The aim of this study was to explore the mediating role of fatigue between mental health and its associated factors, including workload, social support, and occupational protection, among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic in China. A national cross-sectional survey was performed to collect data from healthcare workers who have attended to patients with COVID-19. Structural equation modeling (SEM) was conducted to test the mediating effect of fatigue. The results indicated that fatigue was a significant mediator of mental health. The proportion of indirect effect with regards to the total effect of workload on mental health was 54.2%, significantly greater than other factors such as social support (19.7%) and occupational protection (23.4%). The findings confirmed that workload, social support, and occupational protection both had indirect and direct effects on mental health status through fatigue. To some extent, potential interventions designed to alleviate fatigue would reduce mental health problems among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zhongyong, as a typical Confucian thinking model, is related to employees' voice behavior. In this research we explored the relationship between Zhongyong thinking and employees' voice behavior, and examined the mediating effect of psychological safety in this relationship. Survey data were collected from 218 part-time Master of Business Administration students from two Chinese universities. The structural equation modeling results demonstrate that Zhongyong thinking was positively related to psychological safety, and that psychological safety was positively related to voice behavior. Further, psychological safety mediated the Zhongyong thinking–voice behavior relationship. These results suggest that organizations can encourage voice behavior by enhancing employees' Zhongyong thinking and by boosting their perception of psychological safety in the workplace.

Background: Perceived severity of COVID-19 (SARS-COV-2) is known to be associated with mental health of people in general and health professionals in particular in Western societies. However, its association with the mental health of students in Pakistan, which is predominantly a Muslim society, remains unclear so far. Moreover, the role of Muslim religiosity for such an association has not yet been investigated. We aimed to examine the association and report findings on the impact of perceived severity on mental health with a sample of students from all five provinces of Pakistan.Methods: We did a cross-sectional online survey from 1,525 Pakistani students in March 2020 using standardized measurement tools. We then determined the prevalence of perceived severity among students and its impact on their mental health. The strength of associations between these variables was estimated using generalized linear models, with appropriate distribution and link functions. Structural equation modeling through SmartPLS (3.0) software was utilized to analyze the results.Findings: The perceived severity of COVID-19 is significantly associated with mental health of Pakistani students, whereas Muslim religiosity is a strong mediator between perceived severity and mental health of Pakistani students.Conclusions: Though the perceived severity of COVID-19 is associated with mental health, this relationship can be better explained by the role of Muslim religiosity. When tested individually, the perceived severity accounted for only 18% variance in mental health that increased up to 57% by the mediating role of Muslim religiosity. This difference clearly indicates the mediating role of Muslim religiosity in the association between perceived severity and mental health for Pakistani students.

Background: Pre-operative patients are not only suffering from physical and physiological symptoms but they might have psychological issues which may lead to mental health issues. However, different psychosocial factors may help in managing the mental health problems in pre-operative patients. Purpose: This study was aimed to investigate the mediating role of perceived social support on mental health problems in pre-operative patients. Methodology: The sample of the study consisted of 180 participants who were going to get their major surgery done in a week including 51% men and 49% women between the ages of 18-35 years. The participants were presented with a questionnaire including a demographics sheet and three Urdu translated scales as Self -Compassion Scale, Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support, and Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale. Results: The results indicated that there was a significant negative correlation between self-compassion/perceived social support and mental health problems in pre-operative patients. The Pearson Product-Moment Correlation indicated a significant relationship among self-compassion, perceived social support, and mental health problems. Conclusion: The current study spotlighted the importance of the pre-operative time in young adults and the dire need for counseling services to be provided to the patients in this crucial time to enhance the chances of post-operative recovery and wellbeing of the patients. The aim of this paper is to investigate the mediating effect of opportunity confidence (OC) on the relationship between social norms (SNs) and decision to engage in entrepreneurial action (EA). The sample size includes prospective entrepreneurs engaged in the field of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in science and technology parks in Iran. This research uses the longitudinal survey method. Research findings from the structural equation modeling (SEM) do not confirm the mediating role of OC. However, SNs have a significant positive effect on OC, which increases the likelihood of entrepreneurial action. The paper ends with a discussion of results and practical implications.

