In this paper, we report on a few exemplary tests of the applicability of analysis based on the interconfiguration fluctuation model (ICF) for a description of the temperature dependence of the thermoelectric power, S(T). The examples include a series of alloys: CeNi2(Si1−yGey)2, Ce(Ni1−xCux)2Si2, and the fluctuating valence (FV) compound CeNi4Ga. The two series develop from CeNi2Si2 being the FV system, where the f states occupation increases progressively with the Ge or Cu substitution. We find here that the ICF model parameters are of similar magnitude both for the analysis of the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and thermoelectric power. The ICF-type model appears to be a powerful tool for the analysis of S(T) dependences in Ce-based FV compounds and alloys.

The heat capacity of liquid 3He up to 2.5 K is calculated on the basis of a spin-fluctuation model in the context of the Landau theory of Fermi liquids. A good fit of the data is achieved by including the temperature dependence of the magnetic susceptibility and by using a different, smaller, quasi-particle mass. It is also shown that the magnetic susceptibility and the compressibility are analytic functions of the temperature.

The charge density wave instability in the quasi-two-dimensional conductor thallium purple molybdenum bronze TlMo 6 O 17 was carefully examined by studying the temperature dependence of resistivity, thermoelectric power (TEP) behavior and magnetic susceptibility. A metal-to-metal transition was confirmed near 110 K in TlMo 6 O 17 due to the partial opening of a gap at the Fermi surface and the driving of charge density wave.

We report the synthesis and superconducting temperature of the high-T c compounds Tl 2 Ca 2 Ba 2 Cu 3 O 10 and TlCa 3 BaCu 3 O 9. The transition to the superconducting state was measured by the magnetic susceptibility changes and by the temperature dependence of the electrical a.c. and d.c. resistivity and by thermoelectric power measurements. For Tl 2 Ca 2 Ba 2 Cu 3 O 10 a superconducting transition with zero resistance at 114.5K have been observed. Higher T c with zero resistance at 122K have been found in TlCa 3 BaCu 3 O 9.

A macroscopic noninteractive reliability model for ceramic matrix composites is presented. The model is multiaxial and applicable to composites that can be characterized as orthotropic. Tensorial invariant theory is used to create an integrity basis with invariants that correspond to physical mechanisms related to fracture. This integrity basis is then used to construct a failure function per unit volume (or area) of material. It is assumed that the overall strength of the composite is governed by weakest link theory. This leads to a Weibull-type model similar in nature to the principle of independent action (PIA) model for isotropic monolithic ceramics. An experimental program to obtain model parameters is briefly discussed. In addition, qualitative features of the model are illustrated by presenting reliability surfaces for various model parameters.

The durability of concrete structure has become an important field of civil engineering at home and abroad, and how to determine the environmental effects of typical durability of concrete structure key parameters become the key. Proposed by different domestic and foreign scholars to study durability parameters of concrete structure of different models, different models are different in the source, type, model parameters and applicable conditions. In this paper, some typical models are reviewed and analyzed from two major aspects of the durability of concrete, the deterioration of concrete and the steel corrosion.
