In order to understand the effects of the morphology and surface texture of flower stems in Smyrnium rotundifolium on the visiting frequency of generalist ants, we conducted experiments with Lasius niger ants running on dry wooden sticks mimicking different types of stems: (1) intact (grooved) sticks; (2) sticks painted with slaked (hydrated) lime (calcium carbonate coverage) imitating plant epicuticular wax coverage; (3) intact sticks with smooth polyester plate-shaped cuffs imitating upper leaves; and (4) intact sticks bearing cuffs painted with slaked lime. Ants were attracted by the sweet sugar syrup droplets placed on a stick tip, and the number of ants visiting the drops was counted. Our data showed significant differences in the visiting frequencies between the different types of stem-mimicking samples. The number of recorded ants progressively decreased in the following order of samples: intact sticks—painted sticks—sticks with intact cuffs—sticks with painted cuffs. These results clearly demonstrated that micro/nanoscopic surface coverages and macroscopic physical barriers, especially if combined, have a negative impact on the attractiveness of stems to ants. This study provides further evidence for the hypothesis that having a diversity of plant stems in the field, generalist ants prefer substrates where their locomotion is less hindered by obstacles and/or surface slipperiness.

In this paper, the desulphurization of coals prepared briquettes using lime based products (calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate) and sodium hydroxide as desulphurizing agents (DSA) was investigated in a vertically integrated experimental furnace. Meanwhile, the effect of sodium hydroxide on the denitrification was also studied. The results indicated that calcium carbonate as a DSA is more efficient for SO2 removal during the char combustion, whereas hydrated lime and NaOH are efficient in both char and volatile combustion. For most of the coals, the desulfurization efficiencies in case of lime hydrated reaches over 80 %, whereas desulfurization efficiencies is below 70% when calcium carbonate is used as DSA. It was also found that NaOH can be used as denitrifying agent as well as desulphurizing agent, and the maximum denitrifying efficiencies by using NaOH denitrifying agents for coal A and coal B are 59% and 54%, respectively.

The behavior of people who less consume vegetables and fruit can have a negative impact on health. The lack of appetite for vegetable consumption by the society made the researchers interested in making a combination of vegetables, namely carrots with local foods, namely Baroncong.This research aims to determine the acceptability of local baroncong snacks with the addition of carrots.This research is a pre-experimental study. The panelists from this study consisted of 30 Nutrition Department Students from Health Polytechnic Ministry of Health Makassar. Assessment based on taste aspects, color of aroma and texture of baroncong products with the addition of carrots 50%, 75%, 100% with the criteria of very like, like, dislike and very dislike.The results showed that the acceptability of baroncong with the addition of carrots in terms of taste was a concentration of 75%, which was very much as much as 46.7% and liked as much as 50%, the color aspect was 50% concentration consisting of 36.7% likes and likes as much as 53.3%, the aroma aspectis a concentration of 50% which consists of very much as much as 33.3% and likes as much as 63.3%, in terms of aspects of texture are concentrations of 50% and 75%, each of which consists of as much as 23.3% and likes as much as 63, 3%. Based on these data, Baroncong with the addition of carrots received is a concentration of 75%.

Misinformation often continues to influence people’s cognition even after corrected (the ‘continued influence effect of misinformation’, the CIEM). This study investigated the role of information relevance in the CIEM by questionnaire survey and experimental study. The results showed that information with higher relevance to the individuals had a larger CIEM, indicating a role of information relevance in the CIEM. Personal involvement might explain the effects of information relevance on the CIEM. This study provides insightful clues for reducing the CIEM in different types of misinformation and misinformation with varying relevance.

Wearing face masks in times of COVID-19 is one of the essential keystones for effectively decreasing the rate of new infections and thus for mitigating the negative consequences for individuals as well as for society. Acceptance of wearing masks is still low in many countries, making it extremely difficult to keep the pandemic at bay. In an experimental study, participants ( N = 88) had to assess how strange they felt when wearing a face mask while being exposed to displays of groups of varying numbers of mask wearers. Three different types of face masks were shown: simple homemade masks, FFP2 masks, and loop scarfs. The higher the frequency of people wearing masks in the displayed social group, the less strange the participants felt about themselves, an essential precondition for accepting wearing masks. This effect of a descriptive social norm was particularly effective when people saw others wearing less intrusive masks, here, simple homemade masks.
