This case report aimed to demonstrate the prosthetic solution of an autism patient with self-injurious behavior using digital dentistry. A 24-year-old male visited our clinic with chief complaints of severe gingival recession associated with self-injurious behavior. Bilateral fixed prosthesis with denture flange were delivered using a digital workflow for the protection of the gingiva. The patient showed healed gingival tissue, behavioral modification, and acceptable oral hygiene during the follow-up period. Also, his caregivers reported no recurrence of the self-injurious behavior. Autism patients usually show self-injurious behavior, which can damage their oral tissue. With adoption of this prosthesis, behavior modification as well as healing of oral tissue was achieved.

Extensive gingival recession associated with cervical abrasions is common. Several different surgical and/or restorative therapies have been proposed to correct these lesions. This paper reports the treatment of multiple gingival recessions associated with shallow root caries. The procedure involved utilization of coronally advanced flap. At the postoperative follow-up visits, the success of the surgical approach was confirmed by the absence of tooth sensitivity and presence of gingival tissue with normal colour, texture and contour. After 12 months of follow-up, the clinical conditions were stable with satisfactory root coverage and periodontal health. An excellent aesthetical outcome was achieved and the patient was satisfied with the outcome. Abstract Background To evaluate a cross-shaped incision technique for thick-gingiva and thin-gingiva patients treated with implant-supported fixed prosthesis. Methods Total 55 patients receiving cross-shaped incision were assigned into thick-gingiva group (29 cases) and thin-gingiva group (26 cases). Follow-up was performed at 3 and 12-month after final restoration. Results Mesial and distal papilla height was significantly greater in thick-gingiva group than thin-gingiva group at 3 and 12 months, while periodontal depth and crestal marginal bone level around implant had no significant difference between the two groups during follow-up. No case of recession of buccal marginal gingiva was observed in thick-gingiva group. However, the recession of marginal gingiva of buccal aspect of the crown was found in 5 patients (19.2%) with thin-gingiva. Conclusions The cross-shaped incision may be applied to reconstruct gingival papillae and avoid the gingival recession in patients with thick-gingiva phenotype. This case report described a modified bilaminar technique for treating a single gingival recession. Patient presented a gingival recession in a maxillary canine. Tooth was in a buccally prominent position and soft keratinized tissue apical to the recession was reduced but still present. A split-full-split thickness trapezoidal flap was designed. Root’s surface was prepared with curettes. Epithelial-connective tissue graft was harvested from the palate with reduced dimension. After deepithelialization, the graft was placed with a fibrin-fibronectin system at the maximum root coverage level, and the flap coronally advanced and sutured. At 3-year follow-up control, the free gingival margin was still stable at the postsurgery position, with a thicker biotype corresponding to the grafted area, with no probing and a suitable aesthetic result.

Objective. This case report describes soft-tissue management after a failed GBR procedure to enhance the soft-tissue quality, quantity, and aesthetic outcomes. Case Presentation. A 38-year-old patient visited the Dental Clinic of the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico, University of Milan, Milan, Italy, for a chief complaint of unsatisfactory aesthetics of the anterior maxillary area. Dental history disclosed failed preimplant vertical bone augmentation with GBR procedure in the area of the left maxillary central incisor resulting in a severe gingival recession of adjacent teeth and compromised soft-tissue quantity and quality and severe ridge atrophy (class III). Multilayered connective tissue grafting technique, in a two-step mucogingival surgery, was used to cover the gingival recessions, reach even gingival margin, and reconstruct the defect. Frenectomy was done after the second mucogingival surgery to relieve the muscle attachment. A definitive cantilever bridge was placed to restore the left and right maxillary central incisors, and a satisfactory aesthetic outcome was reached. Conclusions. Multilayered connective tissue grafting technique might be successful in correcting soft-tissue quantity and quality in class III ridge defects.

Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) has demonstrated efficacy in the treatment of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). This case demonstrates the successful use of EMDR for the treatment of PTSD in a patient with Asperger’s disorder and examines potential pitfalls both in detecting and treating PTSD in patients with autism spectrum disorders. Our patient was a 21–year-old female with a diagnosis of Asperger’s disorder and multiple traumas stemming primarily from physical abuse at the hands of her peers in school. Treatment was provided in an accelerated format, being provided 3 days a week for approximately 3 weeks leaving at least 1 day in between sessions. After receiving 8 EMDR sessions, her scores improved on the Posttraumatic Checklist with effects maintained at 8-month follow-up.

Clinical Relevance Porcelain laminate veneer restorations of tetracycline-stained teeth had sufficient longevity in vivo. But, in long-term clinical cases, re-exposure of the discolored cervical tooth surface is inevitable due to the gingival recession of aging.

Gingival recession is the most common mucogingival defect. It is characterized by the exposure of the tooth root surface resulting from displacement of the gingival margin below the cementoenamel junction. The denuded root surfaces compromise dental and gingival aesthetics with dentine hypersensitivity, caries proclivity, cervical abrasion and oral hygiene disability. When deciding root coverage, settled surgical techniques have been proposed and each procedure challenges to expand on limitations of the others. The purpose of this case report is to assess the esthetic correction of localized gingival recession using combined coronally positioned flap with connective tissue graft techniques. Long term evaluation, extended to two years after surgical treatment, is performed. The part of the prophylactic management to prevent potential future recessions is also enhanced. Significant increasing in keratinized and attached gingival tissues and reduction of height and width of recession were obtained. Gain of root coverage was 100% with great improvement in attachment level. Prevention of recession was accomplished and the results were stable after two years follow up. Patient-reported outcomes were satisfaction and esthetic appearance.
