From the social exchange theory, this study examines the relationship between psychological contract breach, organizational cynicism, and union commitment, as well as the interaction effect of perceived union dual identity on the relationship between organizational cynicism and union commitment. We argue that contract breach has a positive impact on union commitment, and this relationship is mediated by organizational cynicism. Moreover, we suggest that the perceived union dual identity moderates the relationship between the two. To examine this, we sampled 371 employees of Chinese non-state-owned firms in 2019. The results show that, in the Chinese context, the psychological contract breach has a positive impact on organizational cynicism and union commitment. This relationship is weaker when the perceived union identity (state-oriented) is higher; it is stronger when the perceived union identity (labor-oriented) is higher.

BACKGROUND: Given the importance of the roles of psychological contract and voice in organizational life, this study highlights the effect of contract breach on managers and their voice directed at top management members, key representatives of the organization. OBJECTIVE: Drawing on social exchange theory, this study examines the relationship between a psychological contract breach (PCB) and concurrent organizational cynicism resulting in a considerate and aggressive managerial voice behavior. METHODS: Data came from an online survey on PCB and subsequent behaviors from a sample of 336 in-company European and Asian employees with managerial responsibilities working in France. RESULTS: The results provide partial support for the hypothesized relationships and show the consequences of the bi-dimensionality of aggressive voice behavior (fight and negativity). Moreover, organizational cynicism mediates the relationship between PCB and the negativity dimension of aggressive voice. However, data analysis shows no support for organizational cynicism’s mediating role in the relationship between PCB and considerate voice. CONCLUSIONS: The study results of 336 in-company European and Asian employees having a managerial position, like project managers, middle managers, executives, employs a great insight into managerial voice behavior. This study contributes to the limited research conducted on the managerial voice in response to PCB. The findings have important implications for employers to understand managers’ psychological contracts and related voice behavior.

PurposeThis study finds out if a satisfied physician will show citizenship behaviour (OCB) in a work environment where psychological contract breach (PCB) exist.Design/methodology/approachQuantitative data from 214 physicians across 26 health-care units were analysed. Research philosophy was positivism, research design was explanatory and study design was cross-sectional. Preliminary tests were conducted. Reflective measurement and structural models were examined. PLS algorithm tool and bootstrapping procedure were utilised. Control variables were sex, age, employment type and tenure. A significant level was set at 5%. Smart PLS 2.0M.3 software was employed.FindingsThe scientist found support for a significant moderating effect of PCB on the nexus between job satisfaction (JST) and OCB, such that PCB demoralised a satisfied physician in showing OCB. In contrast, a fulfilled psychological contract motivated satisfied physicians to exhibit OCB.Practical implicationsPCB, if not addressed, may lead satisfied physicians to show low OCB, which has devastating effects for health-care organisations and their patients. Creating balanced, fulfilled and harmonious relationship within physicians will transform the workplace into a more meaningful and purposeful atmosphere.Originality/valueThis study offers empirical health-care literature on the moderating effect of PCB, a psychosocial stressor, on the direct relationship between JST and OCB, integrating and lengthening the social exchange theory, resource-based theory and activation theory.

Abstract This article looks at the relationship between psychological contract breach and voluntary turnover among newcomers, using supervisor trustworthiness as a mediator and negative affectivity as a moderator. Relying on data from 243 newcomers, psychological contract breach was found to be negatively related to the three dimensions of supervisor trustworthiness, i.e., ability, benevolence, and integrity. Supervisor integrity further mediated a positive relationship between psychological contract breach and voluntary turnover measured 8 months later. Psychological contract breach interacted with negative affectivity such that it was less negatively related to dimensions of supervisor trustworthiness at high levels of negative affectivity. The indirect relationship of psychological contract breach to voluntary turnover as mediated by supervisor integrity was also weaker at high levels of negative affectivity. We discuss the implications of these findings for research and practice.

This study examined that the role of dispositional affectivity in the relationship between psychological contract breach and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). Based on data from 318 employees, we found that when the levels of promised and delivered inducements of psychological contract breach are equal, employees’ OCB increases the absolute levels of two types of inducements increase. Furthermore, we found that dispositional affectivity moderated the relationship between psychological contract breach and OCB. While positive affectivity strengthened the relationship between the delivered inducements of breach and OCB, negative affectivity moderated the relationship between the promised inducements of breach and OCB. These results contribute the psychological contract literature and employment relationship. Implications are discussed and directions for future research are provided.

Psychological contract Breach (PCB) play a crucial role to shape employee reactions (ERs) Therefore; this study investigated the possessions of Psychological contract Breach on employee’s reactions (organizational behavior regarding citizenship, job satisfaction) under the moderation of organizational trust. Data were collected from 340 employees of the Health sector by using the technique of simple random sampling. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) technique has been used to check the validity of the data while structure equation modeling (SEM) technique has been used for test the relationship between variables. Our findings revealed that psychological contract breach had negative and significant relationships with employees’ reactions (organizational citizenship behavior, job satisfaction). Further, organizational trust is also significantly moderated on the relationship between PCB and employees’ reactions (organizational behavior regarding citizenship, job satisfaction).
