Two cadmium(II) coordination polymers, with thiocyanate and pyridine-based ligands e.g., 3-acetamidopyridine (3-Acpy) and niazid (nicotinic acid hydrazide, nia), namely one-dimensional {[Cd(SCN)2(3-Acpy)]}n (1) and two-dimensional {[Cd(SCN)2(nia)]}n (2), are prepared in the mixture of water and ethanol. The adjacent cadmium(II) ions in 1 are bridged by two N,S-thiocyanate ions and an N,O-bridging 3-Acpy molecule, forming infinite one-dimensional polymeric chains, which are assembled by the intermolecular N–H∙∙∙S hydrogen bonds in one direction and by the intermolecular S∙∙∙S chalcogen bonds in another direction. Within the coordination network of 2, the adjacent cadmium(II) ions are bridged by N,S-thiocyanate ions in one direction and by N,O,N’-chelating and bridging nia molecules in another direction. The coordination networks of 2 are assembled by the intermolecular N–H∙∙∙S and N–H∙∙∙N hydrogen bonds and S∙∙∙S chalcogen bonds. Being the only supramolecular interactions responsible for assembling the polymer chains of 1 in the particular direction, the chalcogen S∙∙∙S bonds are more significant in the structure of 1, whilst the chalcogen S∙∙∙S bonds which act in cooperation with the N–H∙∙∙S and N–H∙∙∙N hydrogen bonds are of less significance in the structure of 2.

The isotypic title one-dimensional coordination polymers, [CdCl2(C18H14N4O4)]n, (I), and [HgCl2(C18H14N4O4)]n, (II), are, respectively, the cadmium(II) and mercury(II) complexes of the dimethyl ester of 5,6-bis(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazine-2,3-dicarboxylic acid. In both compounds, the metal ions are located on a twofold rotation axis and a second such axis bisects the Car—Carbonds of the pyrazine ring. The metal ions are bridged by binding to the N atoms of the two pyridine rings and have anMN2Cl2bisphenoidal coordination geometry. The metal–Npyrazinedistances are much longer than the metal–Npyridinedistances; the difference is 0.389 (2) Å for the Cd—N bonds but only 0.286 (5) Å for the Hg—N bond lengths. In the crystals of both compounds, the polymer chains are linkedviapairs of C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds, forming corrugated slabs parallel to theacplane.

Two novel cadmium coordination polymers, [Cd(pydc)2(tu)]n (1) and [Cd2(SO4)(nic)2(tu)1.5 - (H2O)2]n (2) (pydc = pyridine-2,3-dicarboxylate, nic = nicotinate, tu = thiourea), have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis. 1 is a one-dimensional ladder coordination polymer in a two-dimensional network formed by hydrogen bonds. 2 consists of two kinds of Cd(II) centers in different coordination environments connected via nicotinate and sulfate to form a two-dimensional grid network integrated in a three-dimensional framework generated by hydrogen bonds. 2 shows intense fluorescent emission in the solid state at room temperature

The title compounds,catena-poly[[[bis[(R)-propane-1,2-diamine-κ2N,N′]copper(II)]-μ-cyanido-κ2N:C-[tris(cyanido-κC)(nitroso-κN)iron(III)]-μ-cyanido-κ2C:N] monohydrate], {[Cu(Lpn)2][Fe(CN)5(NO)]·H2O}n, (I), and poly[[hexa-μ-cyanido-κ12C:N-hexacyanido-κ6C-hexakis[(R)-propane-1,2-diamine-κ2N,N′]dichromium(III)tricopper(II)] pentahydrate], {[Cu(Lpn)2]3[Cr(CN)6]2·5H2O}n, (II) [where Lpn = (R)-propane-1,2-diamine, C3H10N2], are new chiral cyanide-bridged bimetallic coordination polymers. The asymmetric unit of compound (I) is composed of two independent cation–anion units of {[Cu(Lpn)2][Fe(CN)5)(NO)]} and two water molecules. The FeIIIatoms have distorted octahedral geometries, while the CuIIatoms can be considered to be pentacoordinate. In the crystal, however, the units align to form zigzag cyanide-bridged chains propagating along [101]. Hence, the CuIIatoms have distorted octahedral coordination spheres with extremely long semicoordination Cu—N(cyanido) bridging bonds. The chains are linked by O—H...N and N—H...N hydrogen bonds, forming two-dimensional networks parallel to (010), and the networks are linkedviaN—H...O and N—H...N hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional framework. Compound (II) is a two-dimensional cyanide-bridged coordination polymer. The asymmetric unit is composed of two chiral {[Cu(Lpn)2][Cr(CN)6]}−anions bridged by a chiral [Cu(Lpn)2]2+cation and five water molecules of crystallization. Both the CrIIIatoms and the central CuIIatom have distorted octahedral geometries. The coordination spheres of the outer CuIIatoms of the asymmetric unit can be considered to be pentacoordinate. In the crystal, these units are bridged by long semicoordination Cu—N(cyanide) bridging bonds forming a two-dimensional network, hence these CuIIatoms now have distorted octahedral geometries. The networks, which lie parallel to (10-1), are linkedviaO—H...O, O—H...N, N—H...O and N—H...N hydrogen bonds involving all five non-coordinating water molecules, the cyanide N atoms and the NH2groups of the Lpn ligands, forming a three-dimensional framework.

