This paper reports a convenient sequential one-pot approach for the synthesis of an array of 14 pyrazolo[1,5-a][1,3,5]triazines, substituted in C8 by halogen (Br), various functions (CN and CO2Et) and alkyl or (het)aryl groups. This study confirms the interest of combining the efficient heating obtained under dielectric microwave heating and the achievement of sequential one-pot reactions, avoiding the tedious work-up and purification of intermediate compounds, achieving sustainable synthesis processes. Considering usual conventional methods, this microwave protocol is featured by advantages in terms of yields, reaction times, and convenient gram scale synthesis.

A simple and efficient synthetic method towards α-substituted acrylic esters has been developed using the Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons (HWE) reaction with HCHO after alkylation of phosphonoacetates in a one-pot reaction. This method allows the smooth introduction of various side-chains, such as natural amino acids and other biologically relevant substituents. The use of mild conditions, inexpensive reagents, short reaction times and simple work-up and purification steps provides an effective and general alternative to cumbersome multistep and low-yielding procedures described to date.

An efficient one-pot synthesis of N 2-(tetrazol-5-yl)-6-aryl/heteroaryl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine derivatives was developed by reacting 5-amino-1,2,3,4-tetrazole with aromatic aldehydes and cyanamide in pyridine under controlled microwave heating with high yields. X-ray crystallography confirmed the structure of the obtained products.

Lanthanum chloride was found to be an effective catalyst for the facile and one-pot synthesis of polysubstituted imidazoles under solvent free condition in excellent yields. This method elucidates urea/thiourea, as an environmentally benign source of ammonia for the synthesis of polysubstituted imidazoles. The work-up procedure is very simple and the products don’t require further purification.

A highly efficient one-pot, two-step microwave-assisted procedure was applied for the rapid and green synthesis of benzo[a]phenazine annulated heterocyclic ring systems from the three- or four-component condensation reactions of 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1,4-dione, o-phenylenediamine, aromatic aldehydes and 1,3-indandione using L-proline as a bifunctional organocatalyst in water. This new procedure has a number of advantages such as high yields, very short reaction times, operational simplicity, simple work-up procedures and avoidance of hazardous or toxic catalysts and organic solvents. Moreover, the catalyst can be recovered and reused several times without much loss of its performance.
