Statistical analysis and research on insect grooming behavior can find more effective methods for pest control. Traditional manual insect grooming behavior statistical methods are time-consuming, labor-intensive, and error-prone. Based on computer vision technology, this paper uses spatio-temporal context to extract video features, uses self-built Convolution Neural Network (CNN) to train the detection model, and proposes a simple and effective Bactrocera minax grooming behavior detection method, which automatically detects the grooming behaviors of the flies and analysis results by a computer program. Applying the method training detection model proposed in this paper, the videos of 22 adult flies with a total of 1320 min of grooming behavior were detected and analyzed, and the total detection accuracy was over 95%, the standard error of the accuracy of the behavior detection of each adult flies was less than 3%, and the difference was less than 15% when compared with the results of manual observation. The experimental results show that the method in this paper greatly reduces the time of manual observation and at the same time ensures the accuracy of insect behavior detection and analysis, which proposes a new informatization analysis method for the behavior statistics of Bactrocera minax and also provides a new idea for related insect behavior identification research.

As the in-depth exploration of oceans continues, the accurate and rapid detection of fish, bionics and other intelligent bodies in an underwater environment is more and more important for improving an underwater defense system. Because of the low accuracy and poor real-time performance of target detection in the complex underwater environment, we propose a target detection algorithm based on the improved SSD. We use the ResNet convolution neural network instead of the VGG convolution neural network of the SSD as the basic network for target detection. In the basic network, the depthwise-separated deformable convolution module proposed in this paper is used to extract the features of an underwater target so as to improve the target detection accuracy and speed in the complex underwater environment. It mainly fuses the depthwise separable convolution when the deformable convolution acquires the offset of a convolution core, thus reducing the number of parameters and achieving the purposes of increasing the speed of the convolution neural network and enhancing its robustness through sparse representation. The experimental results show that, compared with the SSD detection model that uses the ResNet convolution neural network as the basic network, the improved SSD detection model that uses the depthwise-separated deformable convolution module improves the accuracy of underwater target detection by 11 percentage points and reduces the detection time by 3 ms, thus validating the effectiveness of the algorithm proposed in the paper.

Computer-based technologies play a central role in the dentistry field, as they present many methods for diagnosing and detecting various diseases, such as periodontitis. The current study aimed to develop and evaluate the state-of-the-art object detection and recognition techniques and deep learning algorithms for the automatic detection of periodontal disease in orthodontic patients using intraoral images. In this study, a total of 134 intraoral images were divided into a training dataset (n = 107 [80%]) and a test dataset (n = 27 [20%]). Two Faster Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (R-CNN) models using ResNet-50 Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) were developed. The first model detects the teeth to locate the region of interest (ROI), while the second model detects gingival inflammation. The detection accuracy, precision, recall, and mean average precision (mAP) were calculated to verify the significance of the proposed model. The teeth detection model achieved an accuracy, precision, recall, and mAP of 100 %, 100%, 51.85%, and 100%, respectively. The inflammation detection model achieved an accuracy, precision, recall, and mAP of 77.12%, 88.02%, 41.75%, and 68.19%, respectively. This study proved the viability of deep learning models for the detection and diagnosis of gingivitis in intraoral images. Hence, this highlights its potential usability in the field of dentistry and aiding in reducing the severity of periodontal disease globally through preemptive non-invasive diagnosis.

Accurate assessment of the breast cancer deterioration degree plays a crucial role in making medical plan, and the important basis for degree assessment is the number of mitoses in a given area of the pathological image. We utilized deep multi-scale fused fully convolutional neural network (MFF-CNN) combing with conditional random felid (CRF) to detect mitoses in hematoxylin and eosin stained histology image. Analyze the characteristics of mitotic detection ----scale invariance and sparsity, as well as the difficulties ---- small amount of data , inconsistent image staining and sample class unbalanced. Based on this, mitotic detection model is designed. In this paper, a tissue-based staining equalization method is used, and to establish an effective training sample set, we select training samples by using CNN. A mitotic detection model fusing multi-level and multi-scale features and context information was designed, and the corresponding training strategy was made to reduce over-fitting. As preliminarily validated on the public 2014 ICPR MITOSIS data, our method achieves a better performance in term of detection accuracy than ever recorded for this dataset.

AbstractStomatal density is an important trait for breeding selection of drought tolerant oil palms; however, its measurement is extremely tedious. To accelerate this process, we developed an automated system. Leaf samples from 128 palms ranging from nursery (1 years old), juvenile (2–3 years old) and mature (> 10 years old) were collected to build an oil palm specific stomata detection model. Micrographs were split into tiles, then used to train a stomata object detection convolutional neural network model through transfer learning. The detection model was then tested on leaf samples acquired from three independent oil palm populations of young seedlings (A), juveniles (B) and productive adults (C). The detection accuracy, measured in precision and recall, was 98.00% and 99.50% for set A, 99.70% and 97.65% for set B, and 99.55% and 99.62% for set C, respectively. The detection model was cross-applied to another set of adult palms using stomata images taken with a different microscope and under different conditions (D), resulting in precision and recall accuracy of 99.72% and 96.88%, respectively. This indicates that the model built generalized well, in addition has high transferability. With the completion of this detection model, stomatal density measurement can be accelerated. This in turn will accelerate the breeding selection for drought tolerance.

Aiming at the problem that the number and decimal point of digital instruments in substations are prone to misdetection and missed detection, a method of digital meter readings in a substation based on connected domain analysis algorithm is proposed. This method uses Faster R-CNN (Faster Region Convolutional Neural Network) as a positioning network to localize the dial area, and after acquiring the partial image, it enhances the useful information of the digital area. YOLOv4 (You Only Look Once) convolutional neural network is used as the detector to detect the digital area. The purpose is to distinguish the numbers and obtain the digital area that may contain a decimal point or no decimal point at the tail. Combined with the connected domain analysis algorithm, the difference between the number of connected domain categories and the area ratio of the digital area is analyzed, and the judgment of the decimal point is realized. The method reduces the problem of mutual interference among categories when detecting YOLOv4. The experimental results show that the method improves the detection accuracy of the algorithm.
