Bearing faults account for over 40% of induction motor faults, and for this reason, for several decades, much attention has been paid to their condition monitoring, through vibration measurements and, more recently, through electromagnetic signal analysis. Furthermore, in the last few years, research has been focused on evaluating deep learning algorithms for the automatic diagnosis of these faults. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a novel procedure to automatically diagnose different types of bearing faults and load anomalies by means of the stator current and the external stray flux measured on the induction motor in which the bearings are installed. All the data were collected by performing experimental tests in the laboratory. Then, these data were processed to obtain images (scalograms and spectrograms), which were elaborated by a pre-trained Deep Convolutional Neural Network, modified through the transfer learning technique. The results demonstrated the ability of the electromagnetic signals, and in particular of the stray flux, to detect bearing faults and mechanical anomalies, in agreement with the recent literature. Moreover, the Convolutional Neural Network has been proven to be able to automatically discriminate bearing defects and with respect to the healthy condition.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to achieve an accurate intelligent fault diagnosis of rolling bearing. Design/methodology/approach To extract deep features of the original vibration signal and improve the generalization ability and robustness of the fault diagnosis model, this paper proposes a fault diagnosis method of rolling bearing based on multiscale convolutional neural network (MCNN) and decision fusion. The original vibration signals are normalized and matrixed to form grayscale image samples. In addition, multiscale samples can be achieved by convoluting these samples with different convolution kernels. Subsequently, MCNN is constructed for fault diagnosis. The results of MCNN are put into a data fusion model to obtain comprehensive fault diagnosis results. Findings The bearing data sets with multiple multivariate time series are used to testify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The proposed model can achieve 99.8% accuracy of fault diagnosis. Based on MCNN and decision fusion, the accuracy can be improved by 0.7%–3.4% compared with other models. Originality/value The proposed model can extract deep general features of vibration signals by MCNN and obtained robust fault diagnosis results based on the decision fusion model. For a long time series of vibration signals with noise, the proposed model can still achieve accurate fault diagnosis.

As one of the important parts of modern mechanical equipment, the accurate real-time diagnosis of rolling bearing is particularly important. Traditional fault diagnosis methods have some disadvantages, such as low diagnostic accuracy and difficult fault feature extraction. In this paper, a method combining Wavelet transform (WT) and Deformable Convolutional Neural Network (D-CNN) is proposed to realize accurate real-time fault diagnosis of end-to-end rolling bearing. The vibration signal of rolling bearing is taken as the monitoring target. Firstly, the Orthogonal Matching Pursuit (OMP) algorithm is used to remove the harmonic signal and retain the impact signal and noise. Secondly, the time-frequency map of the signal is obtained by time-frequency transform using Wavelet analysis. Finally, the D-CNN is used for feature extraction and classification. The experimental results show that the accuracy of the method can reach 99.9% under various fault modes, and it can accurately identify the fault of rolling bearing.

Abstract Aiming at the typical non-stationary and nonlinear characteristics of rolling bearing vibration signals, a multi-scale convolutional neural network method for bearing fault diagnosis based on wavelet transform and one-dimensional convolutional neural network is proposed. First, the signal is decomposed into multi scale components with wavelet transform, and then each scale component is reconstructed. The reconstructed signal is subjected to the Fourier transform to obtain the frequency spectrum representation, which is used as the input of the one-dimensional convolutional neural network. Finally, one-dimensional convolution neural network is used to learn the features of the input data and recognize the bearing fault. The performance of the model is verified by using data sets of rolling bearing. The results show that this method can intelligent feature extraction and obtain 99.94% diagnostic accuracy.

Rolling bearings are widely used in industrial manufacturing, and ensuring their stable and effective fault detection is a core requirement in the manufacturing process. However, it is a great challenge to achieve a highly accurate rolling bearing fault diagnosis because of the severe imbalance and distribution differences in fault data due to weak early fault features and interference from environmental noise. An intelligent fault diagnosis strategy for rolling bearings based on grayscale image transformation, a generative adversative network, and a convolutional neural network was proposed to solve this problem. First, the original vibration signal is converted into a grayscale image. Then more training samples are generated using GANs to solve severe imbalance and distribution differences in fault data. Finally, the rolling bearing condition detection and fault identification are carried out by using SECNN. The availability of the method is substantiated by experiments on datasets with different data imbalance ratios. In addition, the superiority of this diagnosis strategy is verified by comparing it with other mainstream intelligent diagnosis techniques. The experimental result demonstrates that this strategy can reach more than 99.6% recognition accuracy even under substantial environmental noise interference or changing working conditions and has good stability in the presence of a severe imbalance in fault data.
