Objective: The study aimed to investigate the structural and conformational changes induced by short-term administration of the amiodarone in the optic nerve besides validating whether vitamin E coadministration with amiodarone will improve these changes. Methods: Thirty New Zealand white rabbits from both sexes were haphazardly categorized into three groups, whereas each group contains ten rabbits (20 eyes). One of these groups served as a control that received an intraperitoneal injection of normal saline. Rabbits in the second group intraperitoneally (ip) injected daily with 160 mg/kg body weight (bw) of amiodarone for two weeks. The last group orally administration 100 mg/kg bw of vitamin E with the 160 mg/kg bw of amiodarone ip daily for two weeks until the time of sacrifice. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis was conducted on the optic nerve of the all groups. Results: The results obtained from the FTIR spectrum revealed that the short-term administration of amiodarone caused a significant alteration in the stretching NH-OH region. A newly detected component centered at 3739±1 cm-1 was assigned as strO-H. There was a significant decrease (p˂0.05) in the bandwidth and band position of one component of strO-H that centered at 3598±1 cm-1. Moreover, remaining vibrational bands (O-Hasym and O-Hsym) were shifted to higher frequencies. Coadministration of vitamin E with amiodarone reduced the contour to four components as a control with significant increase in the band position of O-Hasym and the bandwidth of one component of str O-H. Amiodarone administrations lead to reducing the area ratio of asymCH2 to symCH2 and elevation of the area ratio of asymCH2 to asymCH3 while the coadministration of vitamin E returned it as the control ratio. The percentage of the β-turn was significantly increased while the α-helix content was decreased due to amiodarone. The contents of both components were considered mimicking the control values when Vitamin E was co-administered with amiodarone. Conclusion: The study stated that amiodarone could change the solubility and folding of the optic nerve proteins. Finally, vitamin E intake with amiodarone turns many of these changes induced by amiodarone to normal levels, which make it a good supplement for amiodarone users.

Centrifugal pumps are the critical components in deep-sea mining. In order to investigate the particle motion in the curved channel of the impeller, three different types of curvature conform to blade profile to simplify the impeller design of pumps. A numerical study is conducted to investigate the flow field in a varying-curvature channel for solid-liquid two-phase flow. The flow of particles within the varying curvature channel is studied by combining the discrete element method (DEM) with computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and a comparison with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) test results. The results show that a polyhedral mesh with a small mesh number yields very accurate results, which makes it very suitable for CFD-DEM. Based on this method, the movement of a single particle is compared and analyzed, and the particle-motion law is obtained. The effects of the curvature ratio Cr and area ratio Ar on the motion law for a single particle are studied, and the simulation results are analyzed statistically. The results show that the effect of Cr on both the particle slip velocity and the turbulent kinetic energy only changes its strength, while the distribution law does not change significantly. Compared with the curvature ratio Cr, the area ratio Ar has a greater impact on the particles, and its distribution law becomes clearly different. As the area ratio Ar increases, the arc radius and length of the corresponding particle trajectory decrease.

abstract: In this paper, a computational code was developed to obtain M-N interaction curves for rectangular concrete-filled steel tube columns considering the strain compatibility in the cross-section. Considering the composite section subjected to uniaxial bending moments, expressions were developed to determine normal force, moment resistance, neutral axis depth and components resistance of cross-section. Such expressions were implemented in a computational tool developed to the authors and that allows to obtain the M-N pairs of strength. The steel and concrete ultimate strains were defined with the aid of the Brazilian standard for reinforced concrete structures ABNT NBR 6118. The obtained results were compared to simplified curves defined according to the theoretical models of ABNT NBR 8800, ABNT NBR 16239, EN 1994-1-1 and literature data. The proposed model showed good agreement with literature results and had good precision to estimate the ultimate moment values. To further understand the resistance of composite columns under uniaxial bending moments, parametric study was performed to evaluate the influence of the compressive strength of concrete, yielding strength of steel and steel area ratio on M-N interaction curves. The results indicate that the yielding strength of steel and the steel area ratio were the variables that most influenced the values of composite columns resistance (normal force and bending moment).

The failure of bit bearings is one of the main factors that restrict the life of a bit, and studies revealed that sealing and adhesive wear failure are common failure modes of bit bearings. To study the adaptability of the optimal textures to anti-wear and anti-friction performance of an 8 1/2” rock bit journal bearingunder sealing leakage conditions, the rheological properties of grease in the range of 0%–50% of the water-based drilling fluid volume in the compound lithium-based grease (rock bit grease) were tested. For the cylindrical dimples (diameter: 300 μm; depth: 40 μm, area ratio: 5%) and elliptical dimples (major and minor axis of 720 and 360 μm, respectively; depth: 40 μm, area ratio: 10%), the experimental study on the wear resistance of the optimized texture tribo-pairs was carried out as the grease invaded different drilling fluid contents based on the pin-disk pair. Results showed that the drilling fluid volume in the rock bit grease significantly affected the rheological properties of the grease. Furthermore, the cylindrical and elliptical dimples still had good anti-wear and anti-friction effects. Especially when the drilling fluid volume ratios in the grease reached 50%, the elliptical dimples can still reduce the friction coefficient and wear amount of the pair by 19.88% and 56.99%, respectively. With the increase of drilling fluid invasion into grease, the wear morphology of the un-textured tribo-pairs showed that the wear form changed from abrasive to adhesive wear, while that of the preferred textured tribo-pairs indicated slight abrasive wear.

An efficient visual detection method is explored in this study to address the low accuracy and efficiency of manual detection for irregular gear pitting. The results of gear pitting detection are enhanced by embedding two attention modules into Deeplabv3 + to obtain an improved segmentation model called attention Deeplabv3. The attention mechanism of the proposed model endows the latter with an enhanced ability for feature representation of small and irregular objects and effectively improves the segmentation performance of Deeplabv3. The segmentation ability of attention Deeplabv3+ is verified by comparing its performance with those of other typical segmentation networks using two public datasets, namely, Cityscapes and Voc2012. The proposed model is subsequently applied to segment gear pitting and tooth surfaces simultaneously, and the pitting area ratio is calculated. Experimental results show that attention Deeplabv3 has higher segmentation performance and measurement accuracy compared with the existing classical models under the same computing speed. Thus, the proposed model is suitable for measuring various gear pittings.

In order to guide the optimization design of the nozzle of the aircraft-fixed gas fire extinguishing system, we studied the influence of nozzle geometric parameters including outlet–inlet area ratio, length–diameter aspect ratio, and wall roughness on the distribution of pressure and velocity in the nozzle on the basis of CFD simulations. Although the structure of the nozzle is axisymmetric, the spatial distribution of the pressure and velocity during the flow and release of gas extinguishing agent is not completely symmetric. It was found that both of the outlet–inlet area ratio (δ) and the length–diameter aspect ratio (ξ) had a significant impact on the distribution characteristics of the pressure and axial velocity in the nozzle. With the increase of δ, the average pressure at the outlet cross-section of the nozzle decreased monotonically, while the average axial velocity at the outlet increased approximately linearly. When ξ≥2, the uniformity of the pressure and velocity distribution at the nozzle outlet was significantly improved. Moreover, with the increase of ξ, the average pressure and the average axial velocity of the outlet both showed a non-monotonic change trend, and the optimal value of ξ should be about 3.0. Compared with δ and ξ, the influence of the nozzle wall roughness (εN) on the flow and release characteristics of the extinguishing agent was weak. With the increase of εN, the average pressure of the nozzle outlet increased slightly, while the average axial velocity at the nozzle outlet decreased slightly.
