered at medium risk are Pelagic thresher (Alopias pelagicus), Blue shark (Prionace glauca), Scalloped hammerhead (Sphyrna lewini), Wahoo (Acanthocybium solandri), Escolar (Lepidocybium flavobrunneum), Indo-Pacific sailfish (Istiophorus platypterus) and at low risk are Longtail tuna (Thunnus tonggol), Swordfish (Xiphias gladius), Snake mackerel (Gempylus serpens), Black marlin (Makaira indica), Indo-Pacific blue marlin (M. mazara) and Common dolphinfish (Coryphaena hippurus). Yellowfin Tuna (Thunnus albacares) and Bigeye Tuna (T. obesus) are target species and both at ecologically low risk level. The results also showed that tuna handline fishery has less impacts on group of secondary species compared to longline fishery.

Perikanan tuna dengan alat tangkap tonda, longline dan payang juga turut menangkap bycatch tuna. Bycatch tuna yang sering tertangkap adalah baby tuna, lemadang dan ikan cakalang yang dalam jangka panjang dapat menyebabkan resiko dan kerentanan.  Penelitian ini secara khusus bertujuan untuk menentukan tingkat resiko kerentanan dengan pendekatan analsisi produktivitas dan suseptabilitas.  Penelitian ini dilakukan pada bulan Juli 2013 di Pelabuhanratu.  Analisis kerentanan dengan data produkitivitas dan suseptabilitas menggunakan software PSA NOAA.  Tingkat kerentanan menunukan hasil yang relatif sama yaitu ikan cakalang (Katsuwonus pelamis) 1,14, ikan lemadang (Coryphaena hippurus) 1,38, baby tuna (Thunnus albacores) 1,41. Secara keseluruhan nilai menunjukan tingkat resiko rendah dan  kerentanan ikan bycatch tuna masih berpotensi berkelanjutan.