Two alkaline earth–tetrazole compounds, namelycatena-poly[[[triaquamagnesium(II)]-μ-5,5′-(azanediyl)ditetrazolato-κ3N1,N1′:N5] hemi{bis[μ-5,5′-(azanediyl)ditetrazolato-κ3N1,N1′:N2]bis[triaquamagnesium(II)]} monohydrate], {[Mg(C2HN9)(H2O)3][Mg2(C2HN9)2(H2O)6]0.5·H2O}n, (I), and bis[5-(pyrazin-2-yl)tetrazolate] hexaaquamagnesium(II), (C5H3N6)[Mg(H2O)6], (II), have been prepared under hydrothermal conditions. Compound (I) is a mixed dimer–polymer based on magnesium ion centres and can be regarded as the first example of a magnesium–tetrazolate polymer in the crystalline form. The structure shows a complex three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network that involves magnesium–tetrazolate dimers, solvent water molecules and one-dimensional magnesium–tetrazolate polymeric chains. The intrinsic cohesion in the polymer chains is ensured by N—H...N hydrogen bonds, which formR22(7) rings, thus reinforcing the propagation of the polymer chain along theaaxis. The crystal structure of magnesium tetrazole salt (II) reveals a mixed ribbon of hydrogen-bonded rings, of typesR22(7),R22(9) andR24(10), running along thecaxis, which are linked byR24(16) rings, generating a 4,8-cflunet.

Six ammonium carboxylate salts, namely cyclopentylammonium cinnamate, C5H12N+·C9H7O2−, (I), cyclohexylammonium cinnamate, C6H14N+·C9H7O2−, (II), cycloheptylammonium cinnamate form I, C7H16N+·C9H7O2−, (IIIa), and form II, (IIIb), cyclooctylammonium cinnamate, C8H18N+·C9H7O2−, (IV), and cyclododecylammonium cinnamate, C12H26N+·C9H7O2−, (V), are reported. Salts (II)–(V) all have a 1:1 ratio of cation to anion and feature three N+—H...O−hydrogen bonds forming one-dimensional hydrogen-bonded columns consisting of repeatingR43(10) rings, while salt (I) has a two-dimensional network made up of alternatingR44(12) andR68(20) rings. Salt (III) consists of two polymorphic forms, viz.form I havingZ′ = 1 and form II withZ′ = 2. The latter polymorph has disorder of the cycloheptane rings in the two cations, as well as whole-molecule disorder of one of the cinnamate anions. A similar, but ordered,Z′ = 2 structure is seen in salt (IV).

In the title compound, [Cu(C2N3)2(C12H10N6)]nor [Cu(dca)2(abpt)]n, where abpt is 4-amino-3,5-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole and dca is the dicyanamide anion, the CuIIcentre is five-coordinate with an approximately square-pyramidal geometry. One of the two dicyanamide ligands is a terminal ligand, but the other one acts as a μ1,5-bridging ligand between pairs of CuIIcentres, so generating a one-dimensional coordination polymer. A combination of N—H...N and C—H...N hydrogen bonds, augmented by π–π stacking interactions, links the coordination polymer chains into a bilayer structure. Comparisons are made with some related CuIIcomplexes containing dca ligands and heteroaromatic co-ligands.