This study investigated the physical and psychological impacts of elements related to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and demographic data in Japan both directly and as mediated by stressors, immediately following the rescinding of the state of emergency declaration accompanying the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 outbreak. An online survey was administered to 1,500 Japanese registered with an online outsourcing service. Data were analyzed with structural equation modeling using Mplus. Relatively large total effects were observed for “insufficient exercise” on physical health (β = –0.24, SE = 0.03), “mental health issues related to COVID-19” on mental health (β= –0.25, SE = 0.03) and psychological distress (β= 0.24, SE = 0.03), neuroticism on mental health (β= –0.30, SE = 0.02) and psychological distress (β= 0.36, SE = 0.02), and social support on suicidal ideation (β= –0.32, SE = 0.03). Thus, mitigating the harm resulting from the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 infection outbreak by raising awareness of risk factors and promoting social support is feasible.

There are tens of millions of children left behind by one or both rural-to-urban migrant parents (left-behind children, LBC) in rural China. Compared to non-left-behind children (NLBC), LBC are disadvantaged in psychological adjustment. Research has shown social support can help LBC grow up healthily, but the plausible mechanisms linking support to adjustment remain unclear. The present study investigated the mediating role of basic psychological need satisfaction (BPNS) in the above relationship, as well as whether the predictive pathways of support on adjustment and BPNS were moderated by resilience in a sample of 692 LBC and 264 NLBC. Structural equation modeling indicated social support positively predicted LBC’s psychological adjustment, which was completely mediated by BPNS. In addition, the mediating effect was weaker for LBC with higher levels of resilience, which indicated resilience was a necessary asset for LBC’s growth amid the adversity of low social support.

Companies that organize family entertainment activities caught the attention of researchers during the COVID-19 pandemic, as family entertainment became one of the main ways to relieve stress and dispel boredom during quarantine. Employees are a key asset for these companies, which ensures their market competition, and therefore the demand for entertainment services depends on the productivity and quality of their work to some extent. The purpose of this study is to determine the mediating effects of motivation in the relationship between discipline, competence, and employee performance. The number of samples used is 142 respondents from family entertainment employees in Jakarta, Indonesia. Data collection was carried out by distributing questionnaires using a 5-point Likert scale. The data of the survey were analyzed and interpreted with Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). This study finds non-significant positive associations between discipline and employee performance but a significant positive association between discipline and motivation. The result indicates that competence has a direct effect on motivation and employee performance. Meanwhile, motivation (as a mediator variable) has a partial and full mediating effect, in which discipline and competence are independent variables, and employee performance is a dependent variable. Findings from this study can be used to address productivity problems in family entertainment companies. It was revealed that companies can grow and develop through discipline and competence, which lead to increased employee performance.

This paper examined the impacts imparted by ethical leadership on both the performance and well-being of management accountants employed in public shareholding companies operating in Jordan. The mediating effect of psychological well-being was also examined. In testing the study hypotheses, analysis was performed on 93 obtained responses. The structural equation modeling (SEM) approach was used. From the outcomes, the ethical leadership level has significant impact on the psychological well-being of management accountants, while ethical leadership indirectly and significantly affects job performance, but only by way of psychological well-being. All these lend support to the mediating role of the psychological well-being of employees in the delineation of the link existing between ethical leadership and employee performance. Limitations and implications of the study are discussed. The directions of forthcoming studies are proposed as well.

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between volunteer management and volunteers’ intention to continue participating, based on the environmental psychology model. Moreover, this study investigated the mediating role of volunteers’ job satisfaction in this relationship. Using a sample drawn from volunteers of a cultural event in Singapore, this research conducted confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling analysis. The results showed a positive relationship between volunteer management and volunteers’ intention to continue volunteering, with a full mediating effect of job satisfaction on this relationship. Also, the highest attribution of positive management practices came from reward and recognition, followed by empowerment, schedule flexibility, orientation and training, and social interaction. The findings of this study provide a perspective on how volunteer management can position itself for volunteer retention.
