The rate of adoption of new information depends on reinforcement from multiple sources in a way that often cannot be described by simple contagion processes. In such cases, contagion is said to be complex. Complex contagion happens in the diffusion of human behaviours, innovations and knowledge. Based on that evidence, we propose a model that considers multiple, potentially asymmetric and competing contagion processes and analyse its respective population-wide dynamics, bringing together ideas from complex contagion, opinion dynamics, evolutionary game theory and language competition by shifting the focus from individuals to the properties of the diffusing processes. We show that our model spans a dynamical space in which the population exhibits patterns of consensus, dominance, and, importantly, different types of polarization, a more diverse dynamical environment that contrasts with single simple contagion processes. We show how these patterns emerge and how different population structures modify them through a natural development of spatial correlations: structured interactions increase the range of the dominance regime by reducing that of dynamic polarization, tight modular structures can generate structural polarization, depending on the interplay between fundamental properties of the processes and the modularity of the interaction network.

The problem of classification of the realisation of the stationary univariate Gaussian random field into one of two populations with different means and different factorised covariance matrices is considered. In such a case optimal classification rule in the sense of minimum probability of misclassification is associated with non-linear (quadratic) discriminant function. Unknown means and the covariance matrices of the feature vector components are estimated from spatially correlated training samples using the maximum likelihood approach and assuming spatial correlations to be known. Explicit formula of Bayes error rate and the first-order asymptotic expansion of the expected error rate associated with quadratic plug-in discriminant function are presented. A set of numerical calculations for the spherical spatial correlation function is performed and two different spatial sampling designs are compared.

The way of functional coordination of methods of organization adaptive data collection processes and methods of spatial self-organization of mobile agents by parallel execution of the corresponding data collection processes and the process of motion control of a mobile agent using the proposed protocol of their interaction and the algorithm of parallel execution planning is proposed. The method allows to speed up the calculations in the decision block of the mobile agent by an average of 40.6%.
